Divorced. Beaten down. A failure. Until a ray of sunshine comes into my life...

People call me Mr. Grumpypants, but wouldn't you be if life kept knocking you down?

My life is an endless sh*t list that I can't even begin to unravel.

It started when my wife walked out on me.

It continued when my home was repossessed.

And it all came to an epic conclusion with almost getting shot

Before you start Mother Parker, pick up the YBBB freebie Forever Asher first and give that a quick read.

Although Mother Parker could technically be read as a standalone, for context and some of the side characters, you'll want that background. I read it first and I'm glad I did.

This had a sexuality awakening, grumpy/sunshine, close proximity and a dash of danger with a protection racket.

With the dual pov it was easy to fall in love with Parker, he doesn't mean to be such a grump but he's had

DNF.. Who the hell could stand that hysterical douchebag Parker?

This book was really just a lot of fun to read!

I don't believe that this series is intended to be taken too seriously. As per the prequel, although there is a suspense/mystery theme, it plays second to the relationships between the characters. Not just the romantic relationship between Hwan and Parker, but between all the cast members that create a found family on the island.

This is not a series where I'm looking for hidden meanings, heavy content, an exploration of stereotypes or the human cond

Hwan is living his dream. He’s opened his own Boba shop and life is good, even if it is a bit lonely. He has his grandma and his trio of crows. He is having issues with things going wrong in his shop. He also has the most annoying man in the world as a bodyguard, as if he really needs one.

Parker is a grumpy gus. Life hasn’t been nice to him. He moves to an island because his old boss asked him to. He’s looking towards his next job with trepidation. Fortunately for him, his babysitting gig turns

Okay, new series! Protector, opposites, Navy SEALs? Why would I turn this down?

Nay… I didn’t….

Okay, so… Parker, nicknamed by his own sister, Officer Grumpypants, or something silly but accurate, was really hard for me to like. I didn’t for a good bit of this book, I’ll be honest.
It was almost like he took douchey-ness to extra douchy-ness… but he grew on me.
He grew on me mostly because I liked how he eventually was with Hwan.

Hwan… I loved immediately. He’s the sun to Parker’s gloom, living

New series, new fictional island, the same Rhys Everly’s guaranteed good time!
Fresh new series, set in a fictional island in Massachusetts, ridden with crime but with a strong community and a bunch of ex-SEALs that have taken residency there and are determined to clean up the place… and find their HEA while they are at it!
Our ex- SEAL Parker has been straight (!?!) all his life, and he’s so grumpy his own sister has nicknamed him Officer Grumpypants! Until he meets the sunshine-y, super cute, bu

We start out with Parker who has been having a time of it lately with well, everything! He is in Mayberry now trying to start over. Loved his first encounter with absolutely adorable Hwan! This story instantly had me wanting so much love for both of these guys! Yes, Parker was grumpy but for realistic reasons, so I enjoyed his thoughts and reactions to sparkly happy Hwan. I enjoyed watching their banter and oppositeness bring them together. Hwan will make you feel so happy and smiley inside beca ...more

Mother Parker is an excellent read, one of those that you’ll want to cozy up with a coffee/tea and read nonstop. Parker is the perfect grumpy to Hwan’s sunshine! Parker feels like a failure, he’s come to Mayberry Holm to start over. Hwan is sweet, pure shine with an outrageous bubbly personality. He doesn’t let anything get him down. When his new bubble tea shop is victimized, Parker steps in to help. I loved Hwan, seriously adored him! I just wanted to smack Parker at times, he was sooo freakin ...more

This was a good start to a new series with ex military men and an island of locals just loving life, and bubble tea of course. For the most part I enjoyed this read and I do think I'll continue with the series. Mainly because who it is about intrigues me. Mother Parker had some really good and sweet moments while some moments threw me a bit. I liked the characters and their connection and maybe it was just the way some scenes were set up or not for that matter, that had me having a little troubl ...more

Mother Parker , a new contemporary suspense romance novel and first in a new series by Rhys Everly, gave me several aspects I liked about the story and several I thought about that made me think potentially this was not going to be a series for me.

