Sinister in Savannah #1-3

Sinister in Savannah: Complete Box Set

Rate this book
Sinister in Savannah is a fictional podcast exploring the city’s most nefarious crimes with Southern-fried snark. The books explore friendship, love, loss, and the irrepressible human spirit. The best-selling trilogy is now available in one collection!

Ride the Lightning

When the Sinister in Savannah team delves into the thirty-eight-year-old murder of a drag queen, they quickly discover that the story doesn’t end with the alleged killer’s confession in 1995.

To love is to lose: a lesson criminal analyst Jonah St. John has learned the hard way. For a decade, he has embraced solitude as his penance for a past mistake. Then came Avery Bradford, a man whose warmth and sunshine infuses Jonah’s battered soul and challenges his resistance.

Mr. Perfect

The podcast is back to investigate allegations that a local businessman is dabbling in money laundering. On the surface, everything about Cameron Spencer, aka The Auto King, appears to be perfect. The trio of trouble quickly learns all that glitters is not gold. Seeking the truth will challenge reporter Felix Franklin’s convictions and put his life in grave danger. The biggest threat to his well-being isn’t an unknown villain; it’s the reappearance of his first and only love.

Pretty Poison

Is Tess Hamilton pretty poison or just unlucky in love?

That’s the question the trio of trouble will try to uncover. This investigation strikes a little too close to home for one of them. Tess, a woman accused of killing her three husbands, has been tried and convicted in the media, something PI Rocky Jacobs knows all too well. When their investigation turns up nothing but dead ends, Rocky will keep digging. Is it because he believes in her innocence? Or does Rocky hope to find redemption for himself by achieving it for Tess?
When a sexy federal marshal turns up in Savannah, Rocky is reminded of his greatest love and deepest regret.

Trigger warning: the main character struggles with PTSD resulting from an investigation involving a murder-suicide. While the content is not overly graphic, it could still cause emotional harm to some readers. One of Rocky’s side effects is anxiety, which may trigger similar reactions in those battling the disorder. As with the murder-suicide scene, I avoided being too graphic with his attacks.

I'm a wife and mother of three teenage kids. I've been married to the same wonderful man for twenty years. I've decided that if I can survive raising three kids then I can survive anything!! I haven't uttered the Mama's curse yet, but it could happen any day now. You know the one..."I hope you have a child just like you someday."

I'm an avid reader and lover of all things romance. I've spent my entire adult life waiting to follow my dreams of becoming a writer. One day this past summer, I decided to just do it. No more wishing and hoping. I haven't quit my day job, but that is my ultimate goal...make a living telling stories of love.

I write contemporary gay fiction. I hope you will love reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.

4.5 stars. Audiobook. Love in all the flavors. Series of three books, different couples, all friends and very much in each others lives. There are individual stories and mysteries in each book but also quite a few storylines that arc through the series. Must be read in order, too many characters to jump into the books alone or out of order. Book one was rough to get through, the narration is not great, if you bump it to 1.35, the accents get more tolerable. Books 2 and 3 are better written and also better narrated, so hang in there and keep going. By the end, there is a rich pool of like-able characters and interesting happenings. They are binge-able, very little recapping and the continuity is great. Would recommend at least reading close together since there are SO MANY characters, you’ll forget who is who by the end and loose some of the impact.

The series is a 4.5 overall. Book one 4 stars behavioral analyst and computer hacker, book two 4.5 stars newspaper reporter and television news anchor. Book three 4.25 stars private investigator and US Marshall.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3
This book set contains 3 books, each featuring a different character:
1-Ride the Lightning: (3.5 stars)
An entertaining page turner narrated in 3rd person. This story is a combination of mystery and romance. It follows the private and professional life of Jonah St. John a criminal analyst and podcaster, while he is trying to solve a cold case.
2-Mr. Perfect (2.5 stars)
Not as exciting as the first book. This story follows the professional and private life of reporter and podcaster Felix Franklin who is trying to prove that a rich businessman is involved in criminal activities whilst strangling with his feelings for his Ex.
3-Pretty Poison (2 stars)
At least 75 % of this story consists of fillers some in form of repetitive dialogues or telling and retelling the same thing over and over again.
This story is about private investigator and podcaster Rocky Jacobs and his struggle with PTSD and his marriage.

This was alright. I did not hate it, I did not love it. I listened to all 3 of the books.I love this narrator, but I don't think he was the best possible fit for these particular series.

This was also my first time trying out something by this author and after 3 books, I feel like I have a pretty good idea what her writing is like.

Every single book follows a different host of the Sinnister in Savannah podcast. The author did a great job making Jonah, Felix and Rocky unique and interesting characters with their own personaloties and issues. They also have different jobs outside of the podcast. We also get to see each of these characters through the eyes of others, which gives us a more complete picture, and I really enjoyed that.

Each main character tackles their own personal challenges, and works and starts unpacking their trauma and working on themselves. All the personal issues in the series are handled pretty well.

