There is a fear of the dark that lives deep inside us all.
It’s embedded into our primal instincts, and no matter how old we get, it never goes away. We can lie to ourselves, but we can’t lie to what waits for us in the night.
The townspeople of Jacob’s Fork, West Virginia know this all too well. Deep in the mountains there is a secret shrouded in the shadows, one that is whispered about to frighten and protected for reasons too unspeakable to bear the light of day. A secret that emerges once every thirty years.
It’s called The Reaping Season.
Jacob’s Fork becomes a ghost town after sunset. Shops close, school functions are canceled, and you sit inside your home, praying it doesn’t know where you are and come for you.
And now, Ella Grace has landed herself smack in the middle of it all.
Will she learn the truth, or will The Reaping Season claim her instead?
So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.
Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama on you. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.
Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my family and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol.
I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.
Wow this turned out to be so much more than I thought it would be. The things that happened in this book fully tie this to The Crane Diaries. Cant say more as it would be a spoiler but I was shocked on where the author took the story.
This author has such a gift and the world building that has crossed over multiple series is extraordinary. I cannot wait to see what's next.
I loved this book very much! I am so glad I have these books when I need my reaper fix. I finished my degree and I couldn't wait to start on this book. It was the first nook I picked up. Eli and Ella find a very interesting Reaping Season. What lies in the forest and meadow? Will it be something that needs to be killed? Will Ella's dad and the army take care of it? What a great book and I can't wait to read more adventures in the supernatural world with Eli, Ella, Mattie, and Dan. I feel like I am home when I read these books. I think they will make great movies or a great TV series!
Author Apryl Baker brings us the next adventure of Ella Grace and Eli as a new school year begins for them so dose the once every thirty years reaping season. picking up a couple of weeks after the last novella in this series Ella and her sister are both ready and not ready to go back to school. But we are introduced to the first victim of the reaping season. Of the handful of humans that live in their town one was taken and you could feel through the writing how terrified he was. As for Ella she had a breakdown when she saw the front entrance to the school. The spot where she had been run over at the beginning of the first book. Eli and the vice-principle of their school allow Ella to park her car in back with the staff until she gets over her trauma. But things start to escalate quickly with the reaping season and we along with the main characters find out along the course of the book that there is a reason why the reaping season happens. I highly recommend this series and I'm looking forward to reading the next one once it comes out.
I am really enjoying this series, they are shorter books, full of action and some great character development. I definitely went to read the next one. I knocked half a star off because the author keeps labouring certain points of the character, I.e she is diabetic and yes ok it’s great to make people aware of different conditions but it’s mentioned every other page when they eat about how she can’t have that or can’t do that etc. it takes a little away from the story to be honest and I found myself eye rolling lol.
I jut finished reading The Reaping Season, this is the third book of (The Reaper Chronicles book) I must be honest like the last few time I was scared to start reading this one fearing, Apryl Baker has decided to kill some of my favourite characters! But again I was wrong. This keeps getting better and better (The Reaper Chronicles 1) was just the tiny taste compared this. What I really love about Apryl’s work is that she really take her time and give her all to build the characters she presented in her books, so I can’t help but feel so connected to the characters all of them are special. Ella is a human Reaper but she still a human she can’t got all ninja on what bumps in the darkness like Matti (Emma) did but still she have a beautiful heart so definitely she can’t say no and jump right in the middle of danger that she knows nothing about, hell no one around her know. I was specially happy and felt rewarded with the special visiter won’t say who you have to read to find out. If you haven’t read Apryl Baker’s books you are missing out big time, I would recommend starting reading with (Ghost files).
Folks in Jacob's Fork, West Virginia are acting more unusual than normal. Then they start showing up dead, drained of blood. Ella and Eli begin trying to uncover the truth and learn of the unimaginable but necessary horror that is The Reaping Season. Light is shed on Eli's story, giving him the attention that readers have assuredly been craving. Ella continues to grow as a living reaper, and gets some help from other in Ms. Baker's literary universe that have experience in that space, bringing some familiar faces to the fold to help answer questions and uncover secrets.
The Reaping Season is the third book in The Reaper Chronicles series and picks up right where the second installment left off. I highly recommend that those interested in this book read the others before picking this one up. There is also a connection to Ms. Baker's other books series The Ghost Files and The Crane Diaries, so fans of those series should definitely consider picking this one up if they haven't already done so.
It's night time and something is chasing you you hear it's voice in your head. It's in front of you no matter which way you turn you are out after curfew and it is the Reaping Season suddenly it has you and seconds later you are dead no blood left in your body not even a drop.
Eli and Ella have their hands full when people start dying their bodies drained of blood. They think it's a vampire at first but after going to the clearing and speaking to it they learn it's worse they they could have imagined.
This installment of the Living Reaper series was great, flows right along from where the last book left off. We get some surprise visits from some cross over characters which is amazing. this was a quick and delightful read as always.
