And with that single sentence, the Good Witch of the Lake’s secret crush on the dashing Sir Harij ends in heartbreak. Still, when he promises to help her gather the ingredients, Rose is thrilled at the chance to gaze upon a man she’d normally never get to interact with. She learns to brace her pounding heart for their usual stilted conversations…but what is she to do when he inexplicably shows up at her doorstep with bread and a jar of apple butter?
This was cute. Not much happens, which is ok for a series starter. She sends him after ingredients, he brings her foods, we learn that most people think witches are evil. The characters are pleasant but bland, and points off for zero discussion of whether love potions are ethical.
This was a really cute read, though I confess I was a little bit disappointed too.
That's probably not the right way to start this review because Rose has to be the sweetest witch I've read about! She is so mindful of her actions/expressions and being true to her lineage due to her secret, but even more that, she is SOOOOOO cute when she is around our hero! Even when he yelled at her, she was just in a daze by how shiny he was and being so close to her! LOL!
However, where I felt a little bit let down was that I expected A LOT more romance than what we get in this first volume. I totally get that we as the reader need to know why Rose fell in love at first sight for this man asking for a love potion, but I really wanted to see more of their interactions because they are SO adorable together! I think it was more of a personal preference that I didn't need to know the why she was living in the forest alone or how she came to love him. I just wanted to SEE more of him with her.
Yet even with that said, the last quarter made me feel all the happiness I was hoping and expecting when I started! I loved seeing them together and how much he is "looking out" for her in his own way! I definitely cannot wait to see what happens next!
This leads me to say that I think this was a great first volume that sets up the world and gives us important backstory on a few things. Due to all this, the romance I desperately wanted from the very beginning doesn't really shine until the last quarter, leading me to strongly believe that this is a series where when starting, you need book one AND book two. I think that is especially true if like me you are looking forward to our "couple" being on page a lot more often than what was shown (and should clarify that not just when he is gathering ingredients like he was in the beginning).
Again, that doesn't mean this was a "bad" story or anything! I definitely enjoyed it (and absolutely LOVED the merchant!)! I just think I had a little bit of different expectations for this volume, but that doesn't hinder my excitement for the second volume, which hopefully will release soon!
I totally need to read the next volumes. This was sooo charming and cute, just how I like it. Plus it's super funny and there are so many hilarious faces and interactions? I didn't expect it to be a romcom, but it delivered in such a fantastic way.
Always grumpy, this knight comes to her door to ask for a love potion. She is sad because she has had a crush on him for years (he doesn't know tho). She's a lonely witch who has literally no one and I say it's my type of story because he sees that she's lonely, doesn't cook, barely eats, and comes back every single day with food and be there with her. AND I'M SO HERE FOR THIS!!! She doesn't know that the love potion is not for him so there's that miscommunication happening but it makes it so good tho? Like she think he wants someone to fall in love with him and she has a crush on him and maybe he'll have a crush on her too soon? I CAN'T WAIT.
This was such a sweet surprise! I wasn’t sure if I’d like this one since I’m not one for reading witch or magic type stories! But this was so precious!!! I couldn’t put it down! It gave me The Savior’s Book Cafe Story from Another Worldvibes. So if you loved that you, you’ll love this too! I’m definitely going to pick up the next volume.
This was adorable. I think a lot of cozy fantasy romance novel lovers would adore this. The romance is incredibly sweet, and the two characters are extremely endearing. I needed a little more for a full 5 star on this, but I can see this series becoming a new favorite! Excited to continue on!
Ich werde also weiterlesen :)
Definite mixed opinions on this. On the one hand, the story is slow and meandering with a clear one track focus on Rose’s feelings towards Harij which isn’t entirely my jam, but on the other hand the budding friendship to hopefully more between them is cute and had me smiling multiple times. Rose’s incredible shyness and blurting out the stupidest things when rattled is very relatable to me and I really like her. And Harij is so sweet and nice and his constant griping about Rose’s lack of cleanliness was funny.
What I did NOT like was the whole “he walked in on a girl taking a bath and saw her naked” thing because, boy, was she naked for waaaay too long, in my opinion, but nothing was shown or detailed beyond if she was wearing a bikini so at least there’s that, even though I really wish I’d found a warning about that being in here somewhere so I didn’t end up feeling so blindsided.
Other than that I enjoyed it, even though it’s much more chill then what I normally read, and am curious to see how things go since I heard from a friend that it gets better in Volume 2.

I found this story funny and completely endearing. I generally avoid manga that have super long titles. I’ll admit that that isn’t completely fair for me to do, but in my mind, if a manga has a long title it’s probably just a copy/paste isekai story that I won’t be interested in. I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make Him a Love Potion is not that, and in fact, it’s a very interesting all-around good time.
