'Struggle to Intimacy' holds the poems that are divided into six sections and a few writeups. The poems are very suitable according the the sections and every section/part is relative to the readers. The first part - Of Languages deals with a set up post Independence and one can easily feel the vibe. The emotions that these poems bring out give us a mixed feeling that also hold the pain.
The second part - Of Locations, takes the readers accross various destinations. The first poem was really too good but I couldn't connect and feel the rest of the poems, maybe because I have never been to the locations mentioned or maybe because I am not familiar with the feeling of those places.
The third part - Of food and smells gives the nostalgic feeling. I enjoyed reading Cashmere Chai.
The Fourth part - Of appearances consists deep poems whose reality will hit hard and expect the maturity to understand.
The Fifth part - Of Superstitions and Other Evils has just three write ups but I felt all of them. It was Sensitive but also it was something that we have grown up listening to. They completely bring out the truth no matter how bitter it is.
The last part - Of Wars ( And Homes ) highlights the pain of the individuals. They are bold and has the voices of people. They question the readers, thus proves to be thought Provoking.
Overall this book was a good read. Definetely not a book that we can finish in one sitting. Even though it is short read, one needs to understand and not just read out the writing. The blurb indeed defines the book well. Every reader will find themselves in at least one of the writing. I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for a mature writing. This book will not disappoint the readers.
A well-written book with a warm and emotional connection. Struggle for intimacy is a collection of poems by Kavya Sharma. Originating from life's experiences of the various corner this book hosts poems in 6 different categories. Categories are connecting rather than superficial ones.
With all poems being wonderfully crafted one of them which I got attached is from the section " OF FOOD AND SMELLS " Dussheri.
Regarding the word Dussheri, there are many interesting stories surrounding the word Dussheri. Most of them suggest one mango with the characteristics of 10 different mangoes.
This poem has given me a wide range of feelings, from nostalgic memories to when I enjoyed Dussheri with my grandpa. And above all, by expressing beauty with a common task, having a mango reminded me of the painting of Johannes Vermeer, a 15th-century painter who painted the beauty of everyday life.
"And while half of me is made of city dust, The other half is of leftover residue that floats over Ganga nonchalant, it doesn't shrug away the past like we do." 👉𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊:- 📚ⓉⒾⓉⓁⒺ:- Struggle for Intimacy poems 🖋️ⒶⓊⓉⒽⓄⓇ:- Kavya Sharma 🗞️ⓅⓊⒷⓁⒾⓈⒽⒺⓇ:- Hawakal Publication 🔤ⓁⒶⓃⒼⓊⒶⒼⒺ:- English 📖ⒻⓄⓇⓂⒶⓉ:- Paperback 👉𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒:- This book is divided into 6 parts. 1. These are poems on the post-colonial aftermath. Struggle for Intimacy deals with the chaos of the divided self, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, feminism, love, and the struggle to find one's being.
Review:
It is a short book basically a collection of 29 poems and those are divided into six parts: 1-Of language 2-Of Locations 3-Of food and smells. 4-Of Appearances 5-Of superstitions and other evils 6-Of Wars(And Home)
The grammar is impeccable, and the phrasing is well-structured and appropriate for poetry. Poetry may be a great way to observe the world differently, though it seems dull, difficult, or unusual.
All the poems are well-written. I particularly enjoy the following lines: "I sneeze and breathe - I miss a beat"
If I had to pick a favourite poetry out of all the other , it would be FIND ME.To read a few of them, swipe to the left.
It's a once-in-a-lifetime book that can easily be read during a coffee break. My recommendation is that if you're experiencing a reading slump and want to read anything light, this is the book for you.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 : This book id divided by author into 6 sections and each section contains at least three poem and more than 7 poem.
𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 : Language used in this book is intermediate as I found words are quit difficult for beginners but it's very understandable language.
𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 : I'm a huge fan of poets as I wrote the above quote which is very true. When I read the poems I can generally catch the feelings of author what exactly they want to say with this poetic devises.
I really appreciate the author fir this brilliant work. It's wonderful talent of author to express strong massage through poems.
I loved the book and enjoying while reading. I read this book twise deeply to understand the ultimate massage.
Best wishes to the author and highly recommend book for readers who love to read poems.
The book “Struggle for Intimacy” is an anthology of short poems on themes surrounding ethnocentrism, racism, xenophobia, and the ever so controversial inter-racial love. These poems arose out of the poet’s own experiences in a foreign country, some came from the colonial stories she heard from her grandmother, and some came out of imagination.
