What in the name of holy quirkiness was that? 😂
It's beyond my comprehension how anyone could take this qUiRkY 🤪 boy seriously, more so the author who, by the looks of the blurb, is convinced she's written a DARK and UNCONVENTIONAL love story. How am I supposed to take this warning at face value when the purported villain's thought process is so... cheesy? This boy's speech patterns are definitely in on the trend, must be the countless hours of watching tiktok reels and participating in the twitter thread discussions. 🤔
They are calling dark anything these days. 🧍🏼♀️
Also I'm not entirely positive I got the author's point about them being cousins?? She secured the bet by declaring the hero and the heroine are not blood related, but proceeded to rub the word cousins in our faces over and over again expecting us to...what?? Applaud her for playing it safe? 💀🤡
Or maybe it was meant to add the nonexistent taboo-ish flavor to the story? 🤡🤡🤡🤡 It doesn't work that way. The forbidden trope is based on making us feel the wrongfullness of their relationship, not playing the broken record in the hopes we'll catch on to the tune.

This is so good!!!! But some serious crazy sh*t!!!
I was curious about Elijah and Cadence relationship but never though it was this dark, twisted and crazy.
The other Rory book was really soft comparing to these.
Warning: A lot of triggers and a very, very dark short story.
Be careful if you chose to read it.

Elijah has been in love with Cadence since, well, forever. Their feelings have only grown since he moved in with her and her mom after the passing of his father.
With a relationship being frowned upon, they’ve only ever shared secret touches and lingering looks. In order to stave off questions, Elijah feigns indifference and has gone so far as to date other girls. “That’s how fcuked in the head I am over this girl. I enjoy upsetting her because I know I’m the only one who can make it better.“

So we have Elijah a psychotic young man who is infatuated and obsessed with his cousin Cadence, not blood related. To erase any suspicion that he wants his cousin but also to upset her, he went out with other girls in the past. In his chapters, he is very clear that he has absolutely no interest in any of them. It's all just a cover. When the story starts, he has a girlfriend but he literally hates her and finds her annoying.
I think I liked Elijah, he was very possessive and obsessed with Cadence. Definitely a psychopath with violent tendencies and harshness towards anyone who isn't her, especially to those who would dare stand in his way, touch or even look at her. I found him very brutal and cold in his way of thinking. I honestly didn't mind it, but I wished he had been warmer when it came to Cadence. Obviously, he was different with her, but I wanted more.
As for Cadence, I'm not going to lie, she ruined the story for me. She was sweet and somewhat meek and would do anything for Elijah. She was aware that her cousin was dangerous but she saw him as a hero since he'd always had her back, always protected her. I liked her at the very start, but the way she was in that last chapter lost me. Her sudden change of character really put me off. I even deducted a star because of it since it's one of my pet peeves.
The ending felt a bit over the top. Certain things, in my opinion, didn't need to happen. It also felt like there was no real conclusion; one more chapter or an epilogue could've solved that. Overall, the pacing was good, the story was entertaining and dark...I don't have much else to say.

I am sorry but i couldn't read this beyond page 25.
Their repeated mention of the word 'cousins' irked me a bit.
I was ready to overlook the fact that they were actually cousins. But why do they have to mention it again and again.
Also, one thing that i REALLY REALLYYYY hated was the h was repeatedly trying to hump the H. I mean we all know that they like each other , that they're gonna end up together. But the h KNOWS that the H is in a relationship, yeah okay, he doesn't like his gf and it's just platonic, but still the h should respect his boundaries you know?
Nope, this one's not for me.

I loved the hero so much and the heroine was a virgin that I missed all the other flaws. The hero is a crazy killer, he doesn't give a damn about everyone except the heroine - I fell in love😍❤️😁
Three disadvantages:
1. The hero had a girlfriend but kept her as a cover for his obsession with the heroine, nothing is mentioned about sex with others.
2. The hero is the nephew of the heroine's mother. Again, it is not clear which of his parents was related and what degree of kinship, maybe he was a cousin-nephew. (I inspired myself to assume that they are distant relatives)
3. There is no epilogue, the author is new, she has several more books from this universe coming out and this couple will appear in other books and what will happen to them there is not clear. in this book, the heroine (virgin) and the hero are only with each other.

