**'Telling a really good and successful story must be precise and have an enlightening plotline..

Stirring read!
Vivid, deeply moving and immersed in a first person point of view setting, 'SUGAR GIRL' tells the tale of this sweet unflinching intimate love story from the sculpted villages and streets of Dublin to the busy streets of Australia -- from falling in love to heartbreak to taking that leap of faith for Love. The storyline is also finely-tuned even a bit fickle yet still reads like an intellectually emotionally charged visual narrative.
Given the title and synopsis, readers should have an open mind and not think that it's about eroticism or something close to this, instead the storytelling is crafted in this surrealistic style of a developing romance between two ladies; one rich the other a call girl or sugar girl.
For every chapter the story kept on unfolding revealing more and more about each of them (Ciara & Charlie) along with the varying secondary characters, each with their own side story --- this is also where I think the pace is left up to the readers because Ms.Geown laid out the intricacies
of the how & why at their first run-in, their attraction was so telling. For every interaction there was this sexually charged energy between them that nothing else mattered. Because of wanting to be with Charlie, Ciara did try setting herself free from many of her inhibitions then tried discovering whatever inner confidence needed to put her other life aside for love but..
Overall, 'SUGAR GIRL' is utterly endearing to read with reverberating resonance of the Truth.
A highly recommended book!

I read Emma McGeown’s first book Aurora when it came out a couple of years ago and loved it. Her second is a dramatically different storyline and I loved it just as much. I love when authors are able to write such varied work instead of falling into a formula where the characters feel like repeats. Charlie and Ciara had great chemistry together and I really liked them as a couple. The story is told from Ciara’s perspective so we don’t get as much interaction with just Charlie but it kept me rooting for Ciara. All the side characters were entertaining as well, and each added their own twist to the story. There was one twist I genuinely didn’t see coming and I loved being surprised at the last minute. I thought this was a great book and look forward to reading it again at some point along with Aurora.

Emma McGeown came out of nowhere last year and bowled me over with her debut Aurora. I absolutely never read blurbs, so I was slightly surprised by the "sugaring" storyline. What could have been a throwaway fluff book actually has a lot of depth and angst. Learning about Ciara's backstory was heartbreaking and explains why she has unapologetically made the career choices that may seem questionable. It feels like an age gap romance, although Charlie is only a couple of years older than Ciara, because Charlie is farther along in her career. I enjoy a rich/poor storyline, and this is handled very appropriately.

Emma McGeown is officially on my list of do-not-miss authors.

The first book I've read by Emma L McGeown and it certainly won't be my last. I think this author will be one to watch out for in future books.

Sugar Girl was brilliant. I really did enjoy this page-turner book which develops into a sweet romance.

I've given Emma L McGeown a 4 out of 5.

• Sugar Girl
• Emma L. McGeown
• MC Charlie Keller & Ciara Reilly

Ciara is barista by day, platinum sugar girl by night. Trying to help her family out of debt, Ciara becomes a sugar girl. She has a contract, clients and a list of boundaries. She is no ordinary sugar girl. helping her family pay off debt. She had worked up to a platinum status sugar girl. She works at Jerichos coffee shop with her good friend Tracy. (Also a sugar girl)

Tracey asked Ciara to a double dinner date with one of her
clients and his friend Darren. During the dinner another friend of Darren’s shows up, Charlie. Ciara was uncomfortable from the beginning of the date. Tracy didn’t tell her everything that was surrounding this date.

Charlie is rich and beautiful. She’s very confident. She is an investor. Ciara was taken with her from the very beginning.

Charlie invited Ciara and Tracey to a house party at her
home. Ciara did not want to attend the party, because at this point, Charlie is unaware that she’s sugar girl. Tracy convinces her to go to the party. Let the drama begin. There are many surprises that come out.

I don’t want to give away anymore, so check this book out! It’s a great read.

I wanted to make note of the story line with Ciara and her sister Sophie. Very touching. Her dad was dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and they were trying their best to care for him. The supporting characters in the story definitely help keep it interesting!

