It's Sunday afternoon. My favorite baseball team is the worst in the Major Leagues. I don't want to watch them lose again.Here's a book I picked up for free at my favorite used goods store. So I plowed thru this book (it's only 125 pages) and came to the realization that not all pulp is classic pulp. This mystery from the 1950's is so horribly dated that it takes away from the basic plot; a plot that was weak at best. It's hard to believe that these stories were best sellers. Carter Brown was the pseudonym of Alan Geoffrey Yates (1923-1985), who was born in London and educated in Essex.

He married Denise Mackellar and worked as a sound engineer for Gaumont-British films before moving to Australia and taking up work in public relations.

In 1953 he became a full-time writer and produced nearly 200 novels between then and his retirement in 1981.
