Paranormal Artifacts #4

The Jinxed Jewelry Box

When an heiress with an auction addiction reports all her jewelry stolen then turns up dead, I just know that’s the kinda crazy that has “cursed artifact” written all over it.

The problem, though, is coming up with a way to get into a high-security mansion to prove it. Fortunately, I'm a witch with a lot of magical firepower, a centuries-old shifter, and the town sheriff on my side.

Come hell or high water, I’ll recover that artifact before it kills somebody else - as soon as I figure out what it is and who stole it!

I was born and raised in the South and even hung my motorcycle helmet in Colorado for a few months. I've always had a touch of wanderlust and have never feared just packing up and going on new adventures, whether in real life or via the pages of a great book.

When I was a little girl, I didn't want to grow up to be a writer—I wanted to raise unicorns and be a superhero. When those gigs fell through, I chose the next best thing: creating my own magical lands filled with adventure, magic, humor, and romance.

I live in Florida with my two dogs and when I'm not writing or reading, I'm racing motorcycles with my taller, more handsome half, hanging out at the beach, or binge-watching anything magical on Netflix.

I'm eternally grateful for all the people who help make my life what is today - friends, readers, family. No woman is an island.

The story was really good, but the typos, misuse of words, wrong words, words out of order in a sentence, extra words inserted and missing words, all contributed to me docking a star off this read.
There were enough errors that they kept taking me out of the story. As much as I enjoy Tegan's books, she needs to get herself some proofreaders. These errors were not something you could miss, unfortunately.

Read the book!

Tegan Maher “The jinxed jewelry box”
Tegan Maher is a talented writer who chooses to share her talent for creative writing at the same time, is willing to communicate on her Facebook Page, with those of us who choose 2B entertained by her creative talent! Hmmm, don’t believe me? Go to her Facebook Page and find out!
Creative plot and character development? If like me U enjoy Aqua Green Salt Water Environments, she starts the story with words that triggered for me feelings and smell’s of time spent on or near the Beach! “Cozy Clam” a loving relaxed place? Maybe!
A paper bag with grease spots dropped on her work desk! Hmmm, have U ever been there? I wonder what she was working on? Then we read of a Sword N stretching neck and shoulder tension,
yes but,
Butterfly 🦋 Kisses the smell of garlic N seafood, with words like mouth watering. Kind of fixes things for me!
The first few Plot paragraphs R rich with feelings and smells that most of us can relate2!
Character development…..
“Axel” the “Skunk Familiar” triggers for me memories of my youth when my older brother and I caught a baby Skunk for my Grandfather. He had the local Veterinarian de-scent the little guy and he had a pet he wud bring out on Sunday afternoon’s when my Grandmother’s friends came to visit! I can still see the twinkle in his eyes when they saw what he was holding! My “Granny” helped care for it so I assumed she enjoyed the Sunday afternoons also. I wonder if Sages eyes light up, when people see her familiar for the first time?
Sage is our hero the power that pulls the different characters together. The one who removes the negative or bad magic from a cursed artifact? Sage is what I burn when my Wife’s Spirit seems to be restless and after burning things calm down! I believe this.
We have James, Eli, Jake her twin “two peas in a pod”
Luther and the all important relationship questions! “Jelly or Strawberry Jam?”
A thought I had at the time, when Bayou Dancing, do the Bullfrog Boogie or the Alligator Stomp, with Blues Harp blowing a 12Bar Beat? If U have a favorite while Bayou Dancing anyway!
At the same time, other groups and individuals that she has developed creative characteristics for!
The story ended with a number of unanswered questions so I hoping to see more stories/ books in the series.

entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline. A family of antique/art collectors dealers. The family is a supernatural family of differing magical abilities. The parents and all the children have all gone to school and learn different things in history to specialize in specific categories of art treasure another memorabilia. Well they typically buy and sell to support the family they also seek out cursed objects that need to be examined and the curses removed. Once they do this they can return them to the owners or sell them as a cleansed object. The first book in the series what is the daughter and her best friend going on a dive and finding a small chest at the bottom of the ocean filled with old artifacts. Before she had a chance to examine them completely and remove any curses her sister put them on the sales floor and many of them were snatched up and taken to a charity auction in spread throughout the community. Now the family must check these items down before more people die from the curses. Some Christian just cause damage and sadly some cars death. These are all a quick afternoon read that you can read on the bus or at the beach or anywhere. Extremely entertaining and always fun. Check out all the books by this author

The Plot Quickens

This latest group of troublemaking artefacts to show up th gamut from simple but devious all the way to deadly. When the daughter of a wealthy man drops dead at a charity fundraiser, a cursed jewellery box, part of an auction haul, contains not one but two curses. Plus the man's workshop contains more of the missing artefacts. How do Sage & her hand of magical get them from a house with tighter security than Fort Knox before more deaths occur. Plus not get caught!
I love this series but this one story seemed to abruptly end. That's the only reason I have it four stars. With authors scrambling to get back on schedule after the disruption of the pandemic to keep their fans happy, small things like this happen with all authors. But I'm sticking with Tegan because she's a great & fun writer of strong snarky characters with heart.

