Jack Cassidy heads the team opening the next in an exclusive line of boutique hotels, this one in wine country. Working with his best friend’s sister should make it easier, tapping into her expertise about the area and its wines. The pair have been friends for years, so sharing an apartment shouldn’t pose any issues… except for the simmering heat building between them.
Campbell Taylor’s one of only a handful of women to battle the all-boys club and go for the title of master sommelier. She didn’t rise to her position by being a pushover, but living and working with her brother’s best friend – the man she’s secretly crushed on for years – might prove to be her greatest challenge. How can she get him to see her as more than Cameron’s little sister? And will their undeniable attraction derail her dreams?

Thanks to Audibly Addicted for the listen in exchange for my honest review.
Ryan & Charlie set the theme in book one of the California Suits series. Their story was adorable, and it left the scene open for Jack & Campbell to come in and steal your heart.
What happens when you are forced to shack up with your best friend's little sister? Feelings, that is what and lots of them!
Friends to lovers usually doesn't work out for me too often because sometimes my mind can't wrap around the fact that these two people suddenly want one another after so many years with no hint what so over of attraction. Saying that though Claire Marti made me see friends to lovers in an all-new light.
Campbell has loved Jack for years but getting the full of experience of Jack Cassidy was far better than she could have anticipated. It doesn't take long for that spark of attraction they have for another to lead to some difficult decisions on both of their parts. Campbell has her life set up to become master sommelier which is nearly impossible for a woman to do. Jack doesn't do relationships but being this close to Campbell he is seeing her in a different way. She has always been beautiful but now the woman she has become is everything he never knew he wanted.
Will their undeniable attraction cause Campbell to lose her dreams? How can Jack derail everything she has ever wanted for something that might not last?
Evan Parker did the narration of Jack justice in oh so many ways. The growl he did in one scene dang near had me losing my mind at work. Victoria Mei was a new to me narrator, but I really enjoyed the way she was able to add a bit of sass to Campbell.
Wine Country King is the perfect summer read to have you craving wine, good food and the possibilities of new love. Up next for the Kings is Cameron and his second chance at love!
Claire Marti’s storytelling never disappoints, and she’s once again delivering the swoony and steamy vibes with Wine Country King. With its play on the older brother’s best friend and forced proximity tropes, I was hooked from the blurb! Campbell and Jack have known each other since they were teenagers, but her quest to become a Master Sommelier and his job to open an upscale boutique hotel in wine country brings them together, not just as co-workers but roommates, too! Although Campbell has had a crush on Jack for years, he doesn’t realize his feelings for her until he can no longer deny the smart, witty, and lovely woman she has become. Reading how their friendship morphs into more—something deep and emotional and smoking hot—was such a wonderful escape!
Wine Country King California Suits, Book 2 By: Claire Marti Narrated by: Evan Parker, Victoria Mei
Claire Marti has a winner on her hands with this series! Wine Country King, book 2 had me swooning from the start! Meet Jack, a boutique hotel mogul, heading up the next project located in Wine Country. Campbell is a wine sommelier, on her way to Master, and Jack's best friend's sister. When work on this hotel in Wine Country has their paths crossing, the crush that Campbell has had on Jack all of her life comes in full force. Why had Jack not noticed the confident, competent, beautiful woman Campbell has turned into? Now having become roommates due to unforeseen circumstances, things begin to heat up. But will it last? Goals, family, and commitment may just keep them apart. Marti keeps this series light, but romantic and I am loving it! It is spicy and fun! Campbell is quite a woman! I admire her goal seeking, and love how she comes to terms with exactly what she wants and she is not afraid to go after it. Jack is so swoony, it's hard not to find him attractive! He is the whole package, smart, good looking attentive and all around amazing! This is a fun listen, and leaves us wide open and wanting Cameron's story!
Narrated by the talented team of Victoria Mei and Evan Parker, the swoon factor is turned on high! Mei always fine tunes her characters, understanding their personality and making the person very real. Parker is relatively new to me, and I love him! His voice carries a rich and calm feel, giving me that feeling of warmth as he narrates and brings Jack to life. I enjoyed this listen and can't wait for more.
They’ve been best friends for years but the harder they try to deny their attraction, the more explosive the tension builds until one kiss turns into an inferno. Jack never expected to be sharing a small apartment with Campbell while they work to get Maison du Soleil, a boutique hotel in the heart of wine country in California, up and running. Everything was booked through the harvest and Jack didn’t know if he could handle the temptation. Campbell is a gorgeous woman and his best friend’s sister. He needs to concentrate on work, yeah, work on the hotel, and look the other way where Campbell is concerned. Easier said than done, especially after a mind-blowing kiss that leaves him weak in the knees. The forced living conditions are weakening his resolve. Would her brother understand? Would she want to explore what they feel for each other? Jack has no idea. All he knows is that Campbell consumes his every thought and need.
