Rate this book

Her boyfriend was murdered in cold blood and the modus operandi resembles that of India's most notorious serial killer of the 1990s: the Cellotape Killer. He was never caught, and if this indeed was him, then he had resurfaced after twenty-one years.

Ekantika swears to find the killer and get an emotional closure, but what she doesn't know is that in the process she may end up wounding herself irreversibly. Follow this exciting chase as the dark alley turns out to be a twisted labyrinth and it seems the killer is actually coming for . . . her.

Whisper To Me Your Lies is a fast-paced, chilling crime thriller and a poignant tale of a girl's single-minded obsession to find out who altered her life. And why.

I read this book in one sitting!! It was super addictive and thrilling. I have enjoyed author's work in the past as well, and I must say it only keeps getting better.

India's most popular thriller writer comes with another jaw-dropping and exciting plot where we see our main character, Ekantika Pakrashi, who has lost the love of her life Faizaan, a cold blooded murder and is now finding answers.

But little did she know, finding answers would cost her more than she ever could have imagined. The story is no less than a labyrinth search and we get to see 1990s Cello Tape killer's case re-open.

What I liked the most about this book is that every character, be it a police officer or family members of the victim, had a crucial role to play in this book. The twists and turns could definitely had been better and after 50% of the book, it was quite predictable.

Novoneel is an expert in writing twisted tales. He has proved it once again that he is one of the best thriller writers in India.
Ekantika has lost her lover to a cold blooded murder which is similar to the cello-tape serial murders which took place in the 90's. She is hell bent on finiding the killer who took away the love of her life.
You see, obsession is dangerous thing. It will make a person go crazy and do things.
I didnt quite like the narration but i liked the story hence the 3 stars.

This has to be hands down one of the best thrillers I have read in a while, and that too set in India. The plot starts with the murder of Ekantika Pakrashi’s boyfriend in a style that was used by a serial killer in the 90s, this is his first kill after 20 years, only it’s not. The way each chapter has a plot twist, each chapter contributes to the story and isn’t just something to fill pages, there are a few OhhMyyGod moments as well but the last twist almost made me want to throw the book at something or someone. I’m still not quite out of what happened and why the writer did what he did. But I’m happy. It was a spine chilling book, kept me on the edge ALL THE TIME, while also not being too overwhelming. Novoneel Chakraborty indeed has done a great job at creating this masterpiece.

Being my first Novoneel Chakraborty read, what I liked most about this book was that the storyline kept me hooked and the writing style too was proficient.

In the 1990’s India’s most notorious killer called as the Cello Tape Killer was on the loose and had resurfaced again after twenty one years. Ekantika who is the main protagonist of the story has lost the love of her life Faizaan Ahmad. After the killing of Faizaan and his ex Nagma, the whole story transpires by taking us ahead with more killings and more clues which will ultimately end us with the name of the killer. The story keeps us hooked as more prominent characters are brought into the view as they keep on playing their roles which are necessary for the story.
After reaching half the plot, the end becomes predictable in part ways.

This crime thriller may seem like a normal revenge story as described in the blurb of the book however a-lot goes inside this story that will partly shock you and partly amaze you. The personality of UKC made me remind of the character of the Woman by the window.

I did enjoy the writing style as well as I was hooked but the sexual content in this book was majorly the part that disappointed me a bit as well as there were some clues which could have overlooked early.

Ekantika, an only child of her mother, living in the capital of India far away from her home just to crack the exam of UPSC and has been working hard for it and when her eyes met with faizaan Ahmed she felt herself attracted towards him in a way like she never felt with anyone.

He also studies at the same coaching classes where ekantika is, they met in a bar when Ekantika was making drinks as she was working as a mixer and that time she was experimenting with something, faizaan asks for a drink from her and she says that she is not what he is thinking.

That small talk lead them to become good friends with each other and later they savoured each other and became love birds and started living with each other and after two years when they came back from dinner, he was parking the car and ekantika went to freshen up, later he found dead in his car, died because of cello tape stick to his nose and mouth and hand-tied.

Faizaan death opens an old case of a Cello tape killer who was never got arrested because the police never got hold of him, everyone is curious about this case and the cello tape killer who is now active once again and killing people one by one.

