One word is all I needed to hear to know they really meant Richard.
Because Richard Shaw is Texas.
It means they want to use me as a weapon against a man I know all too well.
A man I hate and swore I’d never allow near me again.
He is notorious for his power and brutality. But once upon a time, he was my everything. He owned my heart only to destroy it.
The problem is, I have no choice. In this game, if anyone gets hurt, it has to be me.
Years of a secret love affair come back to haunt me, but in truth, it has never ended.
I’ve always felt like no matter how far or how fast I ran, it was always in circles, leading me back to where my heart bled out for him to watch.
Richard becomes determined to reclaim my heart. And I’m scared because when he holds me in his arms, I feel safe for the first time in forever, and my walls begin to crumble.
I quickly fall under, wanting to believe him. Wanting to dream of a time and a reality where our love could withstand all the pain.
The High Society Duet is a spinoff from A Stern Family Saga. This is Cherry's Story.
Monique Orgeron is a Contemporary Romance w/ suspense author. Stern Family Saga
Written by Monique Orgeron’s eldest, most beautiful, and intelligent daughter. (My sister is going to hate this part.) My mom happens to be the most caring, loving, and stubborn person I know, well anyone knows. She gives 100% percent of herself to everyone and has given up so much of herself for my sister and I. For twenty-one years she has poured her heart and soul into making sure we know that we are loved and that we can do anything we put our minds too, but it was about time she figured that out about herself. Up until this year I hadn’t seen my mom do anything for only her, but this book has allowed her to travel the world through the pages of a book, make new friends, and feel the joy of doing something exciting. There is a new light behind her eyes and it is just making me feel more joy than she can ever imagine. While she might be annoying most of the time, I am so thrilled that she is finally allowing herself to grow as a person and not spend all of her energy on her family. It has been a long journey of self-discovery for my mom; she has gone from domestic supermom to domestic goddess throughout the process of writing. We are so very excited and proud of you! I love you as big as the world. -Bria and Tony
At first to all of the mafia romance lovers here, Monique Orgeron's books are a must-read. Her books are for adult audience and about adult protagonists. She's one of the authors that need more attention, because her books are unbelievable good.
I love this book ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ This book is an unbelievable gripping, heartbreaking and emotional mafia romance. It's a story about coming to terms with the past and trying to understand, forget and forgive the choices that were made in the past. It's a heartbreaking love story about the sacrifices that were made to keep and secure the legacy of the mafia families, for the future. This book describes the complicated and sometimes difficult to understand world where power and control is the most important part of the life and often decided about life and death. In this world love is a weakness and whoever shows weakness can't survive. So most mafia bosses, instead of choosing love, opt for arranged marriage for one or other reason and the consequences of it.
But what happens when the mafia boss is at the top, when he no longer needs arranged marriages and when he has the absolute power? Does he then, even if it is many years later, deserve the second chance?
This book is an emotional rollercoaster of feelings and heartbreaks, plagued by memories of lost opportunities and cruel unforgiving past. It's a second chance love story that gives you all the warm and heartwarming feelings, but also endless "hard to read about" emotions.
This book is part of a duet, but I recommend reading the whole Stern Family Saga to understand the background of this unbelievable gripping and suspenseful dark mafia story.
Y'all .... this book is everything. Second chance at love later in life. Life moved on for them both but their love has always been there. Richard & Cherry are beautiful and heartbreaking.
There is so much to say about this book. Cherry is a Boss. I want to be Cherry when I grow up. When she has to do something she absolutely does not want to she pulls up her big girl panties and gets to it. Richard tries his best to get to her. Gotta give the man credit he is persistent. When they both finally listen to other people and think fireworks. I have cursed, almost cried and wanted to throw my kindle reading this book. But a epic book and love story.
I just... I can't... Every time I pick up one of this authors books I'm transported to a world filled with greed and corruption, but also the truest purest love. She writes with the perfect dichotomy of good and bad, and I love that its gritty and real and there is pain and there is loss and bad things happen, and yet so do beautiful things, amazing things, redemption and problems get resolved and new problems emerge... She has completely captured life as we know it and can relate to it in our own hearts and stories and histories. Cherry and Richard's story is no exception. I didn't start out liking either of them in the previous books, but in this story, in THEIR story, I finally do love them both and get where they are coming from and why they've made the choices they made. Cherry is a riot and Richard has the whole silver fox thing going on, plenty of laughs and steam, but what kept me turning the pages was the emotional depth and growth and the whole, uncover the truth about this but then find out this other thing isn't what you thought. Seriously, its addicting so be sure to carve out some time to sit down and put everything else aside on the back burner because once you start you won't want to stop lol
Just when I think Monique has written my favorite book another one comes out and takes its place. This though by far is the best thing she has ever written. I have always wondered about Cherry and the life she lived and how Richard fit into her story. After all she doesn’t like him very much and is kind of mean. This book answers those questions and so much more. You finally see the true friendship between Margaret and Cherry and what lengths they go to for each other and add into the story their crazy adventures and they give Thelma and Louise a run for their money. Richard and Cherry are amazing together. The depths of the feelings for each other will have you asking yourself why have they been apart so long but both are stubborn and their back and forth will have you laughing at loud and then crying your eyes out because of the pain they both have been through. True love always wins but it will have you wondering what the heck did I just read. Bravo Monique you blew me away and blew this one out if the water.