It is divided primarily into six sections - Of Languages, Of Locations, Of Food and Smells, Of Appearances, Of Superstitions and Other Evils, and Of Wars (and Homes). The poet has beautifully conveyed varied emotions through these poems.
Some of my favourite poems from this book are From the Land of Cultures to the Land of God, Dussheri, and Mixed Race to name a few of them. Also sharing an excerpt from the book **
*“A mother A lover The night she helps them sleep and travel to a world of no infinity, no death have you seen her? floating around Waiting... to hold your hand and take you along from the land of cultures to the land of god.”*
For poetry aficionados, they would relish reading this book and having a good time. Also, the readers will have an emotional connection and strike a chord with them.
• Delving further, the overall theme of the book revolves around the aspects of inner conflicts that perpetuate a plethora of feelings. At the same time, the infusion of post-colonial elements also adds to the dynamics of the same.
• The whole of the book has been divided into various chapters with each of them containing poems featuring subject matters of contemporary relevance as can be seen from chapter titles such as "Your lingo, mine", “love, in colloquial abuses" etc. Each of the chapters remains to be hard-hitting in nature as the same gives enough scope for the readers to savor its essence and relate themselves with its underlying theme.
• The writing style of the book has been kept simple and remains to be devoid of any form of complexity which remains to be the author’s intent and when the aspect of various elements of one’s life.
• The reader can easily see that the book comes as one that combines simplicity, effectiveness, and relatable and the whole of it makes this book a must-read for anyone willing to go for a soothing read.
Poetry is not a quick read because it should be felt, inhaled, pondered over and relate to and this book of poems hit all the right spots and checks off all the boxes! I loved how the poetess has used metaphors, figure of speechless, free verse, similies, etc and perfected the poems.
The book is divided into six parts : 🎀Of Languages 🎀Of Locations 🎀Of Food and Smells 🎀Of Appearances 🎀Of Superstitions and Other Evils 🎀 Of Wars and Homes
My favourites are Injured Tongue, Mashed potatoes with Tor-ti-ah, Black Cat, Meat Market, Dear Occident. I loved the poems they reached out and touched my very soul, some circumstances the poetess says we can relate and some yet to experience, she has used spectacular restraint in not using too many details she's refined poetry at its finest and toned down version and as a lover and student of English literature I loved it oh so much! I loved that she's written poetry ina very unique way and it's just so so good and relatable as a non English speaker. Looking forward to read more from the poetess!!
Book:- Struggle for Intimacy: poems Author:- Kavya Sharma Rating:- 5/5
Struggle for Intimacy is a book containing several short poems. All these poems are fast read and possess some deep meaning.
"Injured Tongue" it sticks to my tongue, the dust that you spew through your accent, the unsaid vowels rest unheard.... These lines inspired me a lot. I was just mesmerized with this particular poem.
The author had divided the book into six sub sections. The best of them are - of locations & Of appearances.
The poetry within deals with human mindset, it's chaos, love, and the struggle to be oneself. The language used is simple and any beginner can understand the poems easily.
The poems showcases lingual love, the beauty of the world. Highly recommended to readers who enjoy poetries.
The book 'Struggle for Intimacy' by Kavya Sharma is an anthology of poems.
The context of poems are mostly always inspired from our surroundings. The author got her inspiration from her surroundings too and she has penned down her thoughts in the form of poems after listening to stories from her grandmother and from her experiences after living in a foreign country.
Some of my favourite lines from this book are:
'Dear Occident, you pronounce my name wrong but it means poetry काव्या the syllables go upside down you don't just say it, you sing it. I welcome you home...'
The book is divided into six sections. These six sections depict the themes on which these poems are based. The poems in this book are written in free verse. The poems are on themes of ethnocentrism and post colonialism. The book should be read by readers interested in the genre of poetry.
I am misery Wrapped in vermillion They sell at the meat market Near Devi Temple Today and tomorrow I will be reminded That I belong.
The following poem has been taken from a beautiful book , Struggling for Intimacy , the book deals with deep meaning poems , that are very meaningful and worthwhile. The book has been divided into 6 parts, each part dealing with several theme.
The best part that I liked was Of Superstitious. The poems there attracted me the most. Well , each and every line of poem is worth reading and I got so deep while reading it.