I am impressed with the story and felt happy to read the novoneel book and this one is also a page-turner.

Lies only makes things worse and in this book, you will see how things turn by one single lie.

If you are into thrilling stories then you can pick this up and I guarantee you will have a good story in the end and a mind-blowing ending.

The book is for 18 plus readers.

As the usual author has left his signature style in this book and wrote an ending that blows our mind and gives an indirect message of Women empowerment.

The only thing I didn't like is to cover.

I feel novoneel Chakraborty writes his story by keeping in mind that he needs to make women more empowered and as far I remember or read his book I felt that he writes stories about women to make them stronger and brave people by showing the cruelty of the world.

Addicting and really easy to read, writing style is easy to follow. When I get to about 50% of the book, I can kinda guess who the killer is…but the twist at the end is SO GOOD.

Though, I am not much fan of crime thriller or serial killer stories, but this one was so good. I really couldn't have guessed the ending, there were so many twists and turns. This book will keep you hooked till the end as each chapter ends in a cliffhanger. I was so desperate to know who the killer was, thus, finished it in just two sittings. The end was quite satisfactory and did justice to the story. Narration could have been better.

I have read many of Novoneel Chakraborty books, and I liked this most after the stranger trilogy. Definitely, the best thriller writer in India.

My first time reading a crime thriller by an Indian writer, and I am completely blown away!! From the twisted story setting to brilliant writing style, Novoneel Chakraborty had me hooked till the end without any breaks.

Whisper To Me Your Lies is a story about a revenge of a girl who is compulsively obsessed to find out who altered her life and why. Ekantika Prakashi is from a small town Baruipur, West Bengal. She came to Delhi to pursue her dream of becoming an IAS officer and give her mother, who single handedly raised her, a lavish life and repay her back everything. Ekantika had never come in close proximity, emotionally or otherwise with any male kind. But things changed when she met Faizaan Ahmad in Delhi ,fell head-to-toe in love with him and started living in together. Things were going smoothly until Faizan was murdered in cold blood by the 'Cellotape Serial Killer'. Ekantika swears to find the killer of her lover and that is where secrets of the past start unfolding.

The story is full of twists and turns, with each chapter ending with a cliff hanger. It kept me awake for a whole night, with 'my own obsession' to find the killer.

If you are a lover of crime thriller or is looking for a good thriller novel, I highly recommend you this. Go for it. Looking forward for more from the author.

Expected more from Novoneel.
It was quite predictable and at a point became unbearable. I had to push myself to finish reading the book, which btw never happened with his other books.
I love his work and so I was really excited to read this one. But it didn't work for me.
You can still go for this one if you haven't read any of his work before.
But if you have, there's nothing new in this book.
Although the buildup and the suspense was nice but not to the level that it could keep me on the edge of my seat. Really disappointed. Anyway better luck next time.
Definitely waiting for his next book with a hope that he won't disappoint again. :)

Novoneel Chakraborty could've been an outstanding Indian author if he had taken a different route to create this not-so-grounded crime thriller story with erotic scenes that were force-fit like... (you know what).

The story was bleak till the first half, and when it started to pick up, it shrivelled again until there was nothing, creating enough space in my mind, to question why I bought this book in the first place at full price.

Is this what Indian readers assume is the best of literature? Is this why it's the best seller? If so, for the love of Gods, literature and poetry, please don't set such books as a benchmark for Indian literature.

The brilliant work the author has done is narrating multiple plot lines running parallel to each other with seemingly very little connection but end up getting interwined with each other presents to you almost the perfect picture.

The final identity of the killer is shocking and the way the story is paced along is certain to give you a few chills. An extremely intense book setting new standards for Indian crime thriller novels! The only thing I didn't like is the cover of the book.

It should be something according to the story and should be sexy enough to attract more readers. In short more eye catching. kudos !!!! A MUST READ NOVEL.