Monique has done it again! The Harlot is a hilariously funny, steamy and totally relatable. These are the characters that we love and the characters that we love to hate. Cherry and Richard's story left me either laughing, crying (with a huge lump in my throat), or angry as all get out. Bravo Monique!! BRAVO!!!
I have read ALL of Ms. Oregeron's book. This is by far her best. The conversations between Cherry and Margaret are hilarious! Cherry and Richard's love story is heart wrenching. It's so hard not to give spoilers for this novel. This novel has twists and turns I didn't see coming. The ending is unexpected, but had to be written that way.
NEVER A DISAPPOINTMENT! Your books keep me on edge. I never know whether I'm going to cry or laugh next. And WTF the ending! I cannot wait to hear what happens with the next generation. Cord is definitely like his grandfather and I'm so dying right now wanting to know what you have up your sleeve.
Richard and Cherry's story has been 30 years in the making. This story made me laugh, made me an emotional wreck and just not sure how to go on after finishing their story.
Omg….. this is welcomed addition to the stern family saga… loved it from the first page to last, cherry’s a spitfire and Richard is a hard man this is a story you cannot miss out on, the emotions oh god the emotions…. And dang that ending! It’s a must read ❤️❤️
Bow down to Monique! She as out did it with The Harlot!
Cherry and Richard’s story! This story as everything you love about romance, there’s angst, there’s humor, there’s hot sexy parts and there is lots and lots of twists. From start to finish I was hooked and I found it hard to put the book down. There’s times I was laughing that I had tears then there’s time I had tears of sadness.
Monique is a master with words and knows how to draw you in and leaves you feeling like the story is part of you and your soul.
Mixed emotions? Yes! Steamy romance? Yes!! Hot alpha Hero? Yes!!! Equally hot badass heroine? Yes!!!! All you want in a book and more? Obviously yes!!!!!
The Harlot is EPIC! I’m speechless! This book is amazing. From the beginning to the very end (you NEED to read the epilogues) Wow Cherry and Richard’s love is wonderful, special, perfectly sexy and everything! I can’t tell more! You need to read it to know! I’m just gonna say “Monique you are AMAZING!”
Richard Shaw is an important man in Texas; he’s the equivalent of the Stern family in Louisiana, only his territory is one state over. He fell in love with Cherry years ago, and then broke her heart. All Cherry knows is that he broke her heart without fully understanding why, and she is still upset about it. When Catherine Stern insists that she go to Texas to try to win Richard’s heart back so that they can nullify a particular contract that affects her granddaughters, Cherry knows she will be the one to suffer. It takes her a while to get the nerve to confront Richard, but when she finally does work up the nerve, the game is on!
Cherry’s story is heartbreaking in places. She does what she has to do to help her family survive; unfortunately, they don’t care to understand her motivation and she is soon family-less. Ms. Orgeron writes this protagonist with so much compassion and care; it’s beautiful to read and tough to read at the same time. Readers will understand her motivation, her fear, her heartbreak, and her drive to keep from succumbing to the lure of Richard Shaw again. Yet, those same readers will cheer when she eventually learns everything behind the story of why Richard did what he did all those years before.
This book will make readers cheer in places, cringe in other places, and cry in yet other parts of the story. It’s incredible the way readers can feel Cherry’s struggles as they leap off of the page. Richard has his own struggles and heartbreak, but the story definitely focuses more on Cherry’s growth arc. I love the way this author weaves a story! Readers truly care what happens to each of her characters, and there is a lot of inter-connectedness to her stories! Read them all!!
YES!!...When they say 'everything is bigger in Texas' that's certainly the case when it comes to Richard Shaw or Big Dickie as I like to call him. With his sexy Texan drawl and dangerous vibe he's an intimidating powerhouse of a man who you will either love or hate. He's charasmatic, clever, calculating and utterly lethal. Always one step ahead of the game, Richard Shaw is the whole seductive package, but I do love a bad guy.
Cherry the sexy siren is a goddess, a loud mouthed opionated curvaceous vixen who I absolutely adored from the moment I first met her. Cherry just has a lure about her that draws you in. Cherry can hold her own with any powerful man and own them, she knows the game and always plays to the best of her abilities. Cherry has always guarded herself and her heart but a part of it has always belonged to one man....Richard Shaw.
