В свое время, в школьной и районной библиотеке к пятому классу я перечитал все, абсолютно все книги по астрономии, включая даже учебник по квантовой механике для старшеклассников. Это тот случай, когда «в библиотеке книги закончились«. Совсем.

Затем, в школе, когда в 11 классе появилась астрономия, то я пришел к преподавателю, предложил задать мне любой вопрос на лету и освободить от класса. Мне разрешили явиться только на экзамен, который я написал без подготовки. С тех пор я перечитал все от Сагана до Вайнберга, не забывая про учебники астрономии.

Сегодня — про мой самый любимый учебник в жизни. Который от корки до корки был прочитан снова за три последних уикэнда.

Decent review of the subject. Occasionally reads like an annoyingly didactic, middle age morality play proclaiming science as the source of all Truth. The digs at public policy, philosophy, and theology were unnecessary and shows a lack of perspective on what science can and can't do. The book itself had just enough math to give it depth, but not so much that it makes it inaccessible to laypeople like me.

If you are into reading textbooks, this one is a bit more exciting than the Race and Minority Relations. Again, I am reading it to pass the class but learning much along the way. Can't wait to be done so I can pick my own books for reading enjoyment.
