The Bridal Arrangement

HIS VIRGIN BRIDE

Lee Savage thundered into Montana to claim what was his -- Shiloh Ranch and a virgin bride. As a young man he'd watched Ellie Shiloh come into this world, and now Lee's promise to protect the naive young beauty bound them forever. Ellie's feelings for him glittered in her sensuous, admiring eyes, but for Lee, matrimony did not mean love. Still, their marriage bed was not off-limits, for Ellie was eager for her first taste of ecstasy. Despite their perfect harmony in the bedroom, this bridegroom would never confess to needing his wife! The stirring in his soul, that tornado of emotion, was merely duty -- or could it be love?

The only thing Cindy had in mind when she started writing her first book was finishing it. The issue of actually selling it came much later. Only after she made that life-altering first sale did she realize that one book would never be enough. Now, over 20 books and numerous awards later, Cindy laughingly admits that she can barely remember life before...well, was there life before writing?

Actually, yes there was, and still is. A professional career woman, Cindy is a trainer for the Iowa Department of Human Services, a position she states is both challenging and rewarding. "Human Services is a front-line, real-life event. Everything about the job is immediate, from serving families in crisis, to assisting staff with difficult situations, to meeting tension-fraught deadlines."

Cindy's career has taught her much about the human condition, its frailties, its strengths, and its spirit. The evocative emotions that pour from the pages of her books are a reflection of some of her work experiences. Her writing celebrates life's richness and trials, offering a wide range of emotions — hope and elation, anger and indecision, laughter and, of course, love. And, according to her readers, her powerful love scenes run the gamut from steamy to tender to lusty to just plain fun.

Cindy's writing has netted her spots on bestseller lists, numerous RT nominations and awards, the Colorado Romance Writers Award of Excellence, a National Reader's Choice Award and two RITA nominations.

Between writing and working full time you wouldn't think Cindy would have much time for anything else. And while she does find her work and her writing rewarding, there does have to be more. Cindy has more. Much more. She is happily married to the perfect man. Tom's a cowboy, ladies!

Yes, even Iowa has its share of that saddle-straddling, Wrangler-wearing species who love their horses almost as much as they love their women. As a matter of fact, recently a whole herd of Texans gathered at the Gerard "Ranch" to treat their little ones to real horseback rides. Go figure.

Cindy has a passion for pink depression glass — she always has her eye out for the special piece to add to her collection. Cindy's down time often takes the form of the classic "busman's holiday." She loves to read and most of all, she loves to read at their summer place, a cabin in the woods on Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota.

Both Tom and Cindy enjoy gardening and have recently expanded their annual beds into a perennial garden. Cindy says she can hardly wait for spring and the promise of all that reawakening and the colorful blooms.

In addition to the horses, the Gerards have two dogs, Ellie and Boomer, who pretty much get anything they want. Tom and Cindy have one son, Kyle, who, after years of keeping them in suspense, found Eileen, the perfect woman.

Um nothing happened in this book except rainbows and unicorns flew out of the heroine's b**t. I about gagged on the sugar overload in this book.

Gonna stick to current Cindy Gerard offerings which I love.

This book was decent though at the beginning I felt the hero and heroine had an un-equal relationship at least in the mind of the hero who had been taken in by her parents when he was a ten year old boy, who had been abused and left on the streets, so when the only people in life who had loved him passed away, he kept his promise and left his job to take over the ranch and their nineteen year old daughter Ellie, by marrying her.

The heroine is someone who has been sheltered all her life mainly because she is epileptic and her older parents were over-protective, even when she tried to make friend, people humiliated her so she just stopped trying. Ellie feels ashamed of her condition, out of control and she loves Lee, always has and is happy to be his wife though she knows he looks on her as burden, but she is determined to take care of him as well.

Though the hero wants her, he is sure of the fact that he is not capable of love and doesn't know much of her condition so he restrains herself but the heroine won't stand around for that. For most of the book I got frustrated with these two, they had lots of insecurities which they never voice but once the hero learnt the extent of her condition and their marriage began, he knew he loved her and helped her broaden her horizons and I actually found it quite funny that he then started feeling as if he had cheated her since she was so young.

Decent book.

Shiloh Çiftliği-Cindy Gerard

There's so much wrong and unbelievable in this book.

- The age difference and difference in life experience is scary. He's a rancher wary with life and people, she's an over sheltered 19 year old virgin.

- They are more or less step-brother and sister, which is always a little yucky in my eyes.

- It's an arranged marriage, and Lee feels obliged to marry her, but I felt his reasoning didn't feel contemporary. Even when the book still was contemporary.

- There's a sugar overload in this book. Both are very sweet people, the main conflict is that they think they aren't good enough for the other, and everything else is made of sugar (or as Jacqueline puts it, rainbows and unicorns).

- The heroine is over, over, over protected and over sheltered thanks to her epilepsy. It's like everyone in her world believes she can do absolutely nothing, and she believes it herself. This treatment seems so crazy old-fashioned to me.

But I still like it. I think it's the whole unrequited love thing, the pining and the denieing oneself for the better of the other person. I used to reread it often, and always closed the book with the Romance Novel Happy Sigh.

Amei, amei, amei...

você faz a vida do outro melhor...

Maravilhoso!!!

ADORO!!!

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Lee came to the Shiloh Ranch as a foster child and stayed. When he was 15, his foster mother got pregnant with a miracle child, Ellie. Until Lee went off to college, he and Ellie were brother and sister. Ellie's just turned 20, her mother passed away a few years ago, and recently her father. Lee's come back to the ranch to fulfill a promise he made to his step-father, to always look after Ellie and to make the rundown ranch something again. Lee's come home to marry Ellie, something Ellie has dreamed of for years. And Lee wants very much for the marriage to work but he's scared to death because Ellie has epilepsy and he's not sure how to be her husband.

This was a charming story. I'm not sure if this is my first from Ms.Gerard, but I'm sure it won't be my last! Ellie's spirit is as bright as the sun in the sky and she dazzles Lee with her country good sense and how lovely she is. Lee is petrified that he's rushed her into a marriage she's not ready for. This was an exceptional read. Ms Gerard dealt very well with Ellie's illness and raised real concerns for Lee. This was one of those feel good stories that you can reach for again and again.
