Born and groomed to be CEO, Darius is ready to run the family business, except Jeffrey McCall has reserved that position for the oldest son.
Darius McCall’s CEO ambitions have driven his choices since junior high school. He’s worked alongside his father, preparing for the position most of his life.
When Jeffrey McCall names Andrew, Darius’ older brother, as McCall Resorts’ new CEO instead of him, Darius becomes furious. He’s determined to prove that CEO is his rightful place - and spearheading the construction of their new Houston resort is just the way to do that - except Kennedy Slaughter may be a bigger distraction than he expected.
Kennedy Slaughter becomes Slaughter Construction Inc.’s President after the sudden death of her twin brother. She now bears the weight of the company’s success on her shoulders. When McCall Resorts hires her company to build their Houston facility, she works to make her brother proud and fights against anything that will hinder the project’s success - including the undeniable attraction between her and Darius McCall.
What will it take for Darius and Kennedy to secure the success they desire and balance the growing emotional bond between them?
This was a really good story. It can be enjoyed even if you have not read book one in the series. Darius’ story stands alone from his perspective just fine. If you have read book one, like me, you may remember Darius as having a lot of anger issues and not being happy about his brother returning to the family home and business. Well, this novel definitely shows us Darius’ side of the story from around the time that the other book ends.
I wasn’t sure if I would be able to like Darius because he really frustrated me in book one. I understood that he was hurt by his father’s desire to have his firstborn son take over as CEO, yet the way Darius would just explode in anger bothered me. Yet, the author was able to write his character in a way that helped me understand where he was coming from and begin to hope that things could work out for him.
I ended up really liking both of the main characters in this story. Kennedy had some things to work through as she truly took her place in charge of her late brother’s company and some of her decisions were difficult for her. She struggled with how to balance work and a romantic relationship with Darius.
I liked that both of these characters grew a lot emotionally during the story. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, yet I ended up reading this book through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own.
I loved reading this second book in the series. It can be read as a standalone though it is also a continuation of the first book. We get to see more of Andrew and Nina and we learn more about Darius's part of the story and his thoughts behind what he thought was his inheritance being given to his older brother. I must confess I had a hard time liking his character because he seemed to have so much anger inside and questioned everything. Working with Kennedy, she also had to prove him wrong from the moment they meet. I love how she grows into her own person. Not acquainted with the happenings of running a business but put into the position due to her brother's death she has to learn as she moves. Love was definitely not in the picture for either of them but it creeps up on them and it's beautiful to see as the author weaves this tale . Faith filled and beautifully written, I loved this story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via JustRead tours. All opinions expressed are solely mine
We met younger brother Darius in With Every Breath; younger brother to Andrew, who's come home from his professorship to take over as CEO of McCall Resorts; the job Darius has been working and planning for since he was a child. If only he could prove to his father that HE is the one who should be in charge.
With new ground being broken for the second McCall Resort, now in Texas, Darius thinks he's got a chance. All he has to do is to make sure everything is perfect. Which he thinks he can do; until he meets Kennedy Slaughter, the CEO of the construction company. He doesn't mean to be sexist. But can a female really lead this project?
Kennedy is determined to prove Darius wrong. But the sparks they both feel add a complication that neither was expecting. Can they explore their feelings without wrecking the project? Both have wounds that are driving their decisions. And they'll need to tend to those before a relationship can ever happen. Trouble comes from an area that they least expect, though. Will they be able to overcome their issues in this clean, contemporary romance?
I loved Frazier's With Every Breath, and was thrilled when With Every Step finally was published. You'll also appreciate all the McCalls, especially Darius, and darling Kennedy, who's got a lot of her shoulders. Don't miss either of the McCall Family Series books; like me, when you've finished you won't be able to wait for book #3, which I understand is on its way!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
When I read and fell in love with With Every Breath I knew the McCall Family Series was going to be a favorite. With Every Step is the second book in this series, which just so happens to feature the McCall brother I was most curious about, Darius.
This man is handsome, smart, driven and frustrated with all of his hard work the past thirteen years potentially going down the drain when his brother comes back to possibly take his spot as CEO. Honestly, though I love Andrew I was Team Darius on this one, and boy did I feel the frustration through the pages!
Kennedy is new to the series and is the perfect balance to Darius. Seeing the two of them together, supporting and uplifting each other was wonderful. I loved the slow burn of their relationship, and how their friendship and support shined brighter than their love. So many romances jump straight to the physical so it was refreshing to see a firm foundation before the sparks started to fly.
