Young widow Davinder Jones is struggling to navigate being a bestselling author and single mother to her twin boys when she’s invited to help with her book’s film adaptation. She signs on but determines to keep her sons— and her tragic past— hidden from those in Tinsel Town. When Zachery Blazer, Hollywood’s favorite bad boy, is cast in the movie and begins spending time with Davin on the lot, his appreciation for her book turns into a crush he can’t ignore. After being blacklisted for two years following a DUI, Zach is on thin ice with the studio and shouldn’t push his luck by pursuing the reluctant author. But when has Zach ever followed the rules?
Though impulsive and stubborn, Zach is also gorgeous and surprisingly kind, and Davin’s affected indifference towards him unravels when he charms his way through her carefully crafted walls. But as Zach continues to push his way into her life, Davin knows it’s only a matter of time before he learns the truth about her past, and the two will have to decide if their obvious connection is strong enough to survive life outside the magic of Hollywood.
This book couldn't have been more fun to read. I have to admit I fell for Zach right away. (What's not to like?! A hottie with a heart, sign me up!) However, the main character, Davinder, needed a lot more convincing than me. I spent most of the book rooting for this couple. It was definitely the flirty, romantic read I needed.
Author Davin Jones and Actor Zach Blazer are nothing alike. Davin is a widowed mom of two 4 year old twin boys and Zach is a handsome, bad boy who has become more famous for his bad decisions than his movies recently. When fate decides to force these two to work together on the movie adaptation of Davin's novel, they can't help the feelings that spring up between them. This book explores ways of dealing with grief, redemption and allowing yourself to move on and grow. I couldn't help but root for this unexpected couple from the start.
Thank you WRDS publishing for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
From the beginning of this book, I enjoyed the characters in this story and how the book was set up to go from one person to the other. It showed you how each side could be seeing things from a different perspective. This was a true love story. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone. J.R. Luis has done a wonderful job with her first book and I look forward to reading more from her!
If you're a fan of romance novels, then LUCKY STAR is the book for you! This debut novel, written by the talented J.R. Luis, will take you on a thrill of a ride as two would-be star-crossed lovers realize loss, emotional walls, and misjudgments can heal through the magic of love.
I crossed over genres from psychological thriller to romance with J.R. Luis’s debut novel and I wasn’t disappointed with the change of pace. It was the right combination of a slow burn with some twists and turns. I look forward to reading more from this up and coming author.
This book made me so happy. I loved the characters and the voice, and I liked that it wasn't a will-they-won't-they story - it felt like a real journey someone like Davin would take, and I was really happy with how it ended.
