Life has its own ways in guiding us through our journey & this novel is just one of those times .
- the theme : a historical Islamic novel , more of history lesson of a specific time !
- in this novel we follow the story of 3 different cultures ( Muslims and Catholics and Hindus ) how each of them sees that time from his point of view, this novels take us between the battles in the sea & the politics in the land, the loyalty & the betraying, the leaders & the kings, the love & the patriotism, & the most important part of it all, its a story of a fight between a person & his demons .
- the book is 400 page , not so long & not a short one either, the build up was great we got into the story & started living the journey with out characters , the excitement & the wait was good but it didn't keep us that way in the final chapters .
- we have lot of characters or maybe the old names make it feel like hard to remember but unlike other novels we're not into one specific character & cheering up for him to be a hero & beat everyone , which is a good thing in a way .
- if we have to mention some dislikes, the top of it would be the ending, its more of a history lesson & not a novel, also maybe the part where we focus on the Portuguese side more than than we did with the Islamic side, it also feels like we waited for " youness " to do something for too long .
As always the author is giving us a great work, and we only expect better from him which will get us to criticize & that's nothing but a good sign that we as readers of his books are thirsty for more of his work .
as a recommendation : "Bari", "Stay alive" are slightly better than this one.