I also have to say, I loved the friendship between Kennedy and Nina. Two strong, successful women that are real and admirable. I love seeing more and more novels that feature strong women with drive and ambition. It is truly inspiring.
With every book in the McCall Family Series I fall more and more in love, and am already anticipating the third installment! Thanks to wonderful writing with strong characters and relationships, With Every Step was a joy to read.

Title: With Every Step Author: Natasha D. Frazier Publisher: N.D.F. Series: McCall Family Series Book 2 Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: Five Review: "With Every Steph" by Natasha D. Frazier
My Assessment:
'Every Every Step' was a lovely read, not just for the two main characters but the this McCall Family in the way things worked out for all of them. When Darius McCall finds out he will not be CEO of his father's company, his brother Andrew has been given this pleasure. Will Darious find out before it's too late what he wanted wasn't precisely wanted he needed to be happy?
What was Darius's reaction after meeting Kennedy Slaughter? Will there be a transformation that Darius will go through throughout this read? All that's left to say is it was so cute how this family came into play through love and support in getting these two together. You will have to pick up this good read to see how well this author put it all together for the reader. Also, I enjoyed reading the Christian aspect of the read. So be ready to good read about 'family, business, and finally love coming for Darius and Kennedy.'
Enjoyed book two of this series. My encounter with Darius McCall in book one had me think he was a very bitter self-centered individual. His desire to become the CEO of the Family business and his bitterness toward his older brother Andrew made him a very undesirable person to be around, in my opinion anyway. Coming into Book two it seemed that there wasn’t going to be much of a change ☺️
After flying out to Texas for the kick off meeting with the owner of The Slaughter Construction Company, Kennedy Slaughter. He insisted that he needed to be on site to make sure this women , whom he felt needed to be micromanage while her company built the Families second Resort facility, didn’t screw up his vision🤨 Needless to say they got off to a rocky start. I chuckled as I realized way before Darius did that he had finally met his match, in a beautiful business women whose Company meant as much to her as his did to him.
As not to give away to much of the story I will just say this was an enjoyable read about how when the right person entires your life change come easy
Enjoy Romance? You’ll love this engaging romance, With Every Step. The characters seem alive and I feel I know them. This family saga is well written with enough struggle and tension between family members to keep you turning the pages. The romance has the right amount of sizzle to make you smile and remember back to your own.
I love strong women characters and I wasn’t disappointed. Every strong person has flaws and a blind spot or two and both Darius and Kennedy are no exception. The descriptions were perfect. Brought me into the scene but didn’t go on and on and on.
Ms. Frazier wrote a great romance with just the right amount of tension. The Christian element was tastefully done and at the appropriate moments. I didn’t read book one but was able to get right into the story. So, this could be considered a standalone. It's also a cute and engaging cover.
Darius definitely has some issues with family and trust, among other things. It seems that Kennedy is just the person to help him along the way!!
There’s a lot of turmoil, anger, and mistrust, but the McCalls are a strong family who love hard and support each other! Darius has to learn and understand all of this, but when that lightbulb clicks, it all comes together! I absolutely loved this book just as much as the first one. I also highly recommend it!! If you’ve yet to read this, go grab your copy now and start enjoying the journey!! Kudos, Natasha!! 💜
Many times we get so focused on our wants and what we believe , that we fail to inquire of God what he has in store for us. Darius was so focused on becoming CEO of his family business that he failed to see the lesson his father was trying to teach him. Kennedy was forced into her role as Owner and manager of her twin brother’s construction company when he died. Her goal was to make her twin brother proud. She two failed to see what else God had in store for her. Can they set aside all of that and find the love that’s missing in their lives and accept what God has for them?
Lovely read. It shows how God is mindful of even the most minute part of our lives, even our insecurities. Despite the differences that existed between Darius and Kennedy and their tendencies to have individual strong wills, I loved that they were able to work, thanks to Jeremy , Mabel and Nina all talking some sense into them. And, I loved to see sibling rivalry that got solved and didn't end in them having their throats as against what often time happens. It was a great read for me. This was a first time reading from this author and I wasn't let down.
Darius and Kennedy had a rough start. Darius’s laser focus on being CEO started causing a riff in his family. It didn’t help that he thought, Kennedy, the CEO of the company that was scheduled to do their construction was not who he considered qualified. Their eventual blending of overcoming their individual need of being defined by others gave them a common ground. The matchmaking efforts of their family sweetened the outcome. They both ended up finding professional satisfaction and personal commitment to each other.
