This is the second instalment in the Wonderscape series.

The trio who centred in the first book in this series accidentally find themselves returning to both the future and the virtual world crafted there. Another set of trials appears before them and if they fail in the completion of any then their demise is soon promised.

I love the challenges that feature throughout this and how they continually spur the pacing and alter the setting of the story. Well-known historical or legendary places and figures appear, which made this both an exciting and educational read.

The cast proved just as lovable as in book one and it was a joy to witness their individual characters grow and adapt as their adventures challenged them in different ways.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, Jennifer Bell, and the publisher, Walker Books, for this opportunity.

I love this fantastically imaginative and fun series of science fictional MG adventures! Legendarium sends Arthur, Cecily, Ren, and (of course!) their truly wonderful robo-dog, Cloud, hurtling into another set of futuristic challenges, this time themed around famous legends from history (and from outer space, too!) and brings them all even closer together while also heightening the peril. I love the dynamic among their group, all four main characters (including Cloud!) are just fantastic, and I really loved watching them use their wits to solve each dangerous puzzle. I devoured my e-ARC on my own, but I can't wait to share it with my kids next - they loved Wonderscape, the first book in this series, and I know they'll love this one, too.

Ocena: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When I initially read WONDERSCAPE, a sequel (as far as I was aware) hadn't been announced, but it looks like it had sold well enough to merit one - for which I am so glad. These books are just oodles of fun, where kids get sucked through time into the future where video games have become real life events spread across the galaxy.

This time around, the three friends are sucked even further forward in time, where they are now (mysterious) legends and have to enter a tournament in order to regain the key to get home. The tournament really helped this book feel different, given the fact of how they ended up in the future and the goal of getting home are virtually the same across the two books. Rather than trying to stay out of the spotlight and uncover corporate secrets, they have to compete to keep getting through rounds while trying to uncover who is subverting it all, using it as a cover for their black market enterprises.

There's still the fun gaming feel to it all, with the mini-quest for each "level" of the tournament, but not all are as you might expect. The world itself is inspired by legends, rather than historical figures. We have outlaws, pirates, vikings, hidden temples, and more! The premise is so much fun and it does feel like falling into games, that feeling of worlds spreading far beyond this quest. If the kids weren't on time challenges, it felt like they could have wandered for months on little side quests.

We have another ticking clock for the kids to get home or die, which lends itself to another snappy read, packing a lot of punch and adventure into an even shorter book this time. I gobbled this down in an evening, a bundle of escapist fun.

I have no idea if there'll be another book. The ending feels like it's closing out some elements of the world, and I'm not entirely sure if the series could take another entry, given they'd have to go into the future again again. It would be fun, but I think the reason behind going would have to be pretty solid to not feel repetitive.

1. Jennifer Bell’s Wonderscape (book 1)
2. Jamie Littler’s Frostheart
3. Vashti Hardy’s Brightstorm (on my TBR!)

After surviving the Wonderscape, Arthur, Cecily, and Ren are content with a far less dangerous summer holiday in the 21st century. The three friends and their mimic dog, Cloud – a gift from a brilliant inventor in the 25th century – are enjoying a picnic when a mysterious mist encircles them. In the next instant, our young heroes find themselves once again in a time other than their own. And the only way they have a chance of returning home is if the foursome enters a dangerous tournament called Legendarium. In this sequel, the riddles are ever more cryptic, the villains are far harder to uncover, and the landscapes are breath-taking…but also deadly.

Jennifer Bell has done it again! Found friendships continue to grow, and the challenges these characters face teach them about history but also about themselves. This middle grade adventure novel mirrors its predecessor, but rather than focusing on historical figures, Bell introduces legends from all over the world. The diversity runs deep and we love to see it, from the protagonists’ own backgrounds to the myths and legends they encounter.