While characters could use more development, I never felt like they are lacking. Can't say the same about the writing style or romance. The author has a tendency to overexplain some aspect and other times get too preachy, but the romance falls flat simehow. It is the weekest part of the story. Did not vibe with it at all. Characters throw around sexual jokes, lust after eachother and engage in sex scenes a lot, and somehow it's all very unapealing. These are adults talking and acting like horny teenagers, and it gets old fast. And the things that fall out of characters' mouths are just mistly unwarranted . It's part of the humor, and it's mostly not funny.

The mystery part of the story loses more ground to romance with each book. It's a shame, because the mysteries were pretty good and each had a twist at the end. The role of the podcast is also overemphasized in the description. It's barely even there, snd the characters' lives mainly revolve atound their job environment.

Marla was definitely the most impressive side character and received a lot of care from the author, to the point she rivals the main characters.

Let's start by saying that Marla was the greatest 🤗

Now that's out of the way... I mostly did enjoy the books & all the couples, frankly I liked them all, but it did take me quite a while to warm to Jude & even vy the end I can't say that I loved him, but I didn't dislike him!

There was an overarching theme of turning the other cheek with bullies that I wasn't really a fan of TBH... 2 out of the 3 bullies were "redeemed", but I can't say that I was really sold on any of it. I felt like they all got off scot free, most especially the last one...

There wasn't enough spice for my tastes & the little there was wasn't spicy enough...

Sometimes the books got a bit too bogged down with (IMO) unnecessary minutiae...

I think the author didn't really make the 3-way friendship cohesive enough... Jonah was barely a footnote in both Felix & Rocky's stories & BPH, it felt like Felix & Rocky were besties & Jonah ended up the tag-along, which was a shame as they all knew Marla through Jonah, but Marla ended up being more the focus of each story than the 3 friends & their alleged friendship!

I loved Marla & loved all her appearances, but I wish the focus had been equal throughout... they all featured heavily in Jonah's story & then he was almost forgotten!

All in all, definitely worth a listen... there's a bit of everything in it & it's never boring!

I enjoyed all three of the books in this boxed set, but I'd give a slight nudge to the last one as my favorite. That might be because I knew Rocky fairly well by the time his story came about and partly because of the trauma of this past. But all the stories were interesting with much more than a romance plot to them.

What I didn't care for, at all, was Tristan James's narration. I have loved his narrations in the past but I think part of the issue with this huge cast of characters is that his voice has a certain resonance to it that can't be disguised enough to create unique character voices. Add to that his Southern accent which was on again/ off again, and mostly pretty terrible, and I barely tolerated some of the scenes. Sorry but this accent is not where he shines.

So overall, since this is an audio review I needed to drop my rating to three stars and to note that I won't be likely to re-listen to this series.

I really enjoyed the core story arcs. Each one of the three stories had interesting social commentary. The main characters all had distinct and unique personalities. I liked Jonah and Rocky. Felix was a little annoying. I did want to know their love interests a bit better. Rocky's story was my favorite, and I am glad I decided to purchase the box set even though I had planned on just testing the waters with Ride the Lightning. Tristan James narration is interesting to listen to because he has a pleasant voice, and his different character voices are usually distinct. He does have some odd pronunciations from time to time though. Overall a good listen, and I would be interested in a continuing series.

3 novels each story was engaging but took me a while for it to flow, with it being written in the style it was. The main characters are friends whom decide to start a true crime podcast, then a friend asks for help with an old crime that to all intent and purposes was committed decades earlier and solved years after the crime occurred. Each book has a different crime for the readers to get their teeth into, It's told in 1 pov in the 3rd person so for people who are not fans of this style of writing and want to understand and know what each MC's views and feelings are then this may not be one for you happy reading

This is a modern mystery romance, the second trilogy in 3 trilogies by the same author. Read/listen to “Zero Hour” trilogy first before“Sinister in Savannah” and I’m now on “matrimony and Mayhem” which I think is the best order to read/listen to them! Three unique podcasters with different experiences come together to investigate the sinister side of Savannah. Each find love along the way but not before they first get caught up in great investigations! I went back and forth between listening on audible and reading the ebook but I thought the narration was fabulous with a great voice for each of the characters!

Sinister in Savannah

I absolutely love all three stories. They got better with each couple.. with tearjerking moments tossed in each one.
Jonah and Avery: Sweet, sassy, with with a psychotic GBI agent
Felix and Jude: gritty with self esteem issues, a bully, and a mob boss
Rocky and Asher : sexy with tad of crazy obsessed partner and PTSD from Rocky's past.
Enjoyed each one tremendously.

**Audiobook Review**

I absolutely loved this boxset. I listened back to back and it was wonderful listening to each book with the guys finding love again and solving old cold cases. The narrator was on point with the character voices and bringing their lives with so much entertainment. I highly recommend this set.

Noped out of this about halfway through book 1. I don't think this author is for me as I really didn't enjoy their narrative voice. Bummed since it is so highly rated.