If you have followed me for any length of time, you know I have a soft spot for the escort trope so I was hoping to like this one. After reading the sample, I was all in and pretty much devoured this book in one long sitting. This is about a website were people can contract to be sugar girls for sugar daddies. Could be kinda ick, but the author manages to side step it. The MCs are not perfect and especially Ciara's life is kinda a mess. You really feel for her family situation. All her money is goig to help take care of her family, so she is not living the high life. The one part that just tugged on my heart the whole time was the lie between them, but it was a low tension and added to the enjoyment for me instead of turning me off, which surprised me because usually I do not enjoy that plot device. Because of the lie you know what the blow up is gonna but but I loved the grand gesture resolution. I wish we got a bit more out of the epilogue. All in all - really enjoyed it.

I really liked the sex work premise to this story, as well as the way it's discussed in the novel. Sugar Girl focuses around Ciara and Charlie's romance. Ciara is a 'sugar girl', typically working with men. The topic is so unique within lesfic, and a big hats off to the author for tackling this subject. I liked learning more about this type of work, and Ciara's character was intriguing. She felt like a well-rounded character.

Unfortunately, the romance between Charlie and Ciara didn't work for me. I think this is due to their initial dates, which felt awkward and not very collegial to develop feelings for each other. There were moments where it felt like they both didn't really like each other, or were clearly pulling away. It was hard to then root for them as a couple.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable read. I wondered how McGeown was going to handle Ciara's reveal... I was shocked with Charlie's own reveal, so that was exciting.

Also, I love that whenever Charlie's mam spoke, I heard my mum's cute Filipino accent in my head. I was definitely diggin' Charlie's Filipino roots.

I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Ciara Reilly and her roommate Tracey are top tier Sugars (escorts) in Dublin. She’s been doing it for a while to help cover medical bills for her family. The work is done through an app, is consensual and specifically contracted for safety and security. Through Tracey she meets Charlie Keller a driven, bi-racial entrepreneur. This is almost like a reimagined story of Pretty Woman, although Charlie is never her client. The connection between the two is palpable. Yes it is instant attraction, but in a short three weeks both meet each others families and share quite a bit in the flow of conversation.

All but one chapter is from Ciara’s POV. And It is interesting to see her categorizing peoples moves and actions. I’m think part of this works for me because Ciara is never intimate with anyone besides Ciara during the story. And I had real feelings and related to dealing with a parent with memory issues. I don’t usually love wealthy/poor tropes because of power differences but I was left optimistic for their future together. Ciara is a 20 something "sugar girl" making money on the side to help eliminate her family's debt. Ciara meets and falls in love with Charlie, but how can she tell him about her saucy side? How will she pick between making money to help her family, and following her heart for love?

This was a good read with well thought out and developed characters.

Read if you love: diverse backgrounds, 20-somethings, quick read

Amazing!!!

Ciara joined the Sugar Girl app at the same time as her best friend Tracey. Now with Platinum status she has her pick from exclusive and wealthy clients, which is helping pay for much needed care of her father, who is being cared for by her sister. When she accidentally meets Charlie, an entrepreneur, who just happens to a good friend of one of Tracey’s latest clients, Ciara finds herself tangled in falling for Charlie and not being able to tell her about her Sugar Girl career, which leaves Ciara with a difficult decision to make, Charlie or Sugar Girl?

I loved this so much! It was exciting and fun, a little bit daring, and deeply heartfelt and emotional. There was so much packed into the story that I was hooked from the very first chapter and couldn’t wait to join Ciara on this emotional adventure. It went through everything from the completely outrageous and glamourous to the down to earth reality that is usually hidden away behind the scenes when a story focuses on someone like Charlie and someone with a job like Ciara’s at Sugar Girl.

There were so many moments where I just felt for Ciara, a few where my heart broke, and a few others where I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Charlie was going to discover what Ciara was trying to hide before she had a chance to tell her. There were also so many unexpected moments, they just hit and I was never ready for any of them. Some were amazing, like something out of a movie, and again others just broke my heart.

Charlie and Ciara’s story was certainly one filled with angst and drama, it was completely emotional and so moving. I fell in love with them the moment they were introduced to each other and I really hope we see more of them in future stories. This was the first story I read by Emma L McGeown and it certainly won’t be the last, I was completely blown away! I can’t do this story justice with a review, it really is one you just have to read and experience for yourself!