The pacing of this novel is amazing. I was on the edge of my seat while also never feeling rushed. (Although, I didn’t want the narrative to end!) And each new quest is believable in its difficulty and eventual solution. I admire that one conflict within the story is that our young protagonists are competing against adults. While others doubt their abilities because of their youth, Arthur, Cecily, and Ren prove time and time again that they should not be underestimated.

I also loved the many callbacks to Wonderscape. Milo Hertz makes an appearance as does a hero the team hadn’t met before. Cloud remains a lovely source of comic relief and comfort when the protagonists need something furry to hug. While these characters are no longer strangers but friends, they are still learning about each other’s insecurities and strengths. Their support for one another is heart-warming, and I cannot wait to see it deepen in the future.

The only question I have is: When can we expect book 3?

This was so much fun. It's like a children's version of Ready Player One, mixed with a less dangerous Jumanji. If that's not a winning combination, I don't know what is!

I'm going to embarrass myself here by admitting that I actually was about a quarter of the way through this story before I realised it was actually a sequel but my only regret about that is that I've missed out on a previous adventure, because it didn't detract from the story one bit.

Three friends are able to travel through time - forwards luckily - and they now find themselves faced within a video game of sorts, in which they need to enter a tournament to find their way home (there's just no need to shout "Jumanji" at the end). The video game feel is very much at the forefront of the story, with lots of mini-quests and adventures all in the hopes of finding the key they need to escape. There are a whole host of characters throughout, from vikings to crazy outlaws, and the world building subsequently is much greater than I expected it would be for a middle-grade book.

Imaginative, fun and a super quick read.

Jennifer Bell to jedna z moich ulubionych pisarek. Jej "Niezwyczajni" to trylogia fantasy mojego dzieciństwa. A "Legendarium" to jej najnowsza książka kontynuująca historię z "Wonderscape".

Jednakże pomimo to Jennifer Bell dalej była w stanie uczynić go świeżym i zaangażować mnie w historię.

Artur to chyba mój ulubiony. Chyba. Jest jeszcze Ren. I Cecily.

4,5/5 z zaokrągleniem do 4. Dalej lubię tą pisarkę!

I believe that this writer is really talented.
I’ve got to admit, though, that I did not enjoy this book.

Most of me not enjoying it is my own fault. I don’t really enjoy futuristic books which is what this book is all about. Also, this is book 2 out of the series. Book 1 (Wonderscape) is a book I read years ago. To understand this one, you’ve got to read them both back to back. I didn’t like that because I couldn’t remember what happened at all in the Wonderscape. It was super hard to follow as a result.

This book was really predictable and the chapters were too long. Every time I wanted to read, I wouldn’t want to pick this book up which put me off. Books should keep you guessing and you should look forward to reading them instead of wanting to get them over with.

As I say, she’s an amazing writer but this book was just not for me.

I haven't read the first book, but I really enjoyed this one anyway. It was easy to get in to, and you feel like you already know the characters right from the start.

Ren, Cecilly, Arthur and Cloud the mimic dog get sucked through a portal to the future and end up in Legendarium, where they have to go through a series of quests in order to find the device that will take them back to their own time.

There's plenty of adventure and tension, and the characters' friendship grows as they help and support each other. A great story for older children (and adults!). Highly recommend.

A fun read full of adventure and action. Ren, Cecily, Cloud, and Arthur are pulled back into the future again, this time a bit further though. They end up in a tournament for a new kind of gaming experience where you are placed into a legend of old and have to battle other teams to get the pieces of Irontide armour to stay in it. They are racing the clock to get back to their own time before they are slime while trying to find the new time key that another competitor possibly has but who? I enjoyed the backdrop in this book and the vivid detail put into the setting. The stadium and hotel especially. The different legends they are out into are fun as well and there is lots of action and peril as they fight to make it through to the next level. There’s a surprise twist and battles with Vikings and Pirates, what else could you want!? I would definitely recommend this series and hope there will be more.

I got assigned this book for my juvenile literature class and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. There are a lot of legends being talked about in the book, it was very fun learning all about them. I actually got invested in the legends and had to look them up. I think the book is written perfectly for the target audience. I would love to give this book to my kids in the future or any kids that I know. I think it'd really help encourage them to learn about the legends and pay more attention to their history.

