Necklace Trilogy #2

Because I Can

Rate this book
To the world, Dash Black is famous, wealthy, wildly good-looking, and intriguing. To say that he came into my life and shook my world is an understatement. He looked into my eyes and I swear our souls connected, but then, I saw what no one else was ever allowed to see. I saw a complicated man with secrets, a man who hides behind a persona that tells only part of his story. And ultimately, I felt his pain and he felt mine. He told me I belonged with him. I believed I did. But in the book of life, the pages don't turn with a simple flip of a sheet of paper. In life, sometimes the page won't turn. Sometimes we discover that what is right is more terrifying than what is wrong.

I love Dash Black, but he terrifies me.

I believe he feels the same about me.

And I'm not sure where that leaves us or what comes next.

Because I Can is the second book in the Necklace Trilogy

This picks up right where the first book ends. Dash and Allie’s relationship is in its formative stage moving into something more. This has a lot of emotional development although it’s Allie’s growth we’re aware of as we have her point of view alone. I did miss having Dash’s, seeing his alphaness and the intensity of his feelings. The author does give us enough signs of those feelings however, so that eased my need for his thoughts to a certain extent.

The mystery here flows around the relationship. There are certainly moments that threaten danger but for me this was all about Dash and Allie. I am curious about the missing Allison, the necklace and the man involved, it just wasn’t my priority.

The chemistry between Dash and Allie is extreme. This couple are hot together even as they are struggling with issues within and outside their relationship. A heat advisory should be given when deciding to read as this was absolutely scorching. I was prepared for a cliffhanger, but didn’t expect it to feel so angsty. Definitely glad the next book is releasing soon.

ABOUT THE SERIES
A dirty-talking alpha who just happens to be her boss...
A proposed marriage of convenience so he can inherit...
A passion neither of them can deny...

Tyler Hawk is a man with secrets and a dark past. A man who has known tragedy and betrayal. He wants for little, but what he wants is more power, a legacy that is his own, and not his father's. There are obstacles in his way, one of which is the scandal his father left behind and a will with certain demands.

Behind the scenes he is a man on edge, and only one woman sees the truth hidden beneath his strong will and dominant rule. Bella is somehow demanding and submissive, fiery and yet sweet. She can give him everything he wants, she just doesn't know it, not yet, but she will. If she'll just say yes and sign on the dotted line.

The people we love are the sunshine on even the rainiest day. We need them. They are bonds that hold us together in the stormiest of days.

In book two we get the continuation of the series here, it kicks off right where it ended and we get back into the world of Dash and Allie and their adventures together. There is a cliffhanger at the end of What If I Never? and I just loved how quickly its resolved at the beginning of Because I Can. There is more added mystery surrounding Allison. Allie has found Allison’s Instagram account, and found so many relatable connections to Allison and to herself. Allie is having to come to terms with her past, There is more secrets revealed about Dash’s past. There is also confrontation in dealing with her boss and his relationship with Allison that only intrigues Allie about their relationship with each other. As Allie works her job, and is building her relationship with the famous author, and also learning to face up to what their future will be with each other.

His mouth comes down on mine in a searing kiss and allows me to do just what I want to do. Forget all the bad. And focus on the here and now, with Dash. That’s the good.

I had such a blast with book two in this trilogy and seeing this pair come together even more deeply, and seeing them become more transparent with each other. It was quite fascinating to see what they reveal to each other, and the relationship that they are building with each other. The mystery behind Dash is becoming more clear, and you as the reader become more gravitated the more you read their story. Dash is not your typical hero, and I adored having his facets revealed and seeing the “man” behind the mystery of what you first perceive him as. The connection that Dash and Allie have together is beyond beautiful. They have these quiet simple moments together that is pure perfection. And you won’t be able to put their story down, no matter what life delivers to your door.

This author does cliffhangers very well! I was screaming at my kindle at that cliffhanger and now I am so anxious for book 3. I really want to know how Allie is going to react to Dash after what he just did. A part of me hopes she makes him grovel.

Allison (not the heroine) is still missing but we got to know a new player in her past. I can't tell if he is a bad guy or not. This series really has me wanting to go and read the Inside Out series. It's been on my list to read but I think I need to move it up.