Unbelievable but entertaining..

I knew her soul was tethered to mine and bound for hell, but I didn’t realize how devilish she already is.
That was quite the read. Wild, spicy and very dark.
There's always something about unhinged, psychotic, and extremely obsessive mmcs that just lures me in. Eli was a perfect example of that. Dark, broody and so deadly, he was a poison that none would want to escape.
She looks like an angel bathed in sin.
I love stories that the fmc goes from being the sweetest little creature to a feral queen. It's like witnessing a butterfly escaping from her cocoon. Candice was a sweet, little lethal butterfly. I wasn't sure about her at the beginning but after finishing the book, I would stand by her anytime.
Did I like it? Yes. It was fast and dark.
Would I read it again? Yes.

Really quick dark romance read.
Seeing as this is a prequel to a new series, I think it sets the tone well. It has two things I love in a dark romance: forbidden relationship and graphic kills.
The bloodier the better. That's the mood I'm in.

Ohh, I loved this one! What a messed up trip.
This is the story of Cadence and Elijah. Elijah is a crazy psychopath who is completely obsessed with Cadence. They grew up together as "cousins" (so I guess not actually blood related even though everyone in town thinks of them as related? It was kind of confusing). So any love relationship they have would be considered "taboo" by the town. Elijah steals whatever touches and cuddles he can get from Cadence, but he's running out of patience. He has a girlfriend whom he uses entirely as a cover, so that he can lie to people if they find him touching Cadence. He has been using the girlfriend for sex to tie him over from having to wait for Cadence, but he absolutely hates his girlfriend and only obsesses over Cadence. It's honestly disturbing and funny to read his POV. Elijah is also ridiculously jealous and possessive over Cadence. He has already killed countless people who have flirted with her during her waitressing job as well as people who have given her trouble.
As for Cadence, she might initially seem normal and shy, but she has a lot of hidden darkness in her that surprises (and arouses 🤭) Elijah. She matches him perfectly.
I agree with other reviews that I just wish we got an epilogue showing them settling down in their happy ending. The book just cuts off and it feels a little bit like a cliffhanger, almost.

* Hero is NOT a virgin, has experience. He has been getting (at the very least) blowjobs from his current girlfriend. As soon as the heroine shows her reciprocation of his feelings, he is loyal and dedicated to her.

* OM: all unwanted on heroine's part. Lots of men flirt with her, one tries to blackmail her into having sex with him. Heroine goes with him (but never plans to cheat, she has a plan). But of course the crazed hero finds them and handles it brutally.
* No condoms or protection, hero has breeding kink just for heroine.
* Ends on a happy-ish note, but not a full on HEA. No epilogue.

It's been a long time since Aiden King that I find such an endearing psychotic book hero, and it is a pity it is a short novella instead of a full-length novel. This is definitely an unconventional dark romance with an anti-hero, which is my cup of tea. ;)
The ending is kinda HFN and author mentioned there will be an epilogue for all the couples in the Hollow Hill series after all the books are released so I am really looking forward to it! I wish the author would have more MF books (and not RH) in the series with similar vibes that I can binge on! :)

Maybe more of 3.5 stars because it felt a little undercooked, with some story details being vague and a too-abrupt ending. But, I'm rounding it up to 4 stars for a great psychotic hero who straddles that perfect line between being an absolute lunatic and caring for the heroine (in an unhinged way). I'm tired of reading psychotic heroes who treat the heroine with cruelty, like Nox from Broken Bonds. So, I'm glad to see one who cares for her - but at the same time, he isn't soft for her and doesn't change for her. It strikes a good balance. He gave me vibes of some recent favorites like Shay from Torment: Part One and Nick from Dukes of Ruin. Since this author is new, this definitely piqued my interest to see more of what she puts out.