‘’Sugar Girl’ was my first read by Emma L. McGeown and honestly I was hooked after the first chapter! She writes brilliantly modern and layered characters that I couldn’t help but to become invested in almost straight away.
The premise of the book starts with Ciara, who is a successful ‘Sugar Girl’, having risen to the highest level she manages her own clients and has built up a highly regarded position within the business. What all started when she was a student looking to support her family through some tough times, has ended up being a long term career for Ciara. I love the way Ciara has a very strong sense of where she begins and her sugar girl persona ends; she keeps so much inside of herself when it comes to her family and her personal heartaches.
I also love how McGeown sets it up that Charlie Keller appears in her life when Ciara is just being herself, displaying all the qualities of a typical client trying to charm Ciara. But there’s more to both women and even though they live in entirely different worlds they are far more similar than they could imagine.
Ciara and Charlie have work personas; they don’t show vulnerabilities because they understand them to be weaknesses. They have both been hurt before and the last thing they ever expected was to meet someone they have such an instant connection with. The way in which both characters have these flaws that at times make them awkward and sometimes mean made me love them so much more. I loved the setting, I loved the banter between characters. And most of all I really loved the sincerity in the way the two MCs work as independent women who choose to want more for their lives.

This was such a good read, it is so much more than a simple Sugar Girl/baby story but a real heartfelt romance between two strong women. Totally surprised me how much I would like this book and would definitely recommend for an easy, quick, heartwarming (and a little spicy) read.

This book surprised me in a good way. 1st person POV isn’t always my favorite but it worked here. I was drawn into Ciara’s world and the chemistry and plot kept me going through the end. At times some things were repetitive and Ciara bordered on immature, but just when Ciara was about to lose credibility, McGeown roped her back in and elevated her character. I liked the complexity of Ciara’s feelings about being a sugar girl while also navigating actually dating someone, and her reasons for joining the business and sticking with it. The book had more depth than I expected given the blurb. I also liked Charlie. There were a couple things that didn’t fully pan out, like why Charlie was painted as a player, but overall she seemed like someone I’d want to know. I also liked the way the author handled the rising tension between the women and the aftermath. It seemed plausible and reasonable considering both characters’ realities and motivations, and more nuanced than some others I’ve read. I liked it!

Short Summary: Ciara is a Sugar Girl/barista struggling to make ends meet when she unexpectedly meets gorgeous, wealthy Charlie. Neither is looking for anything serious but they can’t help that they click. Will they fit in each other’s worlds? Can they trust each other or will their secrets prove insurmountable?

Solid 4. Refreshing read that I finished in a couple of hours. Was not the typical sugar baby story. Both MCs had more depth than a rich girl/poor girl troupe. The switching of the POV was strange for one chapter at the end of the story but, other than that it read nicely.

Ciara is a barista in Dublin, but needing to meet her family’s financial obligations runs a side hustle as an escort on an app called “Sugar Girl”. Everything is great until she meets Charlie and suddenly the side hustle is now increasingly losing its appeal not to mention the fact that she’s been lying to Charlie this whole time.

This book turned out to be a surprising read. Given the premise, I think I made some foregone conclusions about the plot line. The first half of the book was good about backgrounding and setting up who Ciara and Charlie were. I also appreciated the fact that it wasn’t lust at first sight given Ciara’s occupation as an escort, but actually took the time to build it into a slow burn as they learn more about each other. I think both MCs had great chemistry which made the angst portion engaging.

Given their entire relationship was built on a lie, I knew the “break” was around the corner and I think it added a good tension to the story and kept me reading. I think the nice twist with Charlie made this plot a little atypical from a reactions and next stage perspective and was definitely a plus point in making this a unique story.

Minor irritants through the story happened to be around the use of the word “Sugaring” as a verb, it was a little cheesy cringey to be honest and kept popping me out of the narrative.

Overall, this story bellied my expectations of the plot line given the premise and delivered a fun read. 3.75🌟s

Ciara Reilly hasn't had much luck in relationships or love, so in order to supplement her income and be able to help her family; Ciara turns her good looks and youth into being one of the top sugar girls in Dublin. This means she has access to the elite wealthy clientele of Dublin. Expensive gifts and dinners coupled with the casual dating suits her just fine. But this all changes when she meets Charlie Keller, a beautiful entrepreneur who has no idea Ciara is a sugar girl. After an instant connection would Ciara's feelings for Charlie be enough to leave her side job? Or will the secrets leave her with a broken heart again?