The mystery grows in this second book, and so does the intense relationship between Dash Black and Allison. It is easy to read and gripping thanks to the passion of the characters, so hot and demanding, and the increasing enigma surrounding the other Allison's disappearance.

I enjoyed the complicity the couple develops. They have broken hearts over family and secrets, but they are fighting to be together. Emotional intimacy is shown in sweet, romantic ways, also domestic, and others quite steamy.

The most exciting part is how Allie keeps investigating to unearth many details and clues about the other woman. I am really invested in her mission to find her. In this book, the clues come in surprising forms that keep the tension and curiosity mounting. I also find her job at Hawkes Legal very engaging. Allie is at the crux of a life choice. I like what's moving her, it feels real and significant.

On the other hand, so many powerful and magnetic men are prowling around in this book. They are yummy and a wonderful bait for my reading eyes. The last chapters feel momentous, and what happens at the end is dramatic enough to keep me biting my nails till the final book. Hurry up, cupcake!

BECAUSE I CAN picks up right where WHAT IF I NEVER? left off so please read these books in order, and I highly recommend doing what I did binge read the trilogy so that when book 1 and book 2 leave you with cliffhangers you're ready to jump into the next book.

Lisa Renee Jones is taking us on a suspenseful journey on the hunt for Allison W. in the first book Allison Wright received a necklace but it was intended for a different Allison and when she try's to locate the correct Allison so many things happen. First off, she is offered her position with Wolf Legal heading a Charity Auction and since she is on personal leave from Riptide Auction House this is right up her alley, then she moves into Allison's house...not creepy at all LOL, but the most important change is Dash Black the former FBI agent turned Author whom Allison is slowly falling in love with.

This story has so many twists and turns but pay attention and see if you can figure out what happened to Allison before Allie does.

If you enjoy Steamy Romantic Suspense Reads I would recommend this trilogy to you.

Happy Reading!!!

3.5 stars rounded down. I didn’t like this one as much as book 1 (which is why I rounded down to 3 stars instead of rounding up to 4… which is what I rated book 1) but boy did I zoom through it. I’m finding this series to be wildly entertaining. In book 2, we finally find out some of the issues with Allie and her ex and father. And we also find out the reason behind Dash’s animosity with his father and the infamous fighting. We still, however, don’t really know anything about the missing Allison. I have so many questions where she is concerned. Now that Allie and Dash were officially together, there were more sex scenes and more steam. You do need to read book 1 first. Book 2 picks up right where it left off. Bring on the popcorn because I will absolutely be moving on to book 3. Honestly, I am gobbling up this entire series. Fans of Ivy Smoak or Willow Summers will not want to miss this series.

I was gifted an ebook copy of this series by the author. Thanks Lisa!

Because I Can picks up right where What If I Never? left off, and Dash does not disappoint, is there for Allie even though after what happened earlier had her thinking perhaps he was on the verge of disappearing from her life. They start on the path of to solid, stable relationship, but there are still secrets to be rooted out, and the big mystery of where the original Allison is.

I am loving this trilogy! I know I can always count on LRJ for an excellent romantic suspense filled with hot chemistry and intrigue and action, and that's exactly what Dash and Allie delivered. Their relationship is finally starting to come together, then bam, that awful cliffhanger and now I'm on the edge of my seat, and angrily muttering to myself about that damn Dash. I really hope he's not about to do what I think he's about to do, and I cannot wait for When I Say Yes to find out how Allie and Dash (and all the other alphas in this story) figure out their relationship.

Complete Trilogy Review- NO SPOILERS

Receiving the wrong delivery has somehow landed Allison a new yet temporary position at Hawk Legal. I am one of the lucky few that have been able to binge-read the entire trilogy from start to finish. All within a 24 hour period. I was absolutely consumed with this. So many different love stories are crafted together to form a mystery. Many of the different interactions and outcomes I did not see coming. I found so many aspects of this trilogy highly fixating. I literally couldn’t put it down. I finally finished at 2 AM. It goes to show Lisa Renee Jones has a knack for compelling storytelling. Those of you who have been in it since book one can revel in this last and final part of the trilogy. And those of you who haven’t had the pleasure... well, you’re lucky in my opinion. You get to do what I did and binge your through till the end.

