Volume 3 spans years.

I like the premise of the story but, as you can tell from my rating, I’m sad to say that in the end, the series didn’t suit me. I feel bad but, in equal measure, I've a need to be honest....

My thoughts
The writing didn’t work for me which, I think, resulted in me feeling a disconnection to the story and the characters.

I didn’t feel her anguish.

Certain elements just didn’t add up to me personally. I felt like Bentley and his team of people should've been more perceptive, after all he does run an investigative company.

The story motivation, for me, felt slightly skewed at times. The correlation is not quite right.

The reading experience is highly subjective.

To end on a positive, I liked the hero and heroine and there are readers who love this series. So please, for balance, check out the perspective of other reviewers. Here's a 5 star review from Michelle: https://t.co/MpSgZ2Mzyi

☆☆☆☆☆ 5 I LOVE BENTLEY STARS ☆☆☆☆☆

INTERN3_1

One word to describe The Intern: Volume 3 is PERFECTION!!! I couldn’t wait to start this book and so I didn’t care that I started reading this book at 1am. I had to get my Bentley fix and devoured this book in one sitting. Once I was done reading this book, I was left with a BIG FAT SMILE on my face. They say the eyes are useless when the mind is blind and so Ms. Cumberland will open our eyes in this final installment. Nothing is black and white. Love is not perfect. The truth hurts. And behind Bentley and Ceci’s eyes is a beautiful love story to be told.

INTERN3

Brooke Cumberland did an AHH-MAZZZING job with the Intern Volume Series. She did a fabulous job incorporating the right amount of love, sadness, hurt, anger, sexiness and angst. Every raw emotion was felt and literally my heart went out to Ceci and Bentley as they tried to fix their relationship. Honestly, I think Brooke must have a secret recipe when it came to writing The Intern Installments since she knew which ingredients to use to hook and beg her readers for more Bentley and Ceci. This volume series will leave readers like myself begging more for a slice BENTLEY. Forget a slice… I want Bentley all to myself. Brooke~Can I have Bentley?? **pretty please** <3 All I can say is that the Intern installments had the perfect blend of ingredients. If I were to guess Brooke’s secret recipe to The Intern, I would have to say it consisted 2lbs of love, pinch of humor, 3lbs of angst, 2 spoonfuls of broken past, 1 zest of passion, 1lb of sweetness, ¾ cups of second chances and 2lb of sexiness. Mix all those ingredients up and you got yourself an unforgettable love story!!! I adore and love this series hard. Ms. Brooke ended Bentley and Ceci’s story perfectly. So if you are looking for a fun sexy read then I highly recommend you read The Intern!! <3

The murder of a young girl’s father sends her searching for answers. When Cecila West applies to intern at Leighton Enterprises hoping to gain info about her father’s murder she has no idea what lays ahead. And one thing is for certain, she’s not exactly who she ‘claims’ to be.

Bentley Leighton has taken a position at his family’s company where he is supposed to one day take over as CEO. Yet Bentley is not exactly happy about this aspect. In fact, he would prefer to continue his career as a model traveling the world, something he loves to do.

‘How did this become my life? How did I let one girl consume me so much that I fucking missed what was right in front of me?’ -Bentley

Everything comes to a head in part three of The Intern. BIG changes are ahead for Bentley and Ceci as they face the reality of their situation on many different levels. Bentley pieces together a few things and realizes the he has to make some major decisions. Oh and he has to now tell his father he F’d up. Not an easy task knowing that the company’s entire reputation can be tarnished from his mistake.

Bentley’s past plays a big part in his choices. The only thing he knows to be true is that he fell for Ceci and she fell for him…that has to count for something right.

‘There’s a reason your past is supposed to stay in the past.
There’s a reason you want to forget. There’s a reason the past hurts.
Isn’t time supposed to heal all wounds?’
-Ceci

My Thoughts + My Rating and Why
Hmm. I was a serious mixed bag of emotions after finishing this. Depending on taste buds I am sure this third installment will not go over well for some readers. One piece of the plot fell a bit flat for me. The question is...was it just me? On the flipside EVERYTHING else met my expectations proving that I truly love all things Bentley!!!

