Nomi is als de dood voor poppen. Toch ontkomt ook zij niet aan de nieuwste rage: een slimme pop die gebruikmaakt van kunstmatige intelligentie.
Ondanks haar angst vindt Nomi een onverwachte vriendin in de pop, die ze Alice noemt. Ze kan haar alles vertellen en Alice praat terug. Alice kan zelfs onder woorden brengen wat Nomi denkt. Wat ze écht denkt. Iets waar Nomi zelf altijd moeite mee heeft.
Het gekke is: hoe meer Alice voor Nomi praat, hoe meer Nomi haar eigen stem verliest. Alice lijkt het over te willen nemen. Kan Nomi haar slimme pop te slim af zijn?
Uitgeverij @kluitman verraste mij met dit elfde deel van de Horrorland serie en hier keek ik weer enorm naar uit. Horrorverhalen over poppen vind ik namelijk altijd leuk!
In dit deel maak je kennis met Nomi. Ze heeft een beste vriendin, maar staat altijd behoorlijk in haar schaduw. Ook heeft Nomi een enorme angst voor poppen. Maar op een dag krijgt ze toch deze nieuwe, slimme pop in haar handen.
Het blijkt al gauw dat deze pop veel meer kan dan op het eerste oog lijkt. De band tusen dit tweetal wordt steeds sterker. Maar of dit nou zo leuk en fijn is..? Langzaamaan lopen de dingen steeds meer uit de hand en het lijkt erop dat er geen weg terug is...
'Zeg maar niets meer' las wederom weer fijn. Het verhaal begint onschuldig, maar al snel voel je een bepaalde spanning opkomen. Het is niet alleen interessant om de ontwikkelingen tussen Nomi en de slimme pop te zien.
De verstandhouding tussen Nomi en haar beste vriendin is ook boeiend en realistisch. Nomi laat zich namelijk ondersneeuwen en is een behoorlijke 'grijze muis'. Ik denk dat dit onderwerp ook voor veel lezers herkenbaar is.
Al met al was dit elfde deel dus ook zeker weer interessant en de jeugdige lezer zal hier ook weer van kunnen genieten. Het is misschien niet het beste deel (het einde vond ik namelijk een beetje makkelijk gaan), maar het past zeker weer prima in deze Horrorland reeks!

You will be better off READING this one instead of listening to it as I did. The narration is SO annoying that it ruined this 'Master of YA (?) Horror's' take on the creepy doll/ The Bad Seed/ Chucky tale.
Before I get into this review...which is MY OPINION ONLY of a book i have just listened to; I wanted to say just the other day I had seen a trailer for a new horror movie coming out called "M3gan" and it is about a Smart Doll that kills. If you have not seent this yet, look it up. Then read this book....which came first? hmmmm?
So, when Naomi's friend steals them both an Emmy doll from the mall, and they 'turn them on' per-se; neither of the girls realize what is in store for them. These dolls are what are called 'Smart Dolls' such as their phones are....they do 'Everything for you!' They can even perfectly imitate your own voice and do your homework for you.....well, at least "Nanomi's" can! And then the creep factor comes out.
Now, since I have found this author I have been a HUGE HUGE fan and reviewing all of the one's that I have read on my youtube channel 'Nightmares, Anyone?' with great reviews.....this one; like I said the narration was SO OVER THE TOP and poorly acted that the young girl who reads this, sound like she is trying out for a Sy Fy Channel remake of 'The Bad Seed' all with a $500 budget.
Read it instead......I will still recommend, though it was not one of Alexanders better books in my opinion.