Apryl brings another intense interesting story involving Ella, Eli and their friends. This one starts another school year for everyone. Ella facing everyone and the incident where her accident happened. Where she almost died. But little does Ella know that facing that demon is going to be the easiest thing over facing the reaping season. The Reaping Season is something that happens in their town every 30 years. Someone unknown to everyone is going around killing people. They believe it might be the army but soon learn that is farthest from the truth. I absolutely love each and every adventure that Apryl takes you in with these two. She writes each story with a great pace, intense moments, challenging moments and hook you until the end moments. Each book gets better as you go along.
We are back for the third installment in Ella's story as one of only three living reapers in the world. This time something mysterious is killing off people and while the locals seem to know something they're not interested in talking to Eli, Ella, Gramps or Major Banks about it.
As information comes out through the newest appearance of Emma/Maddie and her confrontation of the being behind the cases, I understand why the decisions made were made at the start of time.
I am highly intrigued to see how information we were given unfolds in future books. And how much we may or may not see more overlapping between the four series I've seen connect in ways.
This one was very scary to me. I can handle ghosts or I think I can. Brrr!! But the things in this book had my hair crawling off my scalp and hiding in the closet. Ella and Eli are trying to figure out whay people disappear every thirty years. Noone is talking and the army is trying to figure out if Ella is supernatural or not. I love the characters in these books. But, I gotta say I really don't want to know them. Lol. And of course I read this story at nighttime, so no sleeping with the lights off tonight. This author is crazy good at writing these stories. I can't get enough of her.
I am totally loving this series!!!! April is such a fascinating writer...she has truly found her calling and I am seriously loving every minute of it!!! Ella and Eli have bitten off more than they can chew in this one.....WELL....maybe they have been bitten more than they could chew...😂😂😂😂 I have got to go back and learn more about Eli's past life!! Peeps appear in this story that are making me feel like I am missing something. But oh well...It was so good anyways. Whew!!! And Major Banks....what the flips?!?!?!!! If ya like a little spooky in your reading...then you will LOVE this series!!
I just love this series and I am so happy to be immersed in it again. This book gives us so much more of the world, Eli's backstory in pieces and parts to fill in gaps, more characters to learn about, a whole world being built. I adore Ella's desire to help others and her drive to push herself. I love that we get a bit of Emma/Mattie in this one. There are emotional reconnections that bring the worlds together but it manages to still stay it's own story. The bad guys in this round are creepy as heck. So freakin great!!
I do believe that this is one of my favorite in this series. Apryl has a way of weaving a story together. I literally couldn't put this book down. A lot of mystery to keep you on your "toes" while you are reading. Makes it very hard to put the book down and walk away without wanting to come right back and pick it right back up.
This is the third instalment in the series and Ella's story continues. I recommend to read the books in order. A new adventure for Ella Grace. A town becoming a ghost town after sunset and Ella lands smack dab in the middle of it. An highykl entertaining read that had me in suspense right from the start til the last page. A story, fast paced, pcked with drama and action, a great read, stars.
In a supernatural world it's nice to come across something different, something unexpected, a bit of a twist from the norm. I am really enjoying getting to know this world and these characters. Each book gives you just a little more and leaves you wanting just a little more. I give The Reaping Season 4 out of 5 stars.
These stories are shorter than most books I read, but once you start reading you find yourself binge reading. The story continues with Ella trying to learn her magic, and more secrets being exposed. The characters are fairly solid, though I think the only character who has had any real growth is Ella's sister.
This story is so moving, exciting, entertaining and just plain WOW!!. It's scary to think that there is such a thing called the reaping season!!. I know it's just a story, but think about it, are there any supernatural's in our universe?. Apryl is a PHENOMENAL storyteller and writer!. Can't wait to continue reading her stories🤗🙂.
Ella Banks: The Reaper Chronicles: This is a tame and suspenseful paranormal young adult romance. The series is best read in order, and is comprised of quick read novellas. I love Apryl Baker’s writing style, and the world and character development she has created with this series. They are fun and entertaining.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I overlooked the book number and was left hanging around some portions of the book. I definitely recommend reading the previous books before this one or you'll be list with a few minutes. The story itself was good but again I was too busy trying to play catch up to enjoy the book fully.
Apryl Bakers books never leave me disappointed! I love her knowledge of everything supernatural. You find a great mix of werewolves and vampires to common everyday ghosts.
This book is definitely my favorite in the series,so far. So much to unpack and process just fan freaking tastic! I'm a huge fan of Ghost files and Crane dairies and highly recommend read both series. #nospoilers highly recommended read.
Just when you think things can't get any better, Apryl surprises you again. I am absolutely falling in love with the direction this series is heading. Just sitting on pins and needles to see where Ella and Eli will be taken on their next adventure.
Already loving this series! The twists and turns are great and it is never enough for me. I always want more from Apryl Baker. Can’t wait to see what happens next! This book is great and it is a definite must buy!
Ella had to try, and use her gift several times in this book. And again Mattie came and saved her. Then Eli gets a big surprise. This had me saying *YES! It's About time!!!!*
The Reaper Chronicles is a fast paced series that will be enjoyed by fans of The Ghost Diaries and The Crane Chronicles. Definitely kept me enthralled till the last page.
My favorite book in the series so far. I love how the author ties her books series together, but you don’t need to read the other series to understand. I cannot wait to read the next book.