The aspects I liked about it was the multiculturalism. Hwan and his Halmeoni, grandmother in Korean, are the the more interesting and layered characters here. Every part of their in
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.

What this is, right, is a whole lotta warm and fuzzies, with a side of too stinking cute all poured into a gallon of bubble tea that makes me wanna go right out and try some of the combinations here, cos I never did before!

Just like I never did a Rhys Everly book and I'm so sorry that it's taken me this long to actualy read cos this was so bloody good!

I read, right before this one, a very dark and deadly book, and

A good start to a new series from this author. I like the premise of Navy SEALS retiring to an island but to make it safe again, adds a bit of a danger element.
Parker moves there after the end of his marriage, feeling very down on his luck and low in general, hoping to help his friends out and pick himself up. Hwan is someone he could have never foreseen coming his way, styled with his colourful wigs and love for his bubble tea shop. It took me a while to warm up to Parker. I think he's just bec

The premise of this story was promising and I thought I’d like it - it seemed to be on the sweet side with a little action / mystery going on, but I ended up struggling quite a bit with this one.

This was a confusing read for me, it really felt like I got thrown into the middle of a series. Characters appeared without proper introductions, the island is apparently riddled with crime but there’s no background provided, and there was very little info on Parker’s time as a SEAL or his family. Felt like I was propelled into an established world

My first Rhys Everly book and it was a bit like the Twilight Zone. Bombarded with characters that I felt I ought to already know, a world where so much was mentioned but no explanation given (again as though it had already been established that the characters were a covert crime fighting force to combat all the criminal activities on the island that I had no knowledge of), I was swimming against the tide from the beginning.

Nice story. Parker, is having a very bad year. Like, if it can go wrong, it does in spades! Like, how much can one person take and still stay sane? How can a person, not feel grumpy when the only luck, is bad luck? He turns to his old SEAL's boss, Wyatt for help finding a job. Hwan, recently opened his lifelong dream, a bubble tea shop. Blanche, Sophia and Rose, the crows that adoped him and his GrandMa, Halmeoni, are a hoot! Hwan is a bit lonely as the only Korean gay man on the island. The Com ...more

I enjoyed this sweet, low angst, opposites attract story. The characters hooked me in immediately, I loved the setting and set-up, and I’m looking forward to more books in the series.

Mayberry Holm is a character in its own right. The island is an interesting place full of quirky characters and very easy to visualise. I loved that a group of retired SEALs have settled there, and how their friendships and relationships are already changing and growing.

Poor Parker thinks he’s unlovable although he

🌈Good story, fun characters & some danger to spice things up!

4-4.5🌟 stars
This MM opposites attract romance had a number of elements that I really liked, including:

A sense of humor (I mean, a lovable lead who's adopted by crows that he decides to name after the Golden Girls and a bad cook who assumes practice makes perfect, despite plenty of proof to the contrary!😏);

A bit of adversity and skullduggery with a mystery to solve related to local crime and incidents aimed at Hwan's bubble tea shop;

This book includes one of the grumpiest characters I have ever met in a book that was as light as this book. But somehow, Rhys Everly made it work. Well, Hwan made it work, but the author has to get some kind of credit, right? Ha!

To be fair to Parker, he has reasons behind why he's so grumpy, but his character is one that is going to have to grow on you unless you are an empathic person by nature. Show him some patience and you will see the man that his siblings and friends do. Have a little fa

I always love a good opposites attract book. Expecially when it’s grumpy/sunshine. And I really loved how it was done in this book. These two characters were just super nicely fleshed out and they ended up really complimenting each other. They relationship and how they were developed made it sound like they were perfect for each other and I really enjoyed that.