The book is really beautiful and unique. The best part is it's cover page, I really loved that and it is so much attractive. The book should be picked as it's thr best one. The book can be best for those who are interested in poems and prose.
It was my first poetry book. The book embraced so many untouched areas including xenophobia( dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.), ethnocentrism(the attitude that one's own group, ethnicity, or nationality is superior to others) and many more. You can complete the book in a day but it will take a couple of Re-reads to actually devour the whole concept. Overall I liked the flow of the book and the message author wants to convey. Kavya Sharma's way of narration surpassed the usual style. My Favorite poem in the book is the black cat. They say to not judge the book by its cover but I can't stop admiring the cover, it's so pretty . If you are looking for a book with strong vocabulary and serious topics bundled in the form of poetry you can definitely go for this one.
A deep sensual book. Not the easy ones. But worth the time that used to run through every words. Divided into six parts including write-ups too How freedom is mispronounced these days. The second part takes us to destinations and the pictures comes alive. Feels like travelling across laying back in my chair. Of Food and Smells brought nostalgia and the taste back to me. I would die to read this for the first time again. Most loved part is the fifth part where the poetess talks about superstitions where it all seems real and are true to some extreme points. These poems require efforts and can't always relate but is deep and meaningful and concepts are mind-capturing.
I either find english poetry too childish or something over my head. This book had some mature poems and others were "over my head" type. In the beginning it is said that the poems revolves around the partition and it's effect but i didn't completely feel it that way.Poems were basically like seeing someone or something and describing it completely in different ways. Some poems described the people of that era, their way of living and their beliefs. The poems i personally liked basically dealt with beliefs of people, specially when it comes to their religion. The language used is not suitable for a beginner.
🌷 I need some Milk Honey and a Fetish for a month to shake off his sins... 🌷 A completely different style of poems I read here. 🌷 The way author wrote the poems is very different from all the poems I've read . 🌷 The choice of word are very clever. 🌼 The feeling in every poem is well portrayed in the form of words. 🌼 I really love all the poems from " of superstition and other evils" 🌼 Some other poems I enjoyed were 🌼 The sun here rises from the east 🌺 Lingual love and My friend hariya. 🌺 Cover is beautiful and different 🌺 Language is lucid . 🌺 A light and calm reading book 🍁 I recommend this if you are looking for something different.
The poems in this book deal with the idea of Intimacy. It talks about how one can resonate places, incidents, ideas and beliefs to create an intimate relationship with none but herself only. Reading these poems felt like the author had invested her very own sincere feelings and experiences, in every line. I, however, felt very much connected with a few of them but others did not appeal to me. My favourites were the ones about locations and food. I had to keep coming back to them after intervals to connect to them and enjoy them better. The book has a pretty cover and an interesting appropriate blurb. I enjoyed reading her work and would recommend it for beginners in this genre.
The book is a collection of poems on the post-colonial aftermath. Every poem has several different layers of meaning below the surface. Each time I re-read the poems I get different meaning from it. Poetry is difficult to understand at times yet it's beautiful once you get the meaning and point in them. This book is really blending and expressive at the same time. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all fans of poetry book.
"and while half of me is made of city dust, the other half is of leftover residue that floats over ganga nonchalant, it doesn't shrug away the past like we do." ~Kavya Sharma
An amazing poetry book pen down by kavya sharma is so fascinating. Book is divided into 6parts. Which overwhelmed the readers.

Book cover is so pretty. Light colour combination of this book along with verses hook up a readers till the last. A short gripping book is a best read for this week grab your copies from Amazon and enhance your knowledge.
As the name suggest the book talks of Intimacy. It talks about how one can resonate the little things in life or memories becomes something we go looking for to feel intimate towards oneself. The book is divided in segments about Languages, Locations, Food and Smells, Appearances, Superstitions and Other Evils, and Wars. The writer has perfectly passed fluctuated feelings on through these poems. The feeling in each poem is all around depicted. Front of the book is rich basic and well planned. The punctuation is perfect, and the expressing is very much organized and suitable for verse.
Started reading Struggle for Intimacy by Kavya Sharma last night and finished this morning!
This is a beautiful collection of poems about the post-colonial aftermath. The poems are simple and at the same time very complex. Each poem can be read multiple times and you'll find new things about it.
I am not much of a poetry guy, but I know good poems when I read them and this collection talks about things we sometimes don't think of in our day-to-day lives!!