Some things are just meant to be and Richard and Cherry's story was meant to be told. I loved every heart breaking emotional moment. Their history, connection and passion was so intense and captivating. They wasted so many years apart but they finally get there and love each other with everything they have. They have an epic love that spans decades, as they finally move on from their complicated pasts and start over.
I NEVER saw the ending coming, but I understood why it had to happen. I'm looking forward to what's instore next, things are going to get ugly that's for sure....bring it on. 👏
I just cant. Of course this was a gut wrenching emotional read. It kept you reading and it was very well written. All about second chances and I get it. But a part of me just wants to say no to it.
I just wanted Richard not to get Cherry. He was greedy and manipulative for his own gain, I don’t buy his dedication to the town or his motives for his family, I just don’t. He continuously manipulated her and so did everyone else. Cherry was a door stop for everyone. If love was everything to Richard he wouldn’t have done what he did. He would have come for her sooner, made up for everything sooner, and never had an affair with Catherine. On top of that Ms. Manipulative herself, Catherine as always has to ruin everything. She always does.
Cherry always gets screwed and my heart breaks for her. She never can find happiness it’s always ripped from her, and she out of all the characters should have been able to keep it always. I love Cherry’s character and the whole story from start to finish is unfair to her in so many ways. I don’t care if it was a plot point for the future. It should not have been at Cherry’s expense. There had to be another way.
I love this series and love this author, but the drama at times goes too far, the suffering goes too far, and the manipulation of others goes too far and I can’t love the stories like I used to. I will read more but my expectations will be much lower.
Monique. Freaking. Orgeron. I know you are reading this. So, I hate you. Okay, I don't really hate you. But I do just for this book.
I'm not going to spoil this one for anyone. It's too important. But read the whole book. The entire book and then start hating Monique along with the rest of us.
Cherry is not your every day bring home to Momma lady. In fact, she's anything but. She's lived a hard life but she's fought for every step of the way.
She's loved two men in her life. But she's done with love. She's never looking back. In fact, a new life altering event made that decision for her. That is until Catherine sends her on a mission.
Enter Richard Shaw. The Boss of Texas. The man who saved her and ruined her so long ago.
The Harlot is a book about mafia bosses, love, hate, death, war and everything in between. I didn't cry (I almost did at the end, but I stayed strong). You will feel all of the emotions (especially in the steamy scenes): anger, suspense, loyalty, forgiveness, regret, heartache, hatred, (at Monique, LOL) and out right longing.
If you haven't already fallen in love with the Sterns and every character that comes into their lives, you will. Get some box wine and dig in...there's tons of emotions ready for you to encounter.
I say this about every Book Monique writes, She makes me Bipolar with her words,, I get every feeling known to exist, you'll go from Laughing, to crying, to yelling, the second scenes were HOT, then you go straight back to laughing again This book was a page turner. I wanted to finish it fast, but let me tell you The ending is extraordinary EPIC!!! You won't be disappointed. I warn you she extracts your feeling in every way, but it's in a good way!
Cherry and Margaret are the best of friends, it makes you feel like you are in their world and watching it all go down, you will laugh at their witty antics, feel their pain, and want to just hug them both. You will get a kick out of Marcus and Richard's dealings, how they act with the women, even though they have issues on both ends.
The books in this series The Lady and The Harlot are comedy, love, romance, exciting and ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!!
Trust me when I say you will enjoy this book and all of Moniques books. I started with The Stern Saga and have ready every book she has written, they all are Epic in their own way, but this book Has the most, shockingly Epic Ending thus far!!!
I always struggle to write a review without spoilers on Monique’s books. Let me try to keep and short & sweet: Cherry & Richard Shaw… their story was an emotional rollercoaster. Margaret & Cherry’s friendship is one I hope all women have a chance to experience. Those two are the best pair & I can never grow tired of reading about them. I laughed, I almost cried, came close to passing out from holding my breath, I cussed, I swooned… it’s all in there!! I was hooked from page one and couldn’t put it down until the very end. Another fabulous 5 stars and more, Darlin’! This one has given me a hangover worse than cheap tequila!
**Although this can be read as a standalone, I highly suggest ready “The Lady” prior to this just so you can get a little more history. If for some reason, you’ve never read any of Monique’s books, do yourself a favor and start with “Art of Seduction”.. you can think me later.
