This engaging, shaped board book follows the adventures of bus driver Dog and friends. The story begins with five adorable animal characters on the bus and follows along as they each get off at a different stop. Readers are clued in to the animals' final destination through prompts and artwork that shows Zebra getting off the bus carrying balloons; Bear disembarking with a picnic basket in hand; and Giraffe leaving the bus with a bag full of party hats. The number of die-cut animals decreases with each turn of the page, adding to the interactivity and fun.

There are countless--ha!--counting books available for youngsters. Some are rather drab and focus more on concepts than entertainment. This board book with five different animals riding on a bus is unique in its cutouts and its shaped critters. Dog drives the yellow bus, and starting with five passengers, he watches as first one, then another one, and still another, depart. Repetitive language and glimpses of the final scene in the colorful illustrations keep readers wondering where they're all going, especially since each animal is carrying something. Youngsters may enjoy trying to solve that mystery while also counting down from five to one and a big surprise. This title will stand up to multiple readings and be as enjoyable on the second read as the first.