This book is in first person, which I was not expecting but I actually enjoyed. I really like how you get to know Ciara in the first chapters. You get a sense of how down to earth and real she is. How her family is everything to her. I really liked that. Also, I really enjoyed how her relationship with Charlie starts and evolves. The chemistry was great and I kept you wanting more. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

There is nothing I love more than a millionaire romances. Charlie and Ciara's relationship develops intensely from the first moment they meet (while Ciara is on a double date with someone else). From there it's a whirlwind of a relationship that happens in the span of weeks, but the whole time Ciara is harboring a secret.

I loved this book overall. From start to finish it kept me entertained as Ciara is a sarcastic and witty main character and Charlie as the love interest gave as much as she received. I really enjoyed all of the background WLW characters as much as the main two characters as well. I think that overall they added to the story and helped our main two along with figuring out their feelings.

My only negative takeaways are that Darren needed more retribution for his actions in the end (I don't think he got nearly what he deserved). But overall I think that the plot and the flow of the story moved along quite well.

So I have read one of her past works and it was OK..I scored over 3. I was expecting maybe the same on a light fluffy read. Wow was I wrong. This was so well written and flushed out and so much more. Great characters and great story and a nice change off on point of view for only one chapter that was a winner. Pick this book up. I will look for more from this author and she could end up being a go to if she does more as good as this. 4 plus

Well this was a star of a book - i went in with no expectations and it was such a fantastic read.
Here we follow Ciara who works in a local coffee shop but has been sugaring on the side to help pay for her fathers medical bills. That is until she meets Charlie and she starts to think that maybe sugaring isn't all it's cracked up to be . . .
I absolutely loved this romance. It was clear from the start that there was chemistry between Ciara and Charlie and they were a great couple. It was obvious from the get go what the massive issue was going to be between the two of them but it definitely didn't detract from the story and I loved being able to see the build up to the inevitable consequences. I also really enjoyed the involvement of Ciara's family and getting to learn more about them and their inclusion in the story.
There was a lot on going on at some points in the story but I didn't feel like it was all overwhelming and I enjoyed the additions to the story that they brought. I would 100% recommend this if you're looking for an LGBTQIA+ romance booK!

Summary:
Ciara is a woman in her late 20s who works at a local coffee joint to make a living and shares a one-bedroom apartment with her best friend. Aisling, on the other hand, is a Sugar Girl on an app that connects Sugar Daddies and Sugar girls. The two differing personalities are the SAME person.

Ciara, aka Aisling, becomes one of Dublin’s most successful Sugar Girls and is ranked as a “Platinum” member. She enjoys “sugaring” and has no plans to end this line of work because it pays for her father’s in-home care. Then, she meets the very beautiful and very intriguing Charlie. The two hit it off instantly, but… Charlie has no idea what Ciara does to earn an income.

Ciara is faced with a difficult situation - give up her Sugar Girl income to be with Charlie or break things off before it gets too serious. Little does Ciara know, Charlie has been keeping something from her as well.

Review:
I will start off by saying that I never opt for a romance novel of any kind. However, when I read Sugar Girl’s description, I knew I couldn’t resist!

Almost the entire novel is written from Ciara’s perspective, except for one chapter towards the end from Charlie’s point-of-view. I completely resonated with Ciara from the start and it made reading Sugar Girl even more enjoyable for me. I will say that I feel Ciara was a bit dramatic at times which can be a turn-off in a character, but it definitely didn’t keep me from wanting to finish.

One reason I typically don’t go for romance is because they can often be a bit cheesy. Sugar Girl was NOT. I could imagine the entire book as if it were happening in front of me and I didn’t feel any sort of secondhand embarrassment, which was incredibly refreshing.

I started reading around 7pm on a Friday night and read for a few hours. Then, picked it up again Saturday afternoon and finished it rather quickly. Some paragraphs were a little bit more wordy than I'd prefer but I was never bored while reading. And that is very important - life is too short to read a book that you don't fully enjoy!

I received a digital copy of Sugar Girl in exchange for an honest review. All of the above thoughts and opinions are my own!

If I saw Sugar Girl on a shelf at my bookstore, I would definitely purchase it myself.

Ciara Reilly is done with love, instead she's turned to being a sugar girl, one of the best in Dublin, the money helps keep her family out of debt and the casual dating suits her.

