I was excited to read screenwriting for dummies. And it did not disappointment.
One think I like from the book where where the author says write what you want to know. She was saying that people say write what you know and then she said she though you should write what you want to know.
I never thought of that. If I write about about something I want to know about I will be excited to do the research and conduct interviews. So I thought that was a great idea.
Screenwriting for dummies goes through everything from coming up story ideas to writing loglines, outlines, how to write the first draft, revise it. And it also talks about how to get your script in front of people who can turn it into a movie.
I also like the chapter that talks about the 10 screenwriters the author things you should know. I recognized two of the names spke lean and Nora ephron. I did not know the rest of them.
The book also talks about alternatives to the 3 act structure. Like the five act or 8 act structures. It also talks about writing for web series.
As I was reading the book I thought I don't want to go through all the work of wiring loglines, and outlines and don't research. I thought why do I need to do all that. I want to get to writing a screenplay as fast as I can. Why do all that research.
When I finished reading the book I looked through the book again. And thought about it. Writing loglines, and outlines might be fun. After all I have never finished a screenplay so what do I know about writing screenplays.
So even thought it takes a lot of work to write a good screenplay I might like to write one after all. It will take more work that I thought. But, if it were easy everyone would be doing it.