Honestly I wavered between 3 and 4 STARS on this because a particular plot line was not followed through the way I was expecting to say the least. What worked for me was that the main characters were so lovable, I enjoyed their connection which shined in my humble opinion. Everyone may not agree but that’s okay.

WHY 3.5 STARS you ask? Well it’s simple; TWO things pull you in to this story, ONE being the forbidden romance aspect. TWO is the mystery behind Ceci’s father’s murder; unfortunately the direction seemed to swerve… I know of no other way to describe it to keep this spoiler free.

There were definitely some things that caught me off guard in volume three plot wise which weigh heavily on my rating as well. Now, the relationship itself with Bentley and Ceci I enjoyed, it was not forced or rushed. I will say this, the direction of how things went for them in particular was more than a bit shocking at first. Overall, I liked it.

The final installment of The Intern starts off just where part two left off. Bently knows he's been betrayed but he doesn't know the reasons why. But he isn't really interested in learning the reasons why. Ceci just wanted to get to the bottom of her father's murder... she wanted closure - she never imagined that she'd fall in love in the process.

But walking away doesn't erase the memory of what they felt, time doesn't lessen the desire, the passion or the love.

One thing that I loved about the conclusion of this story was the elapse of time, approx. two years of time allows this story to be drawn to a conclusion without rushing towards the finish line (excluding the epilogue). There were far too many things in play to have allowed this to work if, say, it was a simple few months.

One thing that kept me from really getting lost in this story was towards the end it seemed like so much of the story became about the sex. Once scene would end and then it would roll right into another one. I get the whole make up sex and reunion thing - but I found myself skimming through to get back to the dialogue and story. This one fell just a little flat compared to the first two and I the conclusion to the mystery of the father's death felt a little anti-climatic... shocking, yes but just not compared to the build up I had in my own head as I read the series.

A solid 3.5 star series in all, although the second installment I think was the star of this series.

Ceci’s internship at Leighton Enterprises is going strong but the deeper she gets in her relationship with Bentley, the more the guilt increases. At this point she’s head over heels in love with him, but knows her lies will never allow them to have more. She’s aware that her façade is bound to come crashing down and her real identity will reveal itself.
Even knowing that, she never realized just how much it was going to bring her world out of orbit.

“At first, I wanted to scream at myself for how stupid I was to ever let Ceci get that close o me. I should’ve known better—should’ve held my guard, but it was inevitable. My body had noticed her before my mind had a chance to catch up.”

So if you were having the same thoughts and feelings as I was after the second volume, you must’ve been pacing back and forth like a madwoman (or man?).

Bentley left us wondering what his next step was going to be and in absolute shock. Though I highly doubt we were as shocked as Bentley…
He finally found out about Ceci’s true identity and was fuming over her pile of lies.

I’m extremely invested in these two characters, and have been since they captured my heart. That’s why I’m giving this book 4 stars. However, I’m a little disappointed with the development of the mystery aspect of the story; or rather lack there of. I just didn’t feel like all the loose ends were tied up appropriately, if at all. We didn’t actually get a precise answer for her father’s murder. With the way Ceci was so hell-bent on getting answers, it strikes me as odd that she gave up without resisting more.

“You’re too late.”
“What?” he gasps, training his eyes on me still.
“You weren’t late back then, “ I clarify. “But you’re too late
now.”

Another factor that threw me for a loop was the amount of time this last serial spanned. This third installment goes through years and for me, it ruined the flow of the entire story. The parts where both characters weren’t in the scene seemed to fall flat and I hate to say I speed-read over those parts.

Again, because I love this couple, they managed to grab my attention toward the end. I got back into the story and was very happy with the ending. I will certainly miss reading about this couple’s steamy interactions and beautiful, romantic moments.
Overall, an okay ending to this installment and a great series!

The first three books of were good. I was excited to read this one. To know how life was treating Ceci and Bentley. Unfortunately i wasn't too happy with this novella. There were lots of unnecessary situations. Other parts were too rushed. Some parts felt like they didn't have an end.

Thank God i didn't pay money for this! I read it for free, thanks to my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Let me tell you why it deserves 1.5 or 2 ★.