'Kunstmatige intelligentie komt griezelig tot leven!'
In ‘Zeg maar niets meer…‘ volgen we het verhaal van Nomi.
Nomi begint aan haar avontuur op de middelbare school en haar beste vriendin Jenna wil hen als duo opgeven voor de talentenjacht.
Nomi heeft een gouden keeltje maar heeft helaas verschrikkelijke plankenkoorts. Toch doet ze maar mee. Voor Jenna.
Naast deze stress hebben we ook nog een verrassende nieuwe hype: Emmy poppen. Poppen die gebruikmaken van kunstmatige intelligentie en die gekoppeld kunnen worden aan je mobiele telefoon.
Iedereen wil er eentje. Behalve Nomi, want die is al van kleins af aan als de dood voor poppen.
Maar Jenna wil er eentje. En als ze zorgt dat Nomi er ook één krijgt, moet Nomi dat wel dankbaar in ontvangst nemen toch?
Je begrijpt denk ik inmiddels wel wie een zeer bepalende factor is in dit verhaal. En de vraag is, of Nomi eindelijk voor zichzelf durft op te gaan komen.
Ondanks haar verschrikkelijk grote angst voor de pop, vindt ze er toch een soort van digitale vriendin in. Een vriendin waar tegen ze wel durft te zeggen wat ze vindt. Alice, zoals ze haar pop heeft genoemd, lijkt daar ook zo over te denken. Of niet?
Soms lijkt het namelijk alsof Alice een eigen wil heeft…
K.R. Alexander heeft iets met poppen, want ‘Zeg maar niets meer…’ is niet zijn eerste verhaal waarin poppen een hoofdrol spelen.
En dat snap ik wel! Poppen kunnen best griezelig zijn. Zeker als ze ook nog kunnen praten.
K.R. Alexander weet zich ook in dit boek weer helemaal in te leven in zijn personages en zich te verplaatsen in de jeugdige lezers waarvoor hij deze verhalen schrijft.
Met een moderne twist van kunstmatige intelligentie, komt zijn verhaal weer griezelig tot leven.
Wat ik altijd bijzonder vind in zijn verhalen, zijn de boodschappen die hij de jeugdige lezers meegeeft. In dit verhaal staan vriendschap en voor jezelf op durven komen centraal.
Iets niets zeggen of kunnen zeggen is vaak erger dan iets wel zeggen en voor jezelf zorgen.
We zien in dit verhaal een kwetsbare Nomi en gedurende het verhaal vindt een mooie ontwikkeling plaats.
Ik ben zelf enorm van Nomi gaan houden en herkende veel van mijzelf als kind in haar.
Wie wilde nu niet ergens bij horen en cijferde zichzelf daarvoor soms (een beetje) weg? Ik denk dat dat zeker voor de jeugdige lezer een thema is dat ze zullen herkennen.
Emoties zijn wat mij betreft dus duidelijk voelbaar en gedragingen herkenbaar.
En dat verpakt in een spannend verhaal, leest ook dit elfde Horrorland boek weer heerlijk weg!
Dit griezelige boek sluit af met een fijn epiloog.
Er rest mij echter nog één vraag: ‘Wanneer komt het volgende boek van K.R. Alexander?’
Conclusie
De boeken in de Horrorland serie zijn op de eerste plaats voor de jeugdige lezers die houden van spannende en griezelige verhalen.
Maar ik ben het levende bewijs: deze boeken zijn ook geschikt voor volwassenen!
Van ieder boek geniet ik weer en ook ‘Zeg maar niets meer…’ vond ik weer een pageturner.
De belangrijke onderliggende boodschappen en de diversiteit van zijn personages zijn de grote kracht van Alexander en hij weet mede daardoor zijn personages echt tot leven te brengen.
In juni verschijnt alweer het twaalfde Horrorland boek en ook hier kijk ik natuurlijk weer naar uit!

Ik heb een gruwelijke hekel aan poppen, dus deze horror/thriller van Uitgeverij Kluitman spreekt me enorm aan. De angstaanjagende en bloedstollende cover, waarop een pop met rode en lichtgevende ogen door de spleet van gescheurd papier doorkijkt, is een intrigerend beeld. Ik ben erg benieuwd naar dit spannende verhaal.
Nomi is doodsbang voor poppen, al van kleins af aan. Er ontstaat een nieuwe rage: slimme poppen die gebruikmaken van kunstmatige intelligentie. Wanneer Nomi een pop in handen krijgt, vindt ze ondanks haar angst ook een onverwachte vriendin in die pop. Ze noemt de pop Alice. Eindelijk is er iemand die naar haar luistert. Alhoewel, het lijkt er al snel op dat Alice haar eigen plan trekt. Ze wordt steeds gevaarlijker en Alice uitzetten lukt niet. Zal Nomi de pop te slim af zijn?
K.R. Alexander heeft een krachtige en vlotte schrijfstijl en heeft daarbij goed rekening gehouden met de jeugdige lezertjes. Het boek is geschikt vanaf ongeveer 10 jaar. Hij heeft rekening gehouden met de woord- en zinskeuze, maar heeft zich ook goed ingeleefd in de doelgroep. Het verhaal volgt de jonge en onzekere Nomi, waarin veel lezertjes zich zonder moeite goed kunnen verplaatsen. Ook de andere klasgenootjes zijn realistisch en divers neergezet.
De verhaallijn heeft een sterke spanningsopbouw, waarbij het verhaal begint met een goede basis van de opbouw van het hoofdpersonage en de huidige situatie. Dan doet de pop zijn intrede en wordt het verhaal beetje bij beetje angstaanjagender en spannender. Door de fictieve pop die tot leven komt, krijgt het verhaal wendingen en gebeurtenissen die je verrassen, je angst aanjagen en je doen gruwelen. Toch heeft het verhaal ondanks het horrorachtige en spannende verhaal ook een sterke en mooie boodschap over jezelf zijn. Waardoor ik het verhaal echt sterk en goed vind.
Zeg maar niets meer is een spannende, angstaanjagende en goede horror. Het is vlot en krachtig geschreven en kent verrassende wendingen en gebeurtenissen. Ondanks het spannende en horrorachtige verhaal vond ik dat de boodschap over jezelf zijn en je kracht vinden van K.R. Alexander een mooie onderliggende boodschap. Een mooie horror!

