The core of the book features large, detailed photographs of single objects, many of them small enough to be held in the hand, that each speak volumes about an aspect of Earth's environments and how they work. Lavishly illustrated, this book describes the science behind the evolution of the Earth from origination up to the influence of humans. It looks at geology, biology, plate tectonics, evolution, etc, etc, but all laid out in a readable and interesting format, without getting too technical. There are lots of diagrams, photographs and drawings, all with good explanations. There is a huge amount of information in this book. You can read it straight through like I did, or just dip into the sections that interest you the most. There are lots of references to linked sections within the book, and a glossary of terms and an index.