Book 2 of the Necklace Trilogy brings us further into Allie and Dash’s world. New characters are revealed that just complicates the search for Allison and who may have sent the necklace. Past and present collide and the outcome isn’t as pretty as you would have hoped it to be. I had hopes that were totally dashed (pun intended) that maybe, just maybe LRJ would have surprised us and brought these two closer together instead of give them more uphill battles to fight. I was thinking that they were both helping each other let go of the past any look forward to the future. And the one I thought would stand firm, didn’t. There is a part of me that isn’t surprised that I had it wrong and another part that hoped that I was right. But, all is well in the world of LRJ as she leave us hanging, again. And, putting past demons aside, I love Dash. He may be complicated and a bit demanding but he is also generous, loving and protective. You may not be sure which Dash you are getting when you turn the page but you will not be disappointed by him … until you are. As for Allie, I think she is a bit more complicated than Dash. She knows she has to let go of the past, let go of her obsession with Allison and look to the future. But, when she does, that’s when the past comes back and gets her. There are romantic suspense authors that know how to write a good and intriguing story and then there is Lisa Renee Jones. She writes the story so that you really don’t know where the plot is going to take you. And she definitely personifies the phrase “and the plot thickens”. I am never sure what’s going to be written on the next page, what character is going to throw a wrench into the story or just where she is going to lead us. She’s an interesting and complex author that knows how to keep her readers engaged in the story and how to keep them coming back for more. Interesting characters, a fascinating storyline and romance. The perfect mix for an engrossing and riveting story.

More questions, more mystery, and more intrigue. The second book in this trilogy takes you deeper down the rabbit hole.

Dash and Allie’s relationship continues to grow. There is a little more information about Dash and his secrets, yet I still feel like there is so much more to him. There are a lot of ups and downs when it comes to their relationship, neither of them think they are worth it for the other.

Allie continues to discover more about the mysterious Allison and continues her own digging into the woman’s life. More people who knew Allison come into play and Allie becomes suspicious of them all.

There are more questions that this book brings up and once again this book ends on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see where things go with Dash and Allie’s relationship and of course, what happened to Allison.

If you’re looking for a workplace, romantic suspense story this is one to check out, but make sure you read book 1 first.

This one pretty much picks up where the last one left off. Lots of drama again. Both Dash and Allison seem to have times where they don't think they are worth the other. Lots of questions about the missing Allison, it doesn't look good for her. It will be interesting to see how things wrap up.

OMG. I’m so rooting for Dash and Allie! There are so many suspect characters in this story that I have no idea what’s going on yet. So excited to read the next one and get some answers … and get Dash’s head out of his butt and back with Allie.

Leave it to Lisa Renee Jones to hit it out of the park again! This is Book Two of this trilogy, and it picks up right where book one left off. Allie is wondering if someone is in the house when she gets home. She and Dash grow closer when she goes to stay at Dash's place. She knows he has demons from his past that he is dealing with and is not yet ready to disclose to her anything about this. She has a past as well. I love the suspense and intrigue and can't help but wonder what are Dash's demons that's keeping him from being with Allie. Allie seems drawn to the missing Allison (We still do not find out what happened to Allison but I know this will be addressed in the next book.). Dash is having a hard time dealing with his past and how it affects his relationships not only with Allie but others in his life. I am on edge waiting for the third book in the series. I'm anxious for the third installment because I need to know what happens next and how it all fits together!

I received an advance copy from the author - but this is my honest review.

We left book one in a very scary moment for our leading lady Allie. She’s hiding in the wine cellar of the house that she’s staying in (which Tyler her ‘boss’ owns) and someone has disarmed the alarm and is in her house. The lights have gone out and she hears steps above her. To make matters worse, she’s not able to call 911 and she’s had a fight with Dash because of his self destructive behavior so she’s basically on her own. Until she’s not.

Thankfully Dash comes to her rescue and she can leave the house unscathed. What we don’t know is who the intruder was or what they wanted, but as a result of this scary moment, Dash and Allie are on more sturdy ground and they go back to his apartment together.

