Rate this book
In response to public demand, this album has been produced in an effort to tell the story in pictorial form of the "Battle of Bogside", which took place in Derry on the 12th and 13th August 1969. The Battle of Bogside will go down in Irish History as a victory for the ordinary people of Bogside, who after the battle declared the Bogside area as "Free Derry".
Proceeds from this album will go towards constructing a hall to facilitate an ever increasing membership of the Bogside Republican Movement.

The Battle of the Bogside was a very large communal riot that took place from 12 to 14 August 1969 in Derry, Northern Ireland. The fighting was between residents of the Bogside area organized under the Derry Citizens' Defence Association, and the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) along with local unionists. I saw from rarehistoricalphotos.com a stunning photo of some very productive "Girls making petrol bombs during the Battle of the Bogside". That made me want to learn more and I came across this photo essay booklet published by "The Bogside Republican Appeal Fund". It shows moments of the battle from both sides with very cheeky captions. The photos are B&W and often capturing violent action, including some of those "petrol bombs" going off.
