Writer Susan Frank and cartoonist Phil Frank present The Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone, an insider's look at Yellowstone National Park. Ranger Norm — a cartoon version of Norm Bishop, a veteran Yellowstone ranger — is the reader's own personal tour guide, offering guidance on every aspect of the park, from Old Faithful to the difference between a grizzly and a black bear. To help plan the perfect trip, Susan and Phil have also included a telephone directory, a list of tour operators, and descriptions of classes and educational programs. With Phil Frank's charming illustrations and up-to-date information on accommodations, camping, dining, flora and fauna, and recreational options, The Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone is the perfect companion for exploring this remarkable destination.
I really did a lot of research in preperation for our Yellowstone trip...internet articles and sites, maps, movies and books, but "The Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone" was the single most helpful thing I read. This book was so great that I made everyone who was going with us, all 6 families, read it before we left! If you're even thinking about a trip to Yellowstone, buy this book first!
This is a nice reference guide however I found it more interesting after we had visited different sites in the park. Lots of historical tidbits that don't help differentiate sites until after you have viewed them.