Psychopathic thriller masquerading as thriller. (Long ago, I read that in a thriller, the reader knows who the killer is, & it remains to be proven. In a "detective story/ novel", the reader only knows what the detective knows, & moves with the detective's progress)
In this novel, Novoneel Chakraborty tries to do too many things. Is this a thriller? A police procedural? A girl-power shot? A BDSM porn?
To speak for the book, the author makes an effortful attempt to highlight the maddening range of difficulties & harassment faced by women in society.
& the book is an okay psychopathic thriller. The main twist of the novel is okay.
The characters are unlikeable & unpalatable ...
The main detective is bland & one-dimensional.
What kind of man, when his girlfriend disappears, just accepts the police's " she went away voluntarily" version & call it "ghosting"? What kind of woman, upon hearing this, feels not the dread of a woman been forced to disappear, either by criminals, or by insanity, & thinks of her as "other woman"?
The author keeps on describing the forced sex, calls it "depravity" himself, one of the officers routinely abuses another, which is dealt with with casual coolness later in the novel... the sex in the novel all seems too much for any purpose, not demanded by the plot ...
There are as many factual inconsistencies,
How does anybody name their child "Ekantika" (she of the solitude)?
Was chloroform medically used as late as 1992? 2021? ???????

Blood changed the colour of the pregnancy strip? Blood will simply seep into the visible area of the strip & colour it? Does the device work like that?
Is "mixology" really a career which can be pursued by "work from home"?
Suddenly a hitherto straight officer became homosexual?

Very disappointingly - this is a Penguin !!!! - the book has many grammatical errors, which are not even colloquialisms, simply wrong English. & also very disappointingly, the book smacks of subtle, ruling-party - line-toeing Islamophobia.

Another psychological thriller by my fav Indian author. I can never hate his books, I can't describe how much I love his writing style & works, he never disappoints me. And I always pick his books wherever I’m in a reading slump, & it works like magic. So, I finished reading this a few days back, and I still can't get over what I read; well, this happens every time I read his books. I devoured this book in just 2 days. It's indeed a story of lies told in many different ways.

Our main character in the story is Ekantika, a 22 year old from Kolkata, whose life changes overnight after her lover Faizan's death. It claims that she's the last person who had seen him alive the last time. The story takes turns when people around her start to die one by one, in front of her, but why? Who's behind all this? She also gets involved in this and decides to find the real killer. (The cello tape serial killer from the 90's). Who kills people in a way that's really disturbing, and her boyfriend was also found in the same way.

The case started again after two decades to find the killer/ the copycat killer. When the police started the investigation, one of the junior police investigators was also killed in her home in the same way. Page after page it becomes more interesting. So, you've to find out yourself how it ends! Who's the killer? Why did Ekantika get involved? What was the killer's motive?

As per me, the only thing I didn't like is the climax, it ended too quickly & failed to justify the intensity of the story. I wanted it to go smoothly. But I also must say there was twist after twist, the moment you'll think he/she is the killer, you'll be wrong. You won't expect the ending either, trust me. It comes too sudden, and you'll end up staring at the wall for some time. Overall, it's a must read recommendation from my side, it helped me come out of a reading slump, so I'm sure you'll love it too.

A 2021 murder thriller by Novoneel Chakraborty, is a romantic tragedy turned into a psychological thriller.

The book revolves around Ekantika Pakrashi an IAS aspirant who lives in Delhi with her boyfriend and seemingly has a normal life. But it all changes one night when her boyfriend is brutally murdered in the modus operandi of the " Cello Tape Killer" an infamous serial killer from the 90's who was never caught.

Ekantika makes it a mission to find the killer and bring him to justice but soon finds that she may be the real target as the killer. As the story goes on one finds about the inner demons Ekantika is battling with and what is her real motive in finding the killer.

Is Ekantika really a target? Has the cello tape killer returned after 21 years? If so why? Is it a new copycat killer? Will she find out who the real killer is? Its all an enthralling mystery!

The book is a thrilling chase. A must read book. Highly recommended.

Ekantika Bf was murdered by a prolific serial killer known as cello tape killer. He was found dead on the way back to their home in his car. Ekantika shares her incident with the police about the way he was killed which connects to the pattern of cello tape serial killing. Ekantika was escorted by a female assistant SI Preeti for her safety wherein the serial killer tries to kill her in the last moments she gets free from Preeti.