But let's start from the beginning. The author says that it's a *three-part romantic suspense serial.*
We have:
The Intern, Volume 1 - 100 pages: you can read my review here
The Intern, Volume 2 - 158 pages: my review
The Intern, Volume 3 - 211 pages: review here

The first two "volumes" end with major cliffhangers. In my humble opinion, when you have such short novellas, it's really not cool to use cliffhangers. Reason #1 for saying "thank God" i didn't actually buy the books.

The hero & heroine. OMG! I don't remember reading another book where i hated them both in the same time. Ok, maybe not hate, but i definitely didn't like them. Why you ask? Well, where should i start? If you haven't read my review of volume 1, let me tell you that she lies and manipulates. It appeared to be quite proud of herself to be able to do that.
And she's 18!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ceci gets a job as an intern where she seduces Bentley in the first 2 days she's there. Of course he's not able to resist her and after he fucks her, he finds out that she's hiding something. So what does he do? He believes her lies so he keeps fucking her through out the second volume. Then he finds out the truth and they separate almost all volume 3, where everything happens on fast forward. One day she's 18, the next is 1 year after and so on. So here I am, trying to get some closure after this major shit, reading and reviewing the 4th (?) volume of this *three-part romantic suspense serial.*

First of all, there's no romance. It's just sex, lies, anger, separation and stupid hero&heroine. Ok, I admit, this last part has some romance (and more sex) and it saves the whole thing from being marked as a "DFR" with 1 ★.

I forgot to mention why he's stupid. Here:

Tears begin falling down her pink-tinted cheeks. She's upset she's been caught, but perhaps more upset about losing me. Losing us? It didn't matter anymore - this is unforgivable."

He felt something was wrong all the time, but he ignored it. He find out the truth and he still thinks there was a "them" somewhere, but he's not willing to let her explain and when he does, he still doesn't forgive her. What kind of romance is this???

The funny thing is that she asks herself at some point:

WHEN THE HELL did he fall in love with me?"

Well honey, MY POINT EXACTLY! How did it all happen?

Anyways, another problem. During their hot sex there were a lot of "God", "Jesus" and "Christ" + Bentley/Ceci. Can we get more creative than that? I'm so far from being religious, but calling God and His family 10 times in one page, seems a little bit too much.

This 4th volume is their HEA. Which could have been nice enough, if there wasn't for that forced and unnecessary drama. The whole thing was a major drama, why add more? Why add more that doesn't make sense?

I don't know if I painted a complete picture for you, but I feel was a lost day from my life with this stupid thing. At least the sex has hot, even with God & Jesus Christ always there. :)

It's tortuously angsty, it's sexy and swoony. It also gives us the answers we were looking for.

In this third and last installment of the serial, Bently has found out the truth about Ceci. Perhaps not the whole truth but enough ugly parts to have him seething, drowning in feelings of betrayal and humiliation mixed with the undeniable ones of fondness, affection and attraction which leave him in turmoil.
“I’m living in a constant battle between wanting her and hating her.” ~ Bently

But Bently wasn’t the only one affected by Ceci’s choice. At first she had been willing to do anything to get what she wanted, the closure she needed. She never counted on falling in love, and after the betrayal there was only regret.
“I’ve never felt more regret than I did these past few weeks, replaying every decision in my head over and over… The damage is done—I’ve hurt him and there’s nothing I can do to change that.” ~ Ceci

Except may be time to heal the wounds caused. I so very much loved that Brooke didn't give us a fast easy fix to the problems surrounding Ceci and Bently. It was slow and painful.
“I was angry and broken, and I didn’t even want to live a life without you, yet I had to learn how because it was my only option.” ~ Bently

But then it was sweet and it felt real because it wasn’t strained or hurried, it was almost like a second chance romance.
Who knew Bentley could be so tender and sweet, yet domineering and hot. ~ Ceci

I had a difficult time with my rating and review. The attraction and steam was definitely there, but that’s not why I got hooked. I loved the suspense revolving Ceci’s fathere’s murder. The fast pace generated by Bently and Ceci’s banter and quick wit and of course their no-no liaison from the first two installments. I understand that changes had to be made. They just caught me by surprise. But I was won over by the way their relationship evolved and the way they matured. I also liked that Brooke answered all our questions and tied old and new loose ends.