Somewhat repetitive after Wonderscape, which I preferred. This time the game focused on legends rather than historical figures. I feel like some parts felt rushed and convenient. Some levels would take a whole or two chapters, while in others they seemed to solve the legend in half a page. Overall still really like the idea of the kids being sucked in a game and still worth reading if you loved Wonderscape.

This book had some BIG shoes to fill after Wonderscape. It didn't disappoint! It was funny and heartfelt, including everything I loved from the first book. It kept me guessing and the plot twist and reveal at the end surprised me the way a well-written twist does. The ending had me in tears and I hope for a third book now because I do not accept this (if you've read the book you know what I mean).

I loved this book. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I had never read a book by Jennifer Bell. The premise of the book was very interesting and unique, reminding me of The Eyre Affair. The book was very well written and I struggled to put the book down. I have since read the sequel book. Would definitely read more books by Jennifer Bell in the future.

Not as amazing as the first book in the series but still pretty good, entertaining and fast-paced. I enjoyed the concept of the virtual reality with games inside it. This time there are legends in Legendarium. For me personally it wasn’t as exciting and full of adventure as the first book, where we meet many heroes like Isaac Newton and found ourselves travelling through amazing landscapes.

I am sorry to say that I find this book absolutely boring and the message of the story is very cliche. I got assigned to read this book as a part of Juvenile Literature class so I finished it anyway. I’ve read other good comments about this. Maybe it’s just I am not the right reader for this book. It’s just not my style.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to 9+. It is the sequel to Wonderscape and they are two of my all time favourite books. If you like video games, adventure and history then these books are perfect! Enjoy reading!

Not much I can say. Just not for me but hopefully there are kids who like modern references that will enjoy this.

Also was unclear that it was a sequel and now I'll have to try to buy the first one, so that's a bit annoying.

I received this book from the publisher, via Net Galley, in exchange for an honest review.

i loved book one of this, but am fairly sure it was intended as a standalone, so when I found out about Legendarium, I was excited but apprehensive. Well, I need not have worried, the set-up here landed us straight back in the action in a way that worked and gave us all sorts of fun.

There was less learning about past historical figures, which made sense with the plot but I was a little sad about it as I loved that in the first book. But this time we got lots of great puzzle solving, and fun new toys for our heroes to play with.

I also feel tournaments are hard to write and Bell did an amazing job of keeping the action going without allowing it to get repetitive.

4 stars.

Following the events of Wonderscape, Arthur, Ren and Cecily had thought their lives were back to normal…except for Cloud their mysterious dog (well not really a dog). But when Cloud disappears through a portal, the friends have no choice but to follow him into another adventure. Arthur, Ren and Cecily end up in Legendarium in the year 2493 and unfortunately, secretive villain Deadlock gets hold of their time key! To save the universe, and themselves, they must enter the Irontide Tournament (a real life esports game) where legends are real and their lives are at stake.

Wonderscape was one of the first books I read when I was really getting into reading children’s books again and I loved the fabulous theme, so I knew Legendarium would be an absolute winner too. Most kids I know (or at least most of my class) love video games and so reading a book where the characters are playing through a video game will most certainly appeal to them – how could it not! Legendarium has a fast paced dynamic plot with twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. I enjoyed the trials sort of separating the book into sections, like levels in a video game. The theme of myths and legends was interesting and could spur interest in reading about the real life legends that they relate to.

All three heroes are important within the group, but I must say I still love Cloud and his mysterious abilities (sucker for an animal sidekick!). The added dynamic between other competitors and the heroes within the Legendarium made for some interesting characters, but I don’t want to give away too much about any of them! Let’s just say, no one is quite what you expect!

Absolutely heaps of fun in this fast paced thrilling novel! 5 out of 5 stars.

Thank you to Walker Books and NetGalley for this e-book review copy.
