This is a cute, quick intro to your big three (Sun, Moon, Rising). It‘s got a fun 60s/70s psychedelic vibe to the illustrations. It‘s very much their Instagram feed in hardcover.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.
The illustration style is described as “witchy 1970s arthouse film” which I really like and makes it a bit different than the usual astrology illustrations.
This book heavily focuses on the Sun, Moon, and Rising signs. Their meanings are constantly being told which is helpful in case you get them confused as you read. The authors make it a point for the reader to become comfortable with identifying those signs before it jumps into more fun activities. The astrological signs are summarized in broad bullet points as opposed to sticking with one or two things that the signs are known for.
After gaining an understanding of the Big Three Signs, the focus turns into how they relate to magic, such as tarot and oracle cards, self-care activities, grounding exercises, and even witch types. Once that is done, there is a chapter titled “Just For Fun”. It’s exactly what it says in the title, a chapter full of random things similar to what you see online, such as The Signs as Movie Genres (an example taken from the book).
There is a Mini Glossary provided, but it’s at the back of the book. I wish this had been after the Introduction chapter instead.
Overall, it’s a fun book with a digestible understanding of astrology in easy, conversational language.
The Pulp Girls are awesome. I loved reading this book. They presented background information on Astrology and discussed the twelve recognized signs in regard to the many personalities. Moreover, they stated that calculating your birth chart reveals a great amount of information, especially when you first start learning about astrology, thay all the planets combine in vastly different ways for each person.
They outlined a step-by-step recipe for you to get your birth chart. I love the way they used charts and pictures to illustrate the information needed to calculate your birth charts. They started with the following:
Birth Chart Recipe Ingredients: Date of Birth Time of Birth, Place of Birth
And, of course, they gave directions.
They discussed the Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable signs along with listing the twelve zodiac signs and their attributes. They discussed all aspects of astrology in terms of the elements, the Cosmic, and the planets' affecting your sinpgns in the various houses.
The layout and graphics are awesome.
This is a great book for anyone's reference library, whether beginner or adept. Highly recommend.
Astrology for the Cosmic Soul is a fun and youthful take on astrology from the women behind the Pulp Girls Instagram. I love the artwork and info on their instagram page so I was excited to read this book. The first half of the book covers astrology basics - sun/moon/rising and I found their descriptions accurate and relatable, There's also an overview on the planets and elements of the signs. The book goes into the personality of each sign, covering compatibility, good and bad traits etc. The second half of the book covers witchy topics you can use with astrology like tarot, rituals and other divination. There's also a just for fun section going into astrological correspondences, like halloween costumes for each sign or movies for each sign. These types of things you can find on their instagram posts. The art throughout the book is retro, colorful and fantastic. It would make a great gift to introduce someone to astrology. I would especially recommend it for teens and college aged people.
Okay so I have been following the Pulp girls on Instagram for a while now and boy oh boy was I excited for this one.
This cute little read, had a lot of information for the beginner astrologer and gives you just enough informative to start your spiritual journey with the hint of fun activities and funnily accurate telling for each zodiac.
I would have loved to see more about birth charts and maybe a deep dive into the things most people aren't really familiar with for example your MC and careers or possibly the lilith sign, but I really enjoyed the information that was given in this book!
Very fun and interesting reading. This is well organized, with a wide breadth of information and a nice variety of topics. It covers the usual subjects (sun, moon, rising signs, etc.) plus branches out into related fields like tarot, amulets, etc. The layout is visually appealing and very readable with a lot of varied formats. The art is gorgeous as well! This would be a great pick for anyone interested in astrology or getting to know themselves better.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
If you loved early 2000’s Teen Magazines,, Lisa Frank, and learning about astrology you would love this! It follows, the understanding of the big main three signs in your birth chart with some fun bonus features. The art style is similar to Lisa Frank, very well done and nostalgic. The layout remind me of a early 2000’s Teen Magazines and was very easy to read and follow. It was a fun figuring out your birth chart and opening up a path to learning bits about yourself along the way.
Would recommend this to anyone interested in the basics of astrology or simply just a fun read with friends.
I have tried to read this properly but struggling, as the illustrations catapult me back into time! I'm suddenly 20 years younger and listening to MTV Music on my semi flat screen (still quite chunky) in my room with a single bed, with pink Sabrina the teenage witch bedding...
Okay maybe too many details... but the text was easy to follow... teenage easy, so maybe this is aimed at a much younger public and I clearly not that.
This is definitely a beginner’s astrology guide, so keep that in mind. The first half of it is super informative and I found it easier to follow than other astrology books. Lots of great info on your big three!!! The last half of the book reminds me of an astrology section in a teen magazine, so if that’s your vibe, you’ll enjoy it. The artwork is so cute and fun, it’s the reason I bought the book to begin with.
Kaleidoscopic illustrations accompany clear explanations of astrology for the beginner. The representation is second to none. Will make a perfect gift for the young or newbie astrologer in your life! Be sure to check out the accompanying tarot deck, which is equally as lovely.
I honestly - shallowly - picked this up because I thought the illustrations were nice, but the text turned out to be great too! This would be a perfect beginner's astrology book for teenagers and young adults. 💫✨️
I absolutely love this book. The layout, it made it so interesting and easy to understand for my autistic brain without a lot of BS. The art work is adorable and really pulls the layout together.
Retro, funky and fun are the best three words for this book. The illustrations are wild. So so so much information all through the book. Definitely read all signs not just your own!
Fun, funky and informative (yet not overwhelming), this is a great book for beginners to start learning about astrology. Loved the sassy tone of the writing and the fun artwork.
