הספר מלך החומוס ומלכת האמבטיה מספר על בחור צעיר, אשר מתאהב בבחורה שמשנה לו את החיים. הוא רגיל להיות איש מסיבות, אחד כזה שמזייין כל מה שזז ומדלג בין בחורה לבחורה, אך לבסוף מתאה. ההחורה נאה ואיתה הוא נוסע לגור ולחיות בארצות הברית. שם השניים עוברים חוויות מסעירות, אורגיות, מסיבות וכל דבר, אשר מאפיין את תקופה גיל ה-20 בקרב נערי הארץ. חוויות אלו מותירות אותו בסופו של דבר לבדו. לוקח לו זמן להתאקלם ולהתגבר על אהבתו, אשר עזבה אותו. הספר מתאר את התקופה שבה חיו הזוג ועד לפרידתם.

A manifest of bad misogyny and cheap literature.

It’s one of those books you read in your late teens just to grow up and regret it. In a way though, I must admit it did capture a certain vibe which flowed in the Israeli young subculture of the early 2000’s, and man, I sure do hope we’ve grew up since then.

I liked Ilans first book, "Wisdom of the pretzel".
This books Hebrew name is "The king of humus and the queen of the bath tub",
but the English name "Just a Bit More" is a well chosen name because basically, it is pretty much more of the same.

ספר קליל, ישראלי, טיפוסי...
אהבתי מאד, הסיפור קליל, כייפי וזורם מאד על זוג ישראלים שמכירים וחיים בניו יורק.

מומלץ בחום להעביר כמה שעות איתו, כתיבה קלילה וכייפית :-)

אם אני אעמוד מתחת לחופה עם גבר, ופתאום הוא דופק לי ״׳מלך החומוס ומלכת האמבטיה׳ זה הספר האהוב עליי״, אני משאירה אותו שמה ובורחת לקצה השני של העולם.
סורי אבל זה ספר שרק בחורות יכולות להנות ממנו, אם אתה זכר ואהבת את הספר הזה אתה רד פלאג מהלך. צריך להפיץ את זה ברבים כדי שבחורות יזהרו ממקרים קשים של גברים עם נרקיסיזם קשה, שמנופוביה, הומופוביה, טרנספוביה, ואיך לא - גזענות.

הגיבור הראשי שלנו הוא בחור רדוד שיקרא לך פרה אם את מעל 50 קילו ורואה את כל הבחורות בעולם כקלפי כדורגל שאפשר לאסוף. אם פילי (מלכת האמבטיה) הייתה שוקלת 10 קילו יותר הוא לא היה יורק לכיוון שלה. שלא תחשבו לשנייה שהוא מתבייש בזה כי הוא גאה בזה לגמרי ומוכיח את זה שוב ושוב במהלך הספר.

ואל תקראו לי מפגרת אני יודעת שזה בכוונה, אבל האם אפשר להשתמש בזה כתירוץ לכתוב ספרות זולה? לאדעת

ובכל זאת, סגנון הכתיבה הזה כיפי וממכר, מוציא אותך מהעולם של הספרות היפה. ספר שנותן תחושה ישראלית אפילו שהוא מתרחש באמריקה ומדבר אלייך בגובה העיניים. החיבור של הראשיים ריגש אותי ולמרות שלכלכתי על אמיר, לפעמים היו לו תובנות יפות שהיה כיף לקרוא.

בקיצור, נכנסתי לספר הזה עם צפייה אחת (נטו קראתי את המאחורה וחשבתי שזה יהיה ספר חמוד, אבל המאחורה לא תואם את התוכן). התאוששתי מההלם ורק אז התחלתי להנות מהסיפור.

The book started with a lot of promise - smooth writing, pleasant humor, and characters that, at first, were still easy to connect with. But the moment the couple broke up, the entire plot simply fell apart. Instead of mature or emotional development, I got a hesitant stream of thoughts and behaviors that felt more like the diary of a confused teenager than an adult novel.

The writing, which was sharp and precise in the beginning, suddenly turned unfocused and almost childish, as if the author switched genres, styles, and even levels of maturity halfway through. It felt like everything built in the first part was tossed aside - replaced by unnecessary drama, unbelievable decisions, and dialogues that read like a draft that never went through proper editing.

In the end, instead of a moving or meaningful story, I got a book that starts out promising but ends up simply disappointing. Its second half feels rushed, thoughtless, and disconnected from the very characters it introduced so well at the start.

A shame - this could have been an excellent book, but it ultimately leaves a strong sense of missed potential.

This is the first Hebrew language book I've read cover to cover since early college and I am very proud that I was able to get through it quite easily. The book was an absolute joy to read and was perfect for where I am in life right now. The story is tragically sad overall but has moments of inspiration. The characters and writing are excellent, and best of all, it is literally laugh out loud funny. It felt very much like a combination of Jonathan Tropper and Haruki Murakami. Tropperesque in that there were hilariously ridiculous sexual scenes and slapstick elements and Murakamiesque in that he captures the psyche and outlook of man in a late-twenties that feels anguish, disconnectedness, and melancholy.

I found it very absurd that I would like the book. But after reading it, I found something that was missing from me. The Israelites culture. Perspective of other adults. And what really matters is the little things in life.

הספרים האחרים שלו יותר טובים אם אתם בקטע של גסויות וסצנות סקס. הרומן הזה יותר רומנטי ורך. התבאסתי כי ציפיתי לגרסה יותר צעירה של האידיוט המושלם אבל היה נחמד לראות גם דמות אחרת. בכל מקרה 20 עמודים אחרונים שווים זהב, שאר הספר דיי משעמם.

He is the king of hummus (a Levantine food dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic), she is the queen of the bathtub (a large container for holding water in which a person may bathe).

They are so diffrent and yet so much alike. They dont get along at first and even hate eachother, but then they do get along. Can this lonley souls make it in the big world? Can their love last?
