While visiting a dog show, Buzz and Fly Guy learn all about man's best friend! From exploring different breeds, to famous dogs throughout history, to learning all about working dogs and more, there's plenty for the best friends to explore.
Award-winning author-illustrator Tedd Arnold brings nonfiction to life for beginning readers in the next book in the kid-favorite Fly Guy Presents series. There are humorous illustrations and engaging photographs throughout. And the front cover features eye-catching holographic foil!
Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.
He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.
He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.
Thought this was a cute book for kids about dogs. It contains some helpful information such as the fact that different breeds have different personalities and to leave service animals alone to perform their work. However, it's a pretty dense book and I suspect its readability skews higher than the K-2nd grade range that is recommended on it. Definitely skews as more of a "biology book about dogs" and *not* a book I'd point parents to if they asked "what book should I get for my child who thinks they want a dog?"
I didn't realize Fly Guy was popular enough to sell science books. Here Fly Guy and Buzz talk about dogs: where they came from, different breeds and traits, etc. Like the cover, there's photos of dogs mixed with illustrations of our narrators. Would work as a good foundation for a child doing a report.
This book was one of many in the Fly Guy series, but this one was great because it's all about dogs! It provides a ton of great facts about dogs ranging from Pekingese to Wolves to Bulldogs. It also provides lots of stats about dogs like a dog's nose is 1,000 times more sensitive than a human's! If you love dogs and love the Fly Guy series, this is a must-read!
There's a photo of a setter and her pups next to the text talking about how Dalmatian pups are born white. Oops! In the publisher's defense it's mislabeled on Getty Images, but it should have been caught in proof reading.
While attending a dog show Buzz and Fly Guy learn all about the different types of dogs, and their history. Very informative and factual for the young reader who is interested in learning about canines.
A mostly nonfiction book about dogs. I love dogs, and I loved learning about all the different breeds. I was disappointed my favorite type of dog, the Golden retriever, was not pictured. Also I don't think there were any dachshunds.
Super adorable book full of fun facts and dog information. A perfect read for a dog loving kid. My daughter who is in fourth grade loved this book so much.