Wine Country King is an unforgettable romance set in the heart of wine country in California. Like a smooth glass of wine, Wine Country King is meant to be savored. I thoroughly enjoyed the push and pull both Jack and Campbell dealt with as they tried to sort through their feelings for one another. I connected with Campbell immediately and kept rooting for her to go after her dreams. The intricate descriptive narration is classic Claire Marti and will whisk you away to California. I enjoyed all of the wine details. It’s clear Claire Marti is a wine lover and through her gifted writing, she gives the reader an escape to wine country in California. The romance is a familiar trope, but Claire Marti puts her own spin on it. The plot is fully developed with a full cast of characters to interact with. When I finished reading, I wanted to read it all over again. If you’re a wine lover, you’ll want to read Wine Country King. If you’re a romance reader looking for an escape to beautiful wine country, pick up Wine Country King. Highly recommend!
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My thoughts are all my own.
It was so much fun to be part of Campbell and Jack's journey. I genuinely liked these characters and kept the pages turning to know more about them. I also loved that they grew up together since teenagers. It made their hot attraction to each other even more exciting. The delightful premise of Campbell and Jack having to share a small apartment temporarily, while trying to keep their steamy sexual attraction under wraps created a fun and sexy story! And the ending made me smile with joy. I highly recommend!
I adored Jack and Campbell! Both are career-driven with a one-track mind in their respective careers. The tip-toeing around and smoldering looks are just the beginning! All it takes is ONE KISS to start the inferno!! Highly recommend!!
Claire Marti has done it again, with another wonderful California romance filled with lust and longing and great characters that keep the pages turning as they seek both balance and happily ever afters.
I’ve never been to visit wine country, but after immersing myself in Marti’s beautiful descriptions of the landscape, the wineries, the locations, and yes, the wines themselves… I know I need to put it on my list for sooner rather than later. I need to see this gorgeous part of the country that Jack and Campbell call home. Who are Jack and Campbell? Let me give you a thumbnail description…
Jack Cassidy is a hot shot real estate attorney whose current project is to open a boutique hotel in California wine country. He and his college buddies banded together to come up with a plan to open a string of “Hotel King” locations up and down the California coastline and make them into luxury destinations. Jack’s is the second hotel in the chain, and he feels the pressure not only from his friends but from himself – he works hard to always be the best, partly because he’s still seeking approval from parents who were never effusive and who never stayed in one place very long. He wants to finally put down roots of his own, and wants this hotel to succeed. He doesn’t have time for anything but work. But…
Campbell Taylor is the little sister to one of the Hotel Kings, and has always harbored a secret crush on Jack, whom she’s totally sure has never looked at her as anything but a tagalong tomboy. Currently she’s organizing the food and beverage aspects of the hotel chain, helping interview chefs and curate wine lists for all the locations, but the one in wine country is near and dear to her heart, as she works toward her Master Sommelier degree. It also brings her into Jack’s orbit on a daily basis… and then there’s the problem with his rental, forcing them into even closer quarters as they share a small condo. All that electricity arcing between them in a tiny little space practically shoots sparks right off the page.
And… no spoilers here. Just an enthusiastic recommendation – two thumbs up, five sparkling stars, and a few fireworks thrown in for good measure. Even though this is the second book in the series, this is a standalone story and you can start right with this book. The couple from the first hotel (and the first book) do make an appearance in later chapters, so if you don’t want that spoiled for you, better start with book one and make your way through the series from the beginning. If you love to get swept away to a new place when you read, Marti sets all of her books along the California coastline and they’re all fabulous reads to get away from this tough New England winter weather. And I can hardly wait for the next installment in this series!