I'm just not sure what's going on with these series. This book either wasn't edited or was edited very poorly. Misuse of words, Sage was called Jade at some point, I couldn't figure out if the victims last name was Martel or Mandel, it was interchanged every other sentence. Corner instead of coroner.
The book felt short and aborted, and it never even explained what kind of curse was on the ring that killed Elizbeth Martel (or Mandel?).
It felt rushed, like the author was trying to meet the deadline and just slapped a short story together so she wouldn't miss it.
I love the premise of these series and I keep hoping for a full sized book with well developed characters at some point but it hasn't delivered yet.

Trouble abounds in more ways than one.

Eli and Sage go to a function at the University that Eli's mom works at. A girl that they both remember from school and her younger sister are there also. Suddenly the younger sister dies in front of her sister and Sage and Eli know it was from another artifact they had been looking for. What they aren't prepared for is everything that happens after this event. This cursed treasure series is so much fun to figure out as you go along with Sage,Eli and Luther. Now the wait for the next book in this series is a small curse of its own lol.

Hoping that the next in the series is longer and has better editing.

I really like this series, but the last couple of books have been very short. If the storyline was just a bit richer it would make for a longer, fuller story.
This book’s editing was horrible. I’d just begin to wrap myself in the book and would hit a major mistake and fall out of the weaving of the magic of a good story.

Story is good, editing is awful

This latest of artifact cozy mysteries is not the best, but enjoyable nevertheless. However, it needs to be completely re-edited. Misspelled words, wrong usages, misused tenses...it is just bad. Ms Maher deserves better and before publication would be well served to read her book with an eye on content. The plot moves along very nicely but the editing is so egregious it is distracting from the story.

Fantastic series!

This series is so good! I love getting to follow along as Sage and the other characters work to recover the artifacts. With each book we get to learn more about them and they gain do much more depth. The plot is also well done with a few surprises that'll keep you turning pages until the end!

I love (and follow) this author but this particular series has an inordinate number of editing errors that are simply too egregious to ignore. The number of proofreading flubs totally interrupt my enjoyment and become irritating. This would have earned at least a 4/5 but for this. Really? I expect better (and could do so) since I feel this author certainly deserves better!

I love this series but this book was off

I’m not sure if the author was rushed to get this book out or having trouble with it, but between the grammatical errors and the book not having the usual cohesiveness that the others have had I was sorely disappointed. I really hope the next book gets better or I will have to abandon this series.

Dressed To Kill

The younger sister of one of Sage’s frenemies dies suddenly at a college fundraiser. Leaving Sage to wonder if one of the missing artifacts is to blame, but what if it’s an artifact they didn’t even know existed? If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, Luther has a confession to make……..

Enjoyable

Another interesting entry in this very enjoyable series. The cursed artifact in this case kills a woman so quickly that she dies before the magical aura has time to register on the magical folk tasked with cleansing the cursed items. A nice community with likable inhabitants makes these books fun to read.

Fun quick read

Tegan Maher is one of my favorite authors. I love her characters and their flaws and the connections they form. This book was short but I enjoyed it. I look forward to the rest in this series

Dangerous antiques

As usual, Tegan Maher delivers an intriguing tale about the contents off the chest wrested from the bottom of the sea. Her characters are strong and catch the readers imagination leaving us anxious to read more!

It's not just me...

My only complaint, about a Tegan Maher book, is that it ends far too soon for my liking! If you can binge read them, do, because it would cut that down. I just get too excited when a new book comes out, no way could I wait that long.

Too short

I've read most of the books by this author, and I liked the story. It was way too short though and needs serious editing.

Good

More character development, some questions answered and new ones added. Thus seemed to have left an item out. Hopefully more on the earrings in next book.

This was listed as a Prequel for the series. I'm convinced it was NOT a prequel and it is #4 as noted here. Overall I like the series but I've decided Maher books are just going to be poorly edited. I just can't go above a 3-star rating because of it. I'll continue with the series.