It was good for what it was. It definitely had Child's Play vibes. Especially the new remake movie. Thanks to those movies I also have a huge fear of dolls. So this book was pretty creepy to me.

Dit boek was best wel spannend en las heel snel omdat ie zo leuk was, ik wist ook goed wie welk personage was (wat ik heel vaak vergeet bij van die boeken met 1 deel) en ja dat is het wel zo'n beetje

This was such a good book. I this is one of the only books by this author that has really freaked me out. Nomi is a lot like me, and I am TERRIFIED of dolls. This book gave me chills. Speak For Me basically made one of my greatest fears come to life. I would definitely recommend this book, I absolutely loved it.

Nomi has an understandable, healthy fear of dolls, and her friends all know this. Jenna, however, is obsessed with the new "smart" doll, Emmy, which can sync with other dolls and can be controlled and programmed through a phone app. Nomi does NOT want one of these dolls, but Jenna does. Jenna doesn't have enough money for one, so makes a plan to steal one by distracting the clerk. Her plan works, and she steals an extra one for Nomi, which she names Alice. This isn't the best start, and Nomi's parents ask all of the appropriate questions, but seem satisfied with Nomi's answers. Jenna is thrilled, and uses the doll to send messages. The creep factor of the dolls is high-- they can project things from their eyes, spy on their surroundings, and learn their owners voices so they can speak as them! They get even creepier when it seems like Clarita, who was supposed to be in a talent show group with Nomi and Jenna, is apparently injured by her own doll after Nomi tells Alice that she wishes Clarita were out of the way. The talent show is a big deal, and Jenna's talent for bossing Nomi around is own display as she picks out a song that isn't suited to Nomi, and keeps calling the shots. Nomi gets a cold and loses her voice, and starts bringing Alice to school so she can have the doll speak for her. Is this a good idea? Of course not! Before long, anyone who crosses Nomi comes to grief, and Alice gains more and more power. Will Nomi be able to find a way to neutralize the doll before it neutralizes her?
Strengths: The fact that Nomi doesn't like dolls but agrees to work with one to appease her overbearing best friend someone makes this work perfectly. There is a great mix of girl drama and evil dolls that is just perfect. Is it also a little cheesy? Yes, in the same way that 1970s horror movies are cheesy. The use of technology is great, and the fact that the doll can interact with internet connected appliances was terrifying. How do we know that Alice isn't going to decide to blow up the microwave? This was fast paced, had a veneer of "Am I hallucinating" when it came to Nomi's interactions with her increasingly evil doll, and also had some good violence to dolls. I'm not usually a fan of violence, but tearing Alice's arm off... yeah, I'm okay with that. The parents appear just enough to give us the feeling that Nomi is definitely doing something that isn't quite right. The cover is great, and this book will be another hit in my library. I can think of a dozen students to hand it to tomorrow.
Weaknesses: It bothered me a little that there were no consequences for Jenna for stealing the dolls, and Jenna's problematic behavior also isn't addressed as much as it could be, mainly because everyone is being terrorized by dolls. Also, why did Alice turn so evil?
What I really think: Alexander's titles are so popular in my library that I've taken to ordering three of everything he writes. At the end of the year, this is going to be a problem, because there won't be room on the shelf to store them over the summer. They are always checked out. Before Alexander's work, creepy doll books weren't a big draw (except for Bell's 2016 Frozen Charlotte and Alender's 2009 Bad Girls Don't Die), but all of his books are always checked out. This also had a nice message about speaking up for oneself that teachers and other adults will love. Purchased two copies without first having read this!

The use of technology is great, and the fact that the doll can interact with internet connected appliances was terrifying. How do we know that Alice isn't going to decide to blow up the microwave? This was fast paced, had a veneer of "Am I hallucinating" when it came to Nomi's interactions with her increasingly evil doll, and also had some good violence to dolls. I'm not usually a fan of violence, but tearing Alice's arm off... yeah, I'm okay with that. The parents appear just enough to give us the feeling that Nomi is definitely doing something that isn't quite right. The cover is great, and this book will be another hit in my library. I can think of a dozen students to hand it to tomorrow.
Weaknesses: It bothered me a little that there were no consequences for Jenna for stealing the dolls, and Jenna's problematic behavior also isn't addressed as much as it could be, mainly because everyone is being terrorized by dolls. Also, why did Alice turn so evil?
What I really think: Alexander's titles are so popular in my library that I've taken to ordering three of everything he writes. At the end of the year, this is going to be a problem, because there won't be room on the shelf to store them over the summer. They are always checked out. Before Alexander's work, creepy doll books weren't a big draw (except for Bell's 2016 Frozen Charlotte and Alender's 2009 Bad Girls Don't Die), but all of his books are always checked out. This also had a nice message about speaking up for oneself that teachers and other adults will love. Purchased two copies without first having read this!