Wine Country King California Suits, Book 2 By: Claire Marti Narrated by: Evan Parker, Victoria Mei
Claire Marti pens another fabulous novel set in her “California Suits” series and, like the first book, the story grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire time. Each book features different lead characters and stands on its own, some characters cross over into other books, but everything you need to know about them is in the descriptive details and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend. This book brings us Jack Cassidy and Campbell Taylor’s story and it is a best friend’s younger sister, forced proximity romance. Campbell is studying to be a master sommelier and Jack, a lawyer, is leading a team to open a boutique hotel in wine country. He thought he would have his own apartment, but Campbell informs him the apartment was not available and he could stay with her. Campbell had reservations about this despite her suggesting it and so did Jack, neither realized that they both harbored secret crushes on each other, but she is off limits. It was amusing to watch these two navigate their way around each other, they may be good friends but neither one wants to step over the line. The chemistry between these two is sizzling, and they could only deny each other for so long. I loved how everything played out in this book, the wonderfully written and plotted story is fast moving and there is never a dull moment. There is a perfect balance of drama, some humor, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Claire Marti, thank you for another wonderfully entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧 📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Evan Parker and Victoria Mei are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They did a fabulous job bringing these characters and their story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that fit the character’s persona to a tee, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Victoria Mei played Campbell’s role with perfection, grasping all her emotions, having you feel every single one, Evan Parker did the same for Jack. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances an already fabulous story to another level. Thank you for another great listen.
Wine Country King is the first book I have read / listened to by Claire Marti and I have to say I am impressed and very much look forward to reading many more books by her. I absolutely love the brothers best friend trope and I felt like Ms. Marti did it justice with Jack and Campbell's story. Not only did we get a sweet and sexy romance but also a beautiful location with wonderful descriptions that make you feel as if you are right there in wine country yourself. I really enjoyed Jack and Campbell's romance, these two have terrific chemistry and both have been attracted to the other for many years but to afraid to attempt anything in fear of hurting a friend & brother but also ruining their own friendship as well.
Jack is an alpha male but he is kind and supportive of Campbell which I think is absolutely wonderful. Campbell is a strong, independent woman working to succeed as a somelier which is a male dominated industry The storyline was very good, flowed naturally and kept my attention from beginning to end, so much do that I didn't want to stop listening once I started.
The narrator's both did a fantastic job of portraying all characters and provided the appropriate inflections throughout the story. I definitely look forward to hearing more books read by each of these narrators.
I highly recommend reading / listening to Wine Country Kings, this is book 2 in the series and characters may reoccur in each book but it is not necessary to read each book to be able to understand and follow the storyline. I will be going back and reading any books missed since I enjoyed this book so much. Happy Reading!!!
This is the second book I read from this author and I absolutely loved this story!! This romance is absolutely hot and entertaining. I couldn’t stop reading. These are great, well developed characters with a lot of chemistry between them. It’s not the typical best friend’s little sister cliché. They are honest to each other and act like two adults mutually attracted. It’s also funny with a lot of great sexy times. I highly recommend this book. If you like smoking hot romance with a bit of an emotional trip too, this is your cup of tea. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love these contemporary romances about love . This series follows educated accomplished thirty somethings on the verge of realizing their dreams. Throw in breath taking landscapes and a little tension and we have a winner. This a a best friend’s verboten little sister trope. Forbidden fruit creates many jams or in this case good wine. Jack is smooth as the vino Campbell has dedicated her life to but a drifter. It’s not his fault military brat background and all. His debonair good looks and player flair have never failed to snare Campbell’s heart. She catches glimpses of his vulnerability and gets love locked down. He falls for her and this vagabond bad boy wants to settle down. Fight for her love or flight to her Master Som dreams in Paris where does the rainbow end for the Wine Country King and his would be Queen? I received this advanced review copy as a courtesy gratis. This voluntary review is both my pleasure and a thank you to the author for another winner in The Hotel Kings series. I can’t hardly wait till April to read Cam’s story but by then we should all be breathing better after this Covid wave has subsided.
Ms. Marti's latest book Wine Country King is the second in the California Suits series and is a must-read. Unless you haven’t read Hotel King (the first in the California Suits series) and then – you need to get on that. Seriously. It's so good. Read that book and then come back here. I’ll wait. What did you think? Great, right? Good. Now that we’ve all read the first book let me tell you why you want to read the second. The chemistry between Campbell, Master Sommelier extraordinaire, and Jack is smoking hot. You see, Campbell has had a secret crush on Jack for a long time. (Don’t you love secret crush stories?) This author is great at building the simmering tension between our hero and heroine to a point where I have to put the book down and turn on a fan. Obviously, Jack isn’t blind to his attraction to Campbell, but given their long history of friendship, it only dawns on him – for real – when they’re somewhat forced to live together. And if that doesn’t ring your bell, wine lovers will adore the total immersion into, um, wine-ness. (a word I just made up.) I can't recommend this book enough. It is a great escape and so much fun!
Wine Country King California Suits book 2 by Claire Marti Narration by Victoria Mei and Evan Parker
I love Wine!