This second installment is about obsession. That’s really the only way that I can level set here. Allie is obsessed with finding Allison, the girl that’s gone missing that has put her in this new world in Nashville. Dash is obsessed with Allie and while it seems like a great thing at times (their chemistry is off the charts) we know that they both have such troubled pasts that there’s no way that it can work out. Then there’s Tyler who’s obsessed with bringing Dash down, and as this story goes, we learn of others who have similar motivations.

While all this insanity is going on, we watch a few great things happen. We see Allie thrive in her role pulling together a winning auction, however it means that she has to come to terms with what that means for her future at RipTide. We watch the relationship between Dash’s sister and Allie grow, and we see how Allie’s mother grows to appreciate Dash as well.

On the flip side we see what Allie’s past can do to haunt these two, with her ex fiance scheming a way into her life in a bad way. All the progress that’s been made throughout this story with obsessing over what happened to Allison, what that means for Allie and what the future holds if and when they find her is nullified at the very end through a series of unfortunate events.

There’s heat and passion throughout this story that keeps us intrigued and there are mysteries that we only get hints to and not full clear insights to carry us to to the finale. If you’ve read In and Out by LRJ, then you know that there’s not always a happy ending with the missing person, and I fear that’s what we’re going to find in this series as well. I”m positive that one of the men that we’ve met is the one that made her feel like she had to disappear, and I am pretty sure that i’ve guessed it. What I wonder though is the motivation given that there seem to be so many men that care about her.

Thankfully we only have to wait until next month to see how this all resolves, but I will say that the sexual tension here was enough to keep a reader engaged, but I wonder if it’s enough to keep the couple together. Dash and Allie know what they’re capable of, but don’t trust each other enough to see it play out. Hopefully identifying who sent the necklace and why he needs to be forgiven will not only lead us to Allison, but to a happy ending as well.

4.25 stars-BECAUSE I CAN is the second instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult NECKLACE erotic, romantic suspense trilogy focusing on former FBI agent turned author Dash Black, and former editor turned museum cataloguer Allison ‘Allie’ Wright. BECAUSE I CAN should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliffhanger of books one WHAT IF I NEVER. There is a slight cross over with the author’s INSIDE OUT series.

SOME BACKGROUND: Allison Wright’s arrival at Hawk Legal finds our heroine facing reclusive billionaire Tyler Hawk, who offers Allie a temporary position organizing an upcoming charity auction, a position recently held by another Allison but the delivery of a priceless necklace pushes Allie to begin an investigation into the woman no one can find, the woman who was the intended recipient of the diamond necklace. As our heroine enters into her three month position, she will meet charismatic author Dash Black, the man with whom Allie will fall in love but all is not well between Dash and Tyler, and Allie becomes a pawn in a game of one-upmanship between the two men trying to control her life.

Told from first person perspective (Allie) BECAUSE I CAN picks up immediately after the events of book one wherein someone has broken into Allie’s temporary apartment, an apartment currently owned by Tyler Hawk. In an ongoing effort to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love, former FBI agent turned author Dash Black pushes Allie to move into his place, where he can better protect our story line heroine but Allie isn’t one to jump at commands, and finds herself focused on running when Dash begins to push too hard. As Dash prepares for a meet and greet in New York, Allie discovers the other Allison’s journal, a journal that creates more questions than answers. What ensues is the continuing romance and relationship between Dash and Allie, and the potential fall-out as both of their pasts collide, forcing Dash to push Allie out of his life.

BECAUSE I CAN continues to focus on the building romance and relationship between Dash and Allison Wright, Allison’s employment with Riptide vs Hawk Legal, and the search for the truth into the whereabouts of the original Allison W. As Dash’s past resurfaces with the intent to make trouble, Allie’s past intends to make our heroine pay for sins of the father. The fast paced premise is intriguing, captivating and provocative; the romance is edgy and intense; the characters are lively, spirited, powerful and flawed. BECAUSE I CAN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

There is s a familiar feel and presentation to the series. For fans of Lisa Renee Jones, the NECKLACE TRILOGY is similar in premise and comparable to the author’s INSIDE OUT SERIES.