The Witch of the Lake isn’t the haunting crone the town folk make her out to be. Rose is a good witch living out her cottage-core life separate from those who would otherwise ostracize her. She is delightful, with a wonderful sense of humor. She is also completely in love with Sir Harij, a knight who comes to her asking for a love potion.
Much to Rose’s dismay, she agrees to help Harij. She sends him on an endless barrage of fetch quests as a means to make the potion but also to see him with great regularity. Much of the story revolves around fleshing out Rose’s character and backstory. Why is she all alone and How does she feel about her craft? The answers to which make Rose feel more like a fully realized character, and make the audience root for her.
If you were expecting this series to be a romance bomb right out of the gate, then you may be a little disappointed. However, I think laying adequate groundwork makes romance stories all the more fulfilling. So I’m here for it! Harij and Rose interact more toward the latter half of the volume when things get hilarious and charming. I hope to see Harij develop more and to see their relationship continue to unfold in the second volume.
Overall, I found this story to be highly enjoyable. The art is great and the characters are whimsical and humorous. I was skeptical when I realized that this manga was an adaptation from a Light Novel as those can be a hit-and-miss, but this turned out to be a great read. I’m looking forward to reading the next volume.

I adored this. It's a slow-moving fantasy romance with lots of cottage core vibes. Most of the story is the heroine, Rose, moping around her cottage and pining for the hero and doing witchy things like making potions. There's nothing deep or complex going on (to be fair, it is also a volume 1, but I get the sense that just isn't this manga's goal), but there are enough plot revelations and gentle flirting to make things interesting. Also, there's courtship by way of food, so how can you not love that?
It's cozy and cute and the art is very pretty: I'm definitely up for volume 2 at some point.
The good witch of the lake, Rose, has had a crush on Sir Harji for four years. She finally has a chance to interact with him, but it’s because he’s there to purchase a love potion. In order to stall him and spend as much time as possible with him, she has him procure each ingredient one at a time. As they spend more time together, they get to know one another a little bit better.
This manga is incredibly cute with adorable, dorky leads and commendable attention to detail with the background and thought put into the environment.
The art itself is quite lovely and attractive and the story is intriguing. The characters themselves are quite cute and bounce off each other well. It isn’t entirely too often that we get a prestigious male lead with such a foul mouth but in a non-stereotypical way. He actually acts quite a lot like a real person. (He even reminds me somewhat of my boyfriend.) But I think that’s the meat of what makes the dynamics of these characters seem so attractive. They’re quite organic. Harij behaves really organically and so does Rose. They both feel like they could be entirely real people experiencing these things in real time, and that’s the main point that immerses me in the story. Equally so, I think that is also the primary charm of this story; how very well the characters interact and behave. They feel so incredibly real that it feels like I’ve gone somewhere else for a bit.
I wish I knew how to summarize this manga, but I really don’t. The synopsis on the back does well to sell the story, but it doesn’t do it justice. There’s far more to this manga than what I can think to describe at this point in time. I recommend reading it with a nice cup of tea or a good snack.
This was a fun romance manga with two very cute leads. Rose has been isolated most of her life, so she's both shy and a little awkward, but definitely endearing. The knight, Sir Harij, is unsure what to make of her, but it was sweet seeing him develop some strong protective urges towards her. I'm not really a fan of the idea of love potions, so I was glad there was a little bit of a twist involved. I look forward to seeing where this goes!
Low 3 stars. Eh. Could get better but it felt so slow and the art, while pretty and sometimes quirky/cute in the beginning, seemed like I was watching an anime at times where they reuse panels and frames. The story was a lot of information dumping and kind of started to drag and the big tension is a misunderstanding that can be solved by either not jumping to conclusions immediately or asking a question (is this for you?) which is annoying to me.
This review will be for the whole series; read at your own risk!
Read 1 volume
I LOVED THIS!! Super cute manga about a young witch who’s crush shows up asking for a love potion. She’s heartbroken but still must complete her task. I’m glad we learned why he wanted a potion! I’m super curious to see where this goes!
This is adorable. It’s slow paced at first but it’s so sweet. Plus, the banter, her inner (and outer) thoughts and outbursts made this a hilarious read and I can’t wait to read more. Only 4/5 stars simply for pacing because I DEVOURED this.
I loved Rose and learning about her and making potions. We don’t know much about her love interest yet other than he seems like a good person to her and doesn’t treat her like an other. I put in for more at the library.
Very promising start to a cute whimsical romance manga! I really enjoyed the characters and their budding slow burn romance, I loved the setting & I think the art style is beautiful. I’m excited to continue.