Also, I really enjoyed the relationship in this book. It was super cute and the characters had really good chemistry and a good

This is a new series by Rhys Everly and it's a great beginning. It is the first book; however, I do recommend reading the novella Forever Asher since it sets up this series. There's humor, action/suspense, interesting and well developed characters, and steam.
I'm not gonna lie, it did take me a bit to warm up to Parker. He was such a grump and a downer. But stick with him, he definitely wiggles into your heart with the help of Mr Smiley Sunshine aka Hwan, which I instantly fell in love with. I me

I thought it was just me until I read the review from "M Marshall" on Amazon (check it out -- I completely agree, but didn't want to repeat everything they said).

I kept feeling like I was missing something. I even looked at the author's previously released books to see if there was another story mentioning Asher or Wyatt. Once I read the other review, I discovered there WAS a #0.5, (which I have as part of the YBB freebies in 2022) but I have not read it yet. The author mentions several events

Like I said in other reviews, I’m a huge sucker for small town type of M/M stories! There are couple of tropes in this one. Grumpy/Sunshine, Age Gap, muscle/somewhat a twink, and straight/gay are the tropes in this one. I enjoyed reading this one very much! I couldn’t help but love Hwan! He’s one adorable character!!!! I’ve come to love Parker later on because he was a GRUMPY!!!!

This particular story focuses on Parker, the grumpy guy who had to try to come to terms with the ending of his marria

Enjoyable 3.75 stars.

Parker is such a grumpy grump and ends up on Mayberry Holm when his life implodes. Hwan is a bubbly, sweet, full of sunshine guy who has just opened his Bubble Tea store. Their first meeting certainly does leave an impression, good from Hwan’s viewpoint but not so much from Parker’s.
Circumstances have Parker assisting Hwan at the store where they finally get to know one another and find themselves enjoying each other’s company which does lead to some smexy times.

I would recommend reading the prequel from the YBBB promo first. This is sweet angsty book of opposites attracting. Hwan has a outgoing cheery personality and has just opened his dream Bubble tea shop in tribute to his deceased mother and Parker has recently arrived to the island after separating form the Navy Seals and a recent divorce. Hwan feels he does't have time for love, and Parker feels he doesn't deserve love and is known by his friends and Mr. Grumpyface which just makes him grumpier. ...more

The blurb of this book is exactly what I was looking for, so it should have been perfect .. but unfortunately it lost some appeal in between.

The relationship was well done and I liked how they got to know each other. The problems there were a bit quickly resolved but I appreciated that they talked about it.

I really liked Parker at the beginning and was angry with all the people around him, who would not respect his wishes and could not accept him as he is

Mother Parker was a terrific story, and I loved it from the first page to the last.
Grumpy, down on himself, ex-Seal Parker has a softer, hidden side which he discovers when he moves to Mayberry Holm and has bird seed thrown over him by sunshiny, bubble-tea shop owner, Hwan. When Hwan’s shop is attacked Parker steps in to help, and so the fun and intrigue begin. The two main characters are perfect for each other, and I loved watching them navigate their journey to be together. Aided by the chara

Parker is a grumpy, divorced ex-military man who moves to the island of Mayberry Holm because his old boss and some of his former military teammates are living there. Hwan is a happy young man who has just opened his own Boba shop and is living his best life even though he's been unlucky in love.

Hwan's Boba shop is being vandalized, so Parker poses as an employee to help protect the shop and Hwan. During the time Parker is at the shop, he realizes that he is attracted to Hwan and they quickly fa

An amazing story, I loved it!

This book is awesome! It’s the first one I’ve read by Rhys but it certainly won’t be the last! The story of Hwan and Parker is filled with love, laughs, past hurts and a few crazy birds and is an absolute joy to read. Parker will find himself working in Hwan’s bubble tea shop in order to protect him after an incident at the shop. Hwan’s determined to convert Parker and the back and forth between the two on the subject is a hoot to read. During this time, the relation

New beginnings and starting over. This book had a lot of potential and some are finding it very appealing.  I enjoyed Hwan and the insight into his culture by way of the wonderful Korean foods and teas.  Loved his grandmother.  I found Parker kind of a boring and uninteresting character with his woe is me outlook.  He really had no depth nor insight.

I wanted to love this story with an island to get back from the bad guys and a band of military brothers seeking to make things better.  Maybe the
