A very solid read about the Canadian Football League during the 1940’s to 1960’s. Lots of stories and player info about this era of football. I especially liked that the book was written with passion, and not just a simple account of old games. Each CFL team was given a chapter, where the club’s history was discussed, and then highlights given of important games that they played. One of the better CFL books I’ve read these past few months!

An interesting, well researched and informative look at the CFL with a focus on the 25 year period from the late 1940s until the early 1970s - a time when public interest in the game grew by leaps and bounds. Includes chapters on each of the nine teams and the players, coaches and games that shaped their history. As a sports journalist, Denny Boyd devoted a good part of his career to writing about the BC Lions and their CFL adversaries. He writes in an engaging style as befits someone who was close to the action and knew many of the players and coaching staff described and quoted in the book. Recommended for anyone curious about the league and players during the period from 1948 until 1973.