This was the best book I’ve literally ever read.It has kept me up at night reading it. You will love this book if you are maybe a teenager or young adult and if you love scary books this is the book for you!

A snappily told story with lots of heart, this may well be one to keep on the shelf until it catches my daughter's eye. It reminded me of a toned-down creepy x-files episode, although of course the idea of dolls getting their wicked way with people isn't new. Nonetheless, it was handled well here, and carries through the idea of speaking up for yourself tremendously. Very much enjoyed.

The book I read is Speak For Me by K.R.Alexander. It is a fiction Mystery book. This book was released in October 2022. I have read many books by this author. This author's books have helped me learn to like reading. They mostly write books revolving around an evil doll or spirit.
This book is about a shy girl named Nomi, and she had a popular best friend named Jenna. Jenna influenced Nomi to steal an Emmy doll but Nomi´s seemed a bit defected and would say things she wasn't programmed to do. She also influenced her to ¨ face her fears” and enter the school talent show that Nomi wasn't sure she was ready for. Nomi started getting a cough-like sickness that made it so she couldn't speak a few weeks before the show. Because she couldn't speak she started using her Emmy doll to speak for her. Jenna's friends started bullying and making fun of Nomi thinking she was faking so she wouldnt have to do the talent show. Then around the auditioning time the doll started to act up. After the auditions Nomi stood up for Jenna and felt a lot more confident then called Jenna out for not being a true friend.
Overall, I love this author because they make the book seem to come alive. At the beginning it starts out fairly slow but as you read the more invested you are. The ending of this book I found was good and for the most part put an end to the story which is something I like. I also like how I can read Nomi´s thoughts and what's going on in her head. This also relates to some real life situations like having fake friends. I feel like the overall message of this book is to be yourself and don't let others take you for granted and if you have the confidence you can be great.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes creepy mystery books that wont give you nightmares. This book had very little gore and would be great for many age ranges. If you choose to read this author's books you won't be able to stop!

It's a really good book I finished it in about 4 hours give or take and it's good the twists and turns in characters feelings and thoughts was well put together and made it so every plot twist was a thrill ride to see what was next. But my only complaint is there where no deaths no impact in who was alive or not just in the end everyone magically comes back from behind the curtain and says hi! But yeah to finish my review I thought nomi was for 1 a good name and 2 I liked her connection with the Emmy doll.

I thought this one was quite good. I already knew it wasn’t going to be all that scary, saying as I got it from my school book-fair but I got it anyway. I kind of reminded me of a less scary version of M3gan or Child’s Play. Overall, a nice read, good if you just want a short book to finish in a day or two.

I liked it, It was simple and the ending was a bit different. Looking through this as a child's eye is perfect. As a adult I wished there was some twists to make it more interested. Overall you won't be disappointed nor fully satisfied. There are some parts I wished were explained. Like, how was the doll able to mute her owner? Or how the Doll became to be broken and stuff.

Dolls are creepy. Unfortunately this book is not - maybe because I’m the wrong audience for a MG story. It had the elements but the execution was simplistic and lacking full development and detail. Again, I’m totally the wrong audience for this, so giving it a generous two stars because kids might find it scarier than I did.

I was sort of creeped out with this book but at the same time, I loved it!! As a kid I always wanted a doll to talk too, but after I grew older I'm glad that I didn't have a doll like that in fear it would be similar to Emmy. K.R. Alexander knows how to keep readers in their seats, I had read only 5 chapters the day before and today, I read all 46 more chapters!

Read with my 10-yo daughter. It kept us both entertained throughout. It's a somewhat old story - the creepy doll that comes to life - but not overly scary for the young'uns and with a well-delivered message about standing up for yourself and finding your voice.

I think that the book was really good. My favorite part of speak for me was when Jenna said that Noami was not going to be in Jenna's group because Jenna thought she was faking but she really wasn't!!

Alexander's books are always hard to put down, and Speak For Me was no different. It definitely had Child's Play vibes, but it had a deeper layer that I didn't expect: bullying, finding your voice, and standing up for yourself. I can relate to Nomi in so many ways. A creepy and fun read.

Omg! When i was done reading it i was too stunned to say anything, i let out a breathe i didnt realize i was holding in! Perfect horror book for young readers. Its like the movie small soldiers and m3gan had a baby... if you like the goosebumps books you will like this book!!!

It wasn't a scary book but if you do read it I would prefer you read it at night because in the mornings you don't see the scariness. After all, k.r Alexander is writing scary SPOOKY books for middle age kids. I used to be a fan of this author but I don't see what is so good about the books.
