RAPID REVIEW

"𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙡, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙡, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚."

The story continues as the group is running from Byron and seeking refuge in the Sirian Zone. The second book in The City of Kaus series is filled with espionage, shooting scenes and shape-shifting. This installment picks up immediately where Revenge ended and the reader's heart is in their throat when certain characters make appearances.

A veil of deception is pulled over the eyes of the characters and it's up to Gabe, Ellie, Zach and Cor to reveal the truth. I love Zach, his humour and hunger at the worst of times lightens the mood. The different zones are unique and well described and even though the pace is somewhat different in this book than the first, a lot of planning takes place, the ending had me gasping.
Only Dani Hoots can get me to read sci-fi western.

Many thanks to MTMC Tours and the author for this electronic gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Swashbuckling science-fiction story told from the four main characters perspectives. I enjoyed the humour the most about this book. Well-paced fun read which also had it’s sad and sweet moments.

The gang is back and better than ever. This time around, there are lots of feelings to deal with as Cor integrates back in with the group who thought he'd betrayed them. Still plenty of action, though I do feel this book is a lot more character-driven than plot-driven. Zach never fails to make me laugh, and it was cool to learn more about Gabe and his royal roots. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Not as bad as the first book, but definitely not good. The characters still act like 14-year-olds and repeat themselves far too often. The book is still full of typos. The 5-page chapters, each from a different first-person perspective, still leave the readers having to remind themselves who "I" is at any given moment. And the worldbuilding is still nonexistent.

In this book, the gang seems to be both on the run from and at the same time trying to take down Byron, the evil mastermind from Book 1.

I think the reason I didn’t enjoy this one as much as Book 1 was, because I felt like it suffered from middle book syndrome, where not a lot seems to be happening. Compared to book 1 there really was only one major event, which made for a jarring change of pace. Throughout the course of the book the gang seems to be trying to deal with the fall out from book , but I don’t think that any of the internal strife gets resolved.

I think if you enjoyed book 1 of the series, you should still give Book 2 a try. Personally, I’m currently undecided whether I will be continuing the series

second book in the sci-fi western series

Running from the Silurians and Byron, the gang heads to the Sirian kingdom.

Again I am in such awe at the cover. The colors are amazing and it perfectly captures each character.

The sci-fi western genre is really pulling me in. There is so much action. I loved the voices of each character. There is so much personality there, and sometimes I laughed out loud. The ending was intense, and I’m jumping into the next book immediately.

However, the book is both slow and fast paced. Switching between the POVs adds to the intensity, but it also drags on some of the intense moments, as we see the same thing from multiple perspectives.

Overall, the ending won the book over for me, especially with that cliffhanger.

Retribution was as fantastic as Revenge, if not a little better. I love these characters. Love them! They are all little cinnamon rolls that you just want to love and take care of for one reason or another. This series is so much fun to read. Plus they are fast paced and keep you entertained the whole way.

The second book picks up right after the events of book one and follows the team as they try to hide from Byron and go to the Silurian Zone. Where it just so happens that Gabe’s mother is the monarch. Which makes Gabe a prince!

Gabe and the others do their best to convince his mother about Byron’s treachery. But will they be able to do it in time, before another tragedy strikes? You’ll have to read Retribution to find out.

Perhaps better than the first one. Same issues with poor worldbuilding, clumsy dialogue and little description of a world that sounds interesting.

Refraining from rating as not part of the target demographic.

While there are less technical issues with this one, it still feels like a first draft.

Retribution picks up right where Revenge ended, and the action never slows down. Our Sci-Fi Western friends are under the sea to Gabe’s home. The story is told by all 4 POV’s, but it focuses more on Gabe and his life before he meets his friends.
Although the story is very action-packed, there are sad and heartbreaking moments, with some humor to lighten the mood when needed.
Dani does an excellent job telling Gabe’s story and the ending will leave you wanting more.
Thank you to Dani Hoots for this early copy of the eArc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