Things change when she meets the gorgeous Charlie Keller. Will she choose a chance of a real relationship over her career?

This book was instantly intriguing, I read it in one day. It was surprisingly emotional. Both characters are well fleshed out and have great, diverse family backgrounds. A very enjoyable read.

2.5 stars. Ciara Reilly has given up on relationships and is just out to make money as a sugar girl. She goes our to events with dates and sleeps with them for a price. She is not ready to meet anymore and just needs to save money to help her family. That is until she meets, Charlie Keller who is an entrepreneur. Charlie and Ciara have an instant connection neither of them could avoid. Ciara and Charlie start to spend time together and it starts to become clear that they both want to see each other more and more. Ciara is unsure is she should come clean about her profession of keep Charlie in the closet.

Truthfully, I am writing this review about a month after reading this book. I have forgotten a lot of the details about this book and it was pretty forgettable. I did not like Ciara and Charlie spent enough time together in the book and I wish they spend more time together. The concept of Ciara being a sugar girl, was not my favorite. I am not sure I would recommend this one, it was an okay read but nothing special.

There’s lots going on in this book - but at its heart it’s an honest WLM romance.

Ciara is trying to make ends meet in Dublin, working two jobs. Charlie is a millionaire. Their lives could not be more different.

Except the electricity between them when they meet is unmistakable. Unfortunately as soon as they meet, the lies also start. Lies to protect friends, to protect hearts.

What I find interesting about this book is that the work the books title comes from, and the nonjudgmental approach the author takes to the worlds oldest profession. It’s refreshing given the increasingly puritanical sentiment in the world. Ciara makes ends meet as a ‘Sugar Girl’ -a high end escort. She works for both sugar daddies and sugar mummies. We only meet a few of her clients, but the idea is central to the growth of the protagonists.

This is the first novel by this author I have read, and the quality of the writing, the character development and story arcs leaves me wanting more. I’d actually love to revisit these characters – see what comes next for them.

Definitely a novel I’d recommend!

Ciara is a Sugar Girl; a high-end prostitute who enjoys her job because she gets to meet interesting people, goes on dates without strings, and makes enough money to help pay her family's medical bills. When she meets Charlie while on a double date with Charlie's friends, there is an immediate attraction between them. As they spend more time together, Ciara begins to wonder if sugaring is really what she wants to do with her life.

The back story of both Ciara and Charlie's families gives readers insights into both women's lives. The plot moves quickly and the dialogue is natural.

I have mixed feelings about the actual romantic aspects of this book because their whole relationship is based on lies.

The story is told from Ciara's first-person point of view. which gives readers clear insights into all of her thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Then chapter nineteen is randomly told from Charlie's point of view. This is a big con for me because it's just really out of place with the rest of the book.

While I struggled to connect with this book because of all of the swirling lies, I kept reading because I did want to see how it would all shake out in the end. I do feel that Emma L. McGeown is going to become a big name in the lesfic genre.

What an interesting read by an author I plan to put on my radar. The read was a pleasant surprise. Having read the debut book, Aurora, I did not want to pass this one up, although the description, would not have been a pull for me. What a pleasant and wonderful surprise. This was not a fluff read. There was definitely depth. Ciara Reilly, barista, platinum sugar girl, and feeling weighed by the family issues. Charlie Keller, talented and successful entrepreneur, not necessarily looking for a relationship. As the read unfolds, there is drama all around especially between Ciara and her friend Tracey. All of the supporting characters are important and provide excellent richness and depth to the main characters. All around, wonderful read.

This was such a wonderful read. I felt instantly drawn to Ciara, the MC in this book. She is the oldest sibling trying to take care of her family by working as a Sugar Girl with her best friend. By chance she meets Charlie and it makes her question everything.

I read this in one go because I simply could not put it down. I really enjoyed the interactions between Ciaria and her LI, with her sister and her best friend.

I can only recommend this if you like conflicting main characters who are not flawless but mean well.

Overall this was an okay book. I unfortunately could not connect well with Ciara and the story just seemed boring to me. The writing wasn’t bad, I personally just could not connect. It has great potential and I’m sure someone else would love this book, On the other hand, I did love Ciara’s relationship with her family. It’s my favorite part about the book.
