The liberal new American pope who loves everyone is actually a horny tool of the Devil who plans to bring about the apocalypse. A lot of snakes jump out and bite people in the face. Most likely written by a frustrated cardinal passed over for the big chair.

Grabbing this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. Nowadays, you pretty much only find this sitting around in secondhand stores or the bottom of Aunti Tillie's giveaway box.

If you find it, do not let it pass by. The prose alone is worth the read. Without going into it too much, I can only say that it's dark enough to get under my skin, make it hard for me to sleep. That, I can assure you, takes a lot. I read Stephen King in fifth grade with no adverse effects, but this book was severly dark, and that's jsut the way it should be.

Again: don't let it pass you by. When and if the opportunity arises to grab this book, do it fervently and never let it go after that.

For the supernatural and fantasy fan, it quenches a thirst you my not know about. A warning, though--don't let your children read this book.

There’s definitely an underlying unease as your reading this. Certainly, Zodrow knows how to create mood and atmosphere. Unfortunately, that in and of itself is not enough to hold a story that you’ve heard a thousand times over together. The end is a letdown too. Kinda feels like he ran out of steam with ideas and wrote an unfulfilling ending to just wrap it up.

Fun little pulp horror from 1980 that distinguishes itself from the pack by actually being really well-written. Zodrow seems knowledgeable enough about the papacy and Conclave tradition to make this feel somewhat realistic even while characters are getting killed by flying soccer balls and snakes hidden inside suitcases. It gets pretty wacky but occasionally loses itself in long, dull sections where our main character discovers water in different locations. Still, better than it should be!

This is a well written, tight fast read. Good grade B horror from the early 80s. A young boy adopted at an early age basically into the church becomes a priest. Is he possessed by a demon or a good heart? Read it to find out! 3.5 stars.

This was a great read. Not much happens but the build up to the climax of the demons plan was really well done and I enjoy novels set in the world of the church