Ah, the old fake taboo.
Dear authors,
“We’re family, just not blood related” does not count or earn you taboo points. At best, it makes for some awkward tension. But let’s not take credit where it isn’t due.
What I liked ~
- H wasn’t mega rich. Can I recall the last time I read a book with a crazy OTT obsessive H who wasn’t a billionaire or billionaire’s son living in a mansion? No, I can’t. So, this was refreshing.
- H is actually violent and has murdered people over the h. If I were compensated for every time a hero makes empty threats about killing someone over the heroine but doesn’t make good on them, I’d have enough money to hire someone to write dozens of custom books just for me based on my preferences (side note: how cool would that be?).
What I didn’t like ~
- See aforementioned complaint about fake taboo. ‘nough said.
- The cheese 🧀. Oh boy, the reviews didn’t lie. Was this story ever on Wattpad? Because I swear it was written by a teenage girl. Despite the H’s violent actions, his inner monologue was anything but menacing. Chuckling to myself throughout the book killed any dark vibes I was supposed to be picking up.
- The h… I literally don’t remember anything about her. So she clearly wasn’t anything to write home about.
- The story was 3 pages long. Not literally, of course, but it might as well have been with how undercooked it was. This is probably my bad because I usually avoid novellas seeing as I wish all books were at least 800 pages in length. I truly don’t see the point in novellas, but every once in a while a blurb will be too intriguing to resist. 99% of the time I regret reading them because there’s not enough meat to do anything for me. This was no exception.
The upside? Not too much time was wasted. So, there’s that. Also, the satisfaction of another tbr biting the dust.

I LOVED Elijah & Cadence. These two were just so completely amazing I can’t get enough of them! This is a slightly forbidden/taboo romance. They aren’t blood related but were raised & seen by their town as cousins. Elijah is the definition of an antihero who is also VERY psychotic about his woman. I loved how obsessive & protective he was with her. It’s that unhealthy amount we all know in love in our dark romances.
Cadence was not at all who I thought she was in the best way. I only wish I got to see more of her character development. With this being a novella we do miss out on a handful of things but overall I was very happy with how it all played out! I was still emotionally invested in these two as individuals & their relationship.
The spice was sooooo hot! Ugh I just love Elijah & his thoughts👏🏻 He truly is the “touch her & I kill you” book boyfriend!
I highly recommend this novella for my dark romance loving peeps!

A decent read. Not much happened throughout this novella asides really hot sex and one specific event that may trigger others, It didn’t bother me though. I absolutely love the forbidden aspect of it as well.

They're both 18? And cousins by marriage. Which is repeatedly told to us ad nauseam to make SURE we know that this has some taboo ish going on. They're cousins. But not blood related. Got it? But they're cousinssssssssss. Its taboo. Ish. 😐😐😐😐😐
So he has a gf as a cover to make sure that the taboo cousin thing is kind of hidden by his gf. And h has no problem effing the H (the cousin) even though he has a gf.
I like that he's very jealous and possessive of her but.....that was about it.

This was such a... weird read. Probably should've expected it given the premise and trope, but I expected the hero to be dark and psychotic. Instead what I got was a boy who was cringey and a try hard to be villainous. Not to mention they fucked in a bathroom with a dead man inside, so there's that. I don't exactly hate the book, I just thought it was kind of weird like I don't even know and remember half of what I just read.

First of two novellas I read in one night and what a bang it was. I read this simply because I am in a dark taboo mood and this did not disappoint. I mean the girl kills someone after having slept with the guy right next to the dead body of someone he killed....what a power duo. Check TWs and CWs please, but this was a fun time. Though tbh I could have used like one more chapter at the end.

I’m really surprised that this was a novella because it didn’t read like one. Elijah is Cadence’s cousin not cousin, and he’s wanted her for years. He dates someone he doesn’t give a shit about just so he has an excuse for the times he gets too close to Cadence for her mother’s comfort. Elijah moved in with Cadence and her mother and he has trouble keeping his hands to himself. But this isn’t just a slightly taboo situation, Elijah is so infatuated with Cadence that he’s literally killed for her... numerous times, and he’s about to again when Cadence is forced to go with Colt, a rich asshole that’s been playing as her friend but really wants to own her.
Cadence has been in love with Elijah for a while now, waiting for him to make his move. Little does Elijah know, Cadence is just as dark as he is, and he gets confirmation of how perfect they are together on the night that Colt takes Cadence. But Colt isn’t the only one that needs to worry, Nicole, Elijah’s “girlfriend”, also doesn’t realize that she’s fucking with a couple that is insane for each other.
Cadence has been in love with Elijah for a while now, waiting for him to make his move.