Where many more murders take place in the city triggers the police department and the ministers in the city. Whereas a serial killer has a peculiar style of killing people with tape covering nose and mouth with legs tied later he takes the pictures of the dead and cherishes them as his relations.

Ekantika loves her father to the core whereas her mother raises her alone after his death due to pneumonia. Where in ekantika deciphers her father was brutally killed by a cello tape killer but not by pneumonia. Her love for her father avenges her to catch the real killer. She decides to kill some people to raise this issue to catch the killer. Where she finally gets caught by the police by so many twists and turns...

I am speechless.

This story is hilarious. I have no words to say just that I am obsessed with this book. This is going to be my next favorite one. Maybe I got my book of the month with this.

You'll find twists and turns in every single chapter. It would always leave you guessing the end result as each chapter includes a cliff hanger which will force you to read the next one immediately and not to put down the book until you finish it. And finally what you'll get is totally unexpected. Whisper To Me Your Lies is THE BEST thriller novel I've read until now.

This story clearly shows the efforts & research of the author. Novoneel is the best author of all the times with his female protagonists (at least to me) . He knows how the characters should grow throughout the story & where it should end. Loved the suspence and the twists. Each and everyone is unexpected and nothing seemd extra. Loved the story so much.

This is another example of why Novoneel Chakraborty is India's THE MOST famous thriller writer.

Will definitely recommend this to everyone whether you are from India or not. Just go for it right now.

Ekantika's live-in partner, Faizaan, is murdered. This led to the reopening of the long-lost cases of a serial killer, which terrorized the nation in the 1990s. The various turns of events and the revelations were the reasons why I liked Novoneel's books.
The other bonus points apart from the thrilling story plots were the strong female characters, the passionate chemistry between the main leads, fresh perspectives on different aspects, and audaciousness. I have been reading his books for the last 10 years, and I could notice the level of maturity and contents, which had greatly been updated. With this particular book, I would say, "Men written by men" was the best thing to witness. The love and softness they could hold are beyond their portrayal, yet the harsh reality of their nature has never gone unnoticed. The end had me taking a good amount of pause from the pages. You will get to know the reason.

What a crime thriller this was! Novoneel Chakraborty has done an excellent job of writing this novel. The storyline is extraordinary and unlike any other crime novels. The execution of events was great too. The climax had a hell lot of twists which totally took me by surprise.

Whisper To Me Your Lies is a mixture of the killings of the cello-tape killer, a daughter’s revenge against her father’s death, a mother’s protectiveness over her daughter, love, friendships and relationships; it has it all. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

On the downside, I was unable to understand how the title connects to the story. Half a star removed for the mundane writing style and another half removed for the question left unanswered (the motive of the cello-tape killer behind his crimes).

A crime thriller that will keep you hooked till you finish it.

An UPSC aspirant, a tragedy, a serial killer, many secrets, and a wild goose chase. I was guessing the killer after every chapter and trust me I was wrong every time.

The Book starts with ekantika and ends with her. Whisper to me your lies starts with a steady pace and keeps you hooked up.

The language is simply and easy, the narration is great. The only reason why I'm not giving a 5 star is because I felt there could have been more at the end. Maybe a little. Otherwise an excellent Crime thriller to read.

2.5/5 ⭐

There's not much thrill to read a thriller if you understand who's the killer in the prologue itself.

The serial killings that followed did piqued my interest, but before midway I figured out the second killer and continued until the end ONLY to confirm whether I was correct.

With stereotypical characters, unnecessary physical act descriptions, and no major plot web, the book fails to thrill.

"Whisper to Me Your Lies" thrilling, suspenseful novel that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed and the plot is expertly crafted, making for a page-turner of a book. The twists and turns in the story are unexpected yet satisfying, and the ending is satisfyingly satisfying. My first book my Novoneel. I read this book because of a friend who told me I wouldn’t be able to put it down.

The story is good, no doubt. I liked how the characters each have a unique thinking process but I found the book quite predictable from the start.

The only thing that really shocked me was Faizaans ED report.

The plot line is nice, the book is worth reading apart from the fact that you can guess what happens, it was an exciting novel.