The mystery behind the necklace continues. That journey will lead Allison in a world where all her past choices are coming to the surface. As she is trying to solve the mystery, she finds herself protecting her heart. Her past is haunting her and doesn't let her fully enjoy at the moment. The man she fell for is damaged just like her, but they can't deny the strong connection between them.

Time is ticking and their time together is expiring. And the mystery of the other Allison is even more complicated and it seems like nowhere near the end. Where will that lead them? Can they face their past and fears and open up or will they build the walls even higher?

I am really starting to like Lisa's writing style. The rich vocabulary and the talent mixed together make a great pair! I adore how she is building the characters, their past, their choices and their fears. Some of them are really lovable but some have questionable moral. I loved the chemistry between the main characters. They want to fight their demons so bad, but they've been in their head for too long, they become a part of them.

The plot twists and the mystery are still present in this book and they were diving me crazy. I was impatient to find out in the first book, and she made me suffer through another one without uncovering it. And she did it really good!

I love the trilogy so far and I can't wait to read the last book and hopefully find answers between the pages.

This one picks up right where the first one left off so make sure you read that one first! Allie is still looking for Allison and everywhere she turns there seems to be more secrets, danger, intrigue, and did I say secrets? Yeah, so many! Dash and Allie have found a groove and are moving really fast towards something lasting but will they be able to overcome those secrets? Of course, there is a cliffhanger but the author promises a quick resolution with book three right around the corner (YAY me!) Did I leave you dizzy with this one? Read book one, move on to this one, and by then book three should be out and we will all be happy! I am really enjoying this series and highly recommend it!

Well it’s safe to say I’m firmly and happily invested in this trilogy, book 2 takes us on an intense journey of passion and mystery.

I am very much rooting for Allie and Dash, their relationship is intense in the best way but there are most definitely secrets that are keeping them from being fully together. I really liked how the characters and their relationship developed in this story- I had no issues getting into this story as the author took us right into the heart of things. While we really don’t know much more than we did in book 1 there are new developments that have me questioning everything. After that ending I’m certain these characters need to get it together and I can’t wait to find out what the heck is going on.

What a puzzling page turner!

Although book #2 still has not produced Allison # 1, Brandon, Allie's sleazy ex shows up threatening her and Dash. Add Dash's horrible father, to the mix and and there are even more unanswered questions. How DID Dash's younger brother really die?

In addition, now that Dash has finally professed his love for Allie, how could he lose his temper, with his father, and walk away so easily from her? Oh well, on to book #3.

Another great story

This is a continuation of Allie and Dash's story. They have all but cemented their lives together ( in a good way ). The mystery of the other Allison is making them nervous and Allie is a little paranoid. However after the break-in, who can blame them. She can't find her wallet but finds a diary instead. She knows she shouldn't but she gets a peak into this other woman's head. Did Allison leave willingly or did something bad happen to her? Will Dash let her in on his secrets, and will she tel him hers? She might not have a choice...

Because I Can is the second book the Necklace Trilogy.

This book definitely moves at a slower pace and doesn't really move the story forward too much in aspect of the suspense.

We get to know a bit more about Dash and why is he the way he is. And readers get to see some progression between Dash and Allie, however it still comes across as more physical than anything.

Allie is very much obsessed over Allison, her whereabouts and why she just vanished. This was only thing that kept my intrigue throughout this story. We got some more tidbits about Allison but not enough to move the story too forward.

Overall, this book felt like we were in a holding pattern while Dash and Allison tried to get to know one another better. It wasn't terrible, just not as much movement forward as I was hoping.

I am definitely looking forward to the last installment to see how this all unfolds.

Overall: 5/5
Spice level: 3.5/5
Tropes: mistaken identity, mystery/suspense

Just like in book 1, I was drawn in from the very beginning and engaged the entire time. I'm so invested in finding out what happened to the original Allison but also the blooming romance between our main characters and their secrets.

The pacing was appropriate and the story was fairly spicy. I really can't wait for book 3 and the conclusion!

This book picks our right where book one left off. I flew through this book looking for answers and loving Dash and Allie’s growth. We learn more about Dash’s darkness and the cause of it. The way this story is written, full of mystery and intrigue kept me constantly wondering what happened to Allison and who she was involved with. I can’t wait to read book 3!