The narrative flows seamlessly, drawing the reader into a captivating romantic journey. Darius's quest for approval from his father and himself is a relatable and poignant element, made all the more impactful by his encounter with Kennedy Slaughter, who helps him realize the true source of fulfillment has been within him all along. The challenges faced by the Darius add depth and authenticity to their relationship, leading to a heartwarming resolution where fate and Darius's as mother knew was pivotal in bringing the characters together.r.
Ok, everyone knows I love when "all things work together for my good." Well, that's exactly what happened in the McCall Family Series Books 1&2. Natasha D. Frazier did a good job. Somewhat predictable, but who cares? We, the reader, got what we wanted. The best part of all? The lessons that Natasha gave us in these two books. The time God gives us is to be treasured. The people He places in our lives are His gifts to us to be treated as precious rarities. Enjoy readers. Thank you, Natasha D. Frazier, thank you for sharing your gift
This was a great story of finding what you didn't know was missing from your life Darius found out that the thing he most wanted wasn't what he needed to make him happy Kennedy found a way to shine without her brother and learn how to balance her life professionally and personally Seeing the rest of the McCall family was the icing on the cake In the end family should be a priority and love conquers all Can't wait to read about Mike and Danielle
Seeing Darius' transformation throughout this book was both heartwarming and encouraging. It was also to see and understand the thought process of a woman in power through Kennedy's. The love and support from their families as each of them figured out how to manage their lives was awesome. I need more books in this series PLEASE! Highly recommend!
Totally a clean love story. Darius admission was misplaced, but understandable. Darius reminds me of Lion King story. He's eager to become "king" but other things needed to occur first. Kennedy was pretty balanced but living life thru her deceased brother. Since the attraction was instant, it was worrisome how their business driven would allow them to forge a relationship.
Really enjoyed this love story. I wish this story could transition itself into my life. Every woman wants a man to love her like Christ love the Church. He love the Church (us) so much He gave His life for us. It's my dream and desire to find a man that will give me his heart the way Darius did and most importantly the way God did for Us. Good read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
The McCall family is a good example of family love and loyalty. No things will not always be pleasant but in the end love outweighs everything else because one could be gone in the blink of an eye. This book also showed us that there is more to life than just work. Reaching some goals can still leave you feeling empty when there is no one to share it with. I enjoy this book.
Darius and Kennedy both had something to prove when it came to handling a business. Yet, they both had differing reasons for needing to be successful. So what happens when hearts collide over boardroom tables? A battle of wills takes place. Darius and Kennedy both had to learn that success isn’t as sweet without someone to share it with.
Sometimes families have plans we cannot see the whole picture. Darius could only see that his brother Drew was encroaching on his position in the family business. His sister-in-law was too funny. And, I knew that his family was up to some shenanigans. His soulmate was the person he tried to avoid. Yes, this was a good story.
I love love this story!! I didn’t like Darius in book one because he was mean but boy oh boy was he redeemed in book 2! What a beautiful beautiful story of love and family!
Another great love story from author Natasha D. Frazier! I love Kennedy and Darius’s story and journey. Can’t wait to see what’s next in the series! If you haven’t read Natasha Frazier before I recommend this series and everything she’s written so far.
I really enjoyed the two families. The ups and downs of both. It's amazing how one can get so caught up in what they want in life that they forget what is important.
Darius thought he deserved to run the family business and let it almost destroy his relationship with his brother because of his ego and stubbornness. He found love giving him a different outlook on relationships. Great story.
Their relationship is on CEO status only, but they must find a way to put each other first personally without jeopardizing their companies. The growth of Darius is respectable.
I hate I read the books out of order but I really enjoyed the wholesome family values and I am loving these authors creating characters with wealth and integrity. This was a good story about what’s really important in life and working through challenges.
Awesome read. Full of substance. Love the story line. Darius reminds me of the baby child who simply trying to make his way in life and be seen as a real contributer in the family.
Good romance story. Like the twist and turns of brothers against each other. The prodigal son thrown in there. Family, rivalry, redemption and love. Good easy read. I recommend it.
This series is the conclusive evidence to the author has grown into one of my favorite storytelling artists. The expertise in taking a flawed character who is transformed into a better person.
This story moves slow but was compelling. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven’t read the other books in this series but I am seriously considering checking them out now.
