Make music with this hands-on introduction to the four instrument families: drums, horns, strings, and voice in this new board book series by a world-renown music educator.
What do a trumpet, a tuba, and a conch shell have in common? They are all horns! This first introduction to instruments in the horn family begins with a simple explanation of what defines a horn. Young readers are then invited on a global exploration of a variety of brass and wind instruments and are encouraged to find horns of their own in the world around them.
Each title in the THIS IS MUSIC series features an interactive novelty musical element that invites the reader to play the book!
This board book series is a fabulous way to introduce littles to the world of music -- and while they are board books, they carry well into older audiences, including preschool, primary school, and even early elementary school. The format is accessible for the youngest consumers, as is the overall concept, but Rajan includes sophisticated vocabulary and concepts that make it appropriate for somewhat older audiences as well. The main concept is that horns BLOW! The author mentions the traditional musical horns we think of, but also introduces readers to the dung-chen horn and the vuvuzela. She brings it to the level that ALL kids are familiar with -- the trucker's horn! She then shows kids how they can create their own very simple horn and ends with a signature interactive element. Kids will love this interactive board book and all the horns contained inside!
Wonderful introduction to a type of musical instrument. Although there's a lot of text, it's still an easy and engaging read for little ones, and I like the range of common and uncommon horn instruments as well as the acknowledgement of everyday horns.
Great way to start introducing little ones to families in the orchestra. Opportunities for sound effects abound. Some pages are a little wordy for a kid around 1 years old. My 19th month old loves it. Simple, colorful pictures perfect for young kids.