This book had me in my feelings; both characters are star-crossed lovers. it took them almost a decade to get their happy ending. Not gonna lie, I hate the male character with a passion he's not redeemable in my eyes for the things he's had done but you can also feel his love for Cherry and the pain in this book were alive, I've felt every anguish emotion they were feeling. It took me a while, but as I read the book, I realized the love, the friendship is mind-blowing, I laugh, I was sadden and I was seething. Author Monique Orgeron gutted me in this book, but I couldn’t help it but be happy at the same time. This was a magnificent read🖤🖤🖤
Well....what can I say, I always think I'm ready for whatever Monique has planned to throw at us, her readers. Just like every other time, I was so not ready. I wasn't even close. I know when I start reading one of Monique's books I need my emergency self care kit, which includes kleenex, a cuss pillow and lots of coffee. Once I start I won't stop until I am finished. I always say this is my favorite book, and it is. It stays that until I read the next book. I admit I was not a fan of Richard, it was from his appearance in previous books. But like always my opinions change. I love him. Cherry, now she has been a secret favorite of mine. I am still absorbing this book. Remember to have your tissues!!
So all of Monique's book are must reads and this one is amazing! I loved that it focused more of their past, present and the beautiful future they shared. It wasn't about the sex with this book, it was more about making amends and showing their love was strong. If you've read the other books then you know some of Cherry and Richard's story. I loved the road trip with her and Margaret! I laughed so hard at the scenes of them two together! Cherry had a mission and she fulfilled it but it came at making peace and healing from the past. I wasn't crazy about a certain scene near the end but I won't hold it against the author to much...still didn't shock the crap out of me!! This was an incredible book!
I love Cherry and Margaret's friendship! I think every woman needs a Cherry and a Margaret in their life. Cherry broke my heart over and over with her and Richard's story. Tilly is a great side character, I loved her! Margaret dictating terms to Richard?? Priceless!!! I am not a Richard fan. I haven't been since his first appearance and this book didn't help. I totally appreciate their love story and I loved all the sass that Cherry through his way. That ending though . . . . you knew when the girls were on face time together that their conversation was going to be overheard. I cannot wait for the next generation of Sterns/Shaws. S*&t is about to get real!!!!!
The friendship Margaret has with Cherry is one every woman should have with a friend. I felt bad for Cherry throughout the whole story. I felt like no matter how hard she tried she got the short end of the stick. I could feel how much she loved & cared for Richard. Richard meant well but I don't agree with all the choices he made. Richard made a few more mistakes that if it was me I don't feel I could forgive as well as Cherry did . I enjoyed the book for the most part. I felt there was so much that should have been said sooner . I felt sometimes the story felt a bit drawn out. I will look forward to Cord book though.
This is the story of Cherry and Richard. Their past history was completely unexpected, though fun, and also so very sad. He is such a strong, virile, alpha character! And she is so sassy and feisty. She’s awesome. I didn’t really care for him in previous books, and he was so cocky and infuriating in this one until he finally saw some sense. I loved it! I love them together, and love Margaret and Cherry as besties!! But in the end Monique just made me cry so much, she also made me hate her for a little bit. I still love her, though, and am dying for her to write about the next generation.
Well Thelma and Louise pale into insignificance when it come to Margaret and Cherry. What a pair these two ladies are. They’re beautiful, rich, feisty and definitely a force to be reckoned with. Not only did I laugh at their antics but but felt the love , heartache and regret. It was going to be a tall order for Cherry to face Richard because of their past. Was it possible that he still wanted her or she wanted him and could past events ever be forgotten or put right?. The only way to find out is to read this amazing story !. I loved it!!!
You can't go wrong with this book. Honestly, you need to read ALL of Monique's books. She's a fabulous writer and I'm so glad I came across her books!! This duet has been one of my faves with its Thelma and Louise vibe between the 2 main characters! I have my own Thelma in my life and we both have read all of Monique's books!! There's passion, friendship, laughter, surprises, drama and you will feel every emotion while reading it!! You may cuss her out (lol) but you will ultimately love her for it!
Cherry and Richard's story will take you on a very emotional, page turning, heartbreaking, laugh out loud, cry your heart book. These two have a history that they give you a look at and each new piece that is revealed will have you on 3dge wanting to know more. I was pulled right into their book and I didn't want it to end. This book has it all and you won't be disappointed, but the ending will completely and totally blow your mind and you have you wanting more and more. I so can't wait to read what this author has next.
Thelma and Louise, Lucy and Ethel, Laverne and Shirley, Margaret and Cherry all great women living their lives to the fullest and well except the dramatic ending the Thelma and Louise. This book say yes there is life after you raise your children and move on. Older women are sexy too. I lived the story and the visiting of old friends. This story was another example of Monique’s masterful writing. She is a mistress of twist and turns that tug on your emotions and takes you from laughing to crying in no time flat.
Book 2 in the duet, The Harlot is the story of Cherry and Texas. Not a story for the faint of heart but for those that love mafia and dark twisty storylines. A second chance love story with a complex story of friendship, struggles and a rich backstory of those you both love and hate. I’ve been reading Monique Orgeron since her very first book and I can only say that she delivers a better and greater read each time. Highly recommended!!
