Rate this book
Valerie Raffield’s dreams are about to come true. Her magazine, MisRule, is ready to launch. Only trouble is, she’s struggling to find an editorial designer who understands her vision.

When Lennox Falcone gets a nibble at her long stagnant résumé, she’s thrilled and excited to work remotely for Valerie. Things fall through when the MisRule team decides to go with another prospect, and Lennox is let down to say the least. But Valerie knows how talented Lennox is and keeps her on as a graphic artist. As they work closely together, their fascination with each other intensifies, and the MisRule team starts questioning the ethics of their relationship.

By the time the launch comes around, Valerie’s desire is undeniable. But their first face-to-face meeting doesn’t go as planned, and as secrets are revealed and passions burn bright, Valerie’s heart and her business could be in jeopardy.

The blurb seems to be dramatic, I absolutely did not feel this ultimatum. Am I wrong?

Valerie Raffield is about to publish a new magazine but isn’t entirely satisfied with the protypes she’s seen. Something is missing, something edgy. When she receives a resume from artist Lennox Falcone, she’s intrigued. When she speaks with Lennox, she’s sure the magazine needs Lennox’s talent. However, her management team rejects Valerie wanting to hire Lennox. Valerie continues to communicate with Lennox and even hires her as a contractor. When they meet via telephone, both women are immediately attracted to the other. When they finally meet in person, the attraction is hotter than the Phoenix sun in July.

This is a trope that has been done before many, many times. But few of those authors have done it as well as this author. Black has created two interesting, strong characters one of whom was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident a couple of years earlier and still hasn’t returned to 100% and may never be there. The attraction between the two main characters is instantaneous and Black does an excellent job with that aspect of her story.

While this story is well written and the storyline interesting, readers will be disappointed at how the book ends unexpectedly with issues being unresolved and loose ends not tied up.

This is a very good read, but potential readers need to be aware that this is a novella. If you like well plotted, well written books with strong, appealing characters, this book is for you and should be at the top of your to-be-read list.

My thanks to Bold Strokes Books for an eARC.

good quick read

Excellent quick read without over character development & thoughts. Many complain about the ending but I thought it was fine.