This is a delicious, flirty and fun addition to the California Suits Series. It had me smiling right from the start. We get to hear Jack’s story in this book. We met him briefly in Ryan and Charlie’s book. He’s working on his teams latest hotel in wine country where he has issues sourcing a place to stay. So he roommates with his best friend’s sister, Campbell. He thought it was all going to be great until he realizes she grown up in all of the best ways. Yikes!
Right off the bat, their attraction is way too much for either of them yet they try telling themselves that it’s for the best to try ignoring it or at least pretending too. LOL
Victoria Mei is one of my favourite narrators. She really shows all of emotions and feelings of her characters and Campbell comes alive under her performance. Evan Parker held his own in his performance as the best friend who loses his head over Cam’s younger sister Campbell. His voice was perfect for what I envisioned for Jack and these two were so cute together as a couple. Can’t wait for more books in this awesome series.
Claire Marti has again delivered a fun and fast read you don’t want to put down. The California Suits world is one I would love to be a part of. They are truly great friends who love each other for who they are. I love that Claire weaves all of them into each book in some way, so you don’t lose the friends you have found once the book ends. In Wine Country King Jack continues to ooze confidence and masculinity. He ends up finding his heart is lost to Campbell, a strong, vibrant & extremely beautiful woman who just so happens to be his best friend’s little sister. From the first kiss the temperature just keeps rising. These 2 are fun to read as they navigate the transition from best friend’s little sister to co-worker then on to lovers and finally capturing each other’s hearts. Great book!
Jack and Campbell had me hooked from the very beginning of their story. A little bit of forced roommate time won’t hurt them, right? After all, they’re practically family. But do they really believe that line, or is it just a lie they’ve both told themselves to keep from being hurt or rocking the boat?
The fact that these two thought they were playing it cool was hilarious to me, especially since they were both anything but. Jack couldn’t stand seeing how men fell for Campbell and her charm, while Campbell couldn’t stand witnessing Jack’s smooth facade that seemed to beckon women closer. But appearances definitely are deceiving here. The real problem is that the ones being deceived aren’t the target audience for said deception. And when these two are called on it by the very person they worried about, I had to laugh. After all, they’re adults and like the person said, they just need to remain adults no matter what comes their way in the future.
This series spans the coast of California and I’m really enjoying the trip to each new destination. Now I need to be patient while I wonder what Cam and Lucy may bring us with their story.
Romance that ages like a good red. This was light and breezy, well written and a thoroughly enjoyable read as Jack and Campbell try so hard to resist the pull they feel toward each other until one show stopping kiss blows their worlds apart. But they want different things from life don’t they? And then there’s that ‘brother’s best friend’ issue to deal with. Ms Marti writes a great story; there’s romance, steamy sex, witty banter and just enough tension to keep you flipping through the pages to see how it all works out. The second outing in the California Suits Series is a great one, can’t wait for the next when we get Cameron, the brother’s story.
This is book two in The California Suits series and it is Jack and Campbell's story and it is definitely a must read. Jack and Campbell have been friend's for many year's as Jack is her brother's best friend but now Jack and Campbell are working on a project together and also sharing there living accommodation which shouldn't be a problem if Campbell had not had a crush on Jack for many year's so things could get very complicated especially with the attraction and sizzling chemistry between them but if they do give in to it everything could be compromised and call apart so only time will tell what will happen and what the outcome will be for them all in the long run. This Book takes you in right from the first page and keeps your attention throughout and I just couldn't put it down as I wanted to see what would happen next and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Claire Marti is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, and I loved the first book in her California Suits series and have been anxiously awaiting book two. Wine Country King did not disappoint! If possible, I enjoyed it even more than Hotel King. Jack was such a fun secondary character in the first book and this is his story. He is even more appealing as we learn more about him as the main character. And Campbell is such a great match for him. She’s smart, funny, sassy and it was so fun to watch their relationship unfold. Wine Country King checks a lot of boxes for me...gorgeous California setting (which Marti always describes so beautifully, I feel like I’ve been on a vacation there when I’m done with her books), brother’s best friend, forced proximity. What’s not to love? Nothing...I loved it all! 5 stars from me for Wine Country King, and I’m already looking forward to book three in the California Suits series.
This boook Jake and Campell try to help opening the hotel and when come time of th haverst season you see Jack and Campell more together will it recandle memorie , has you c@n see the sparks be between them When Jack and Campbell must share her apartment during the height of the harvest season, they resolve to make it work. Because they can’t afford to complicate or compromise their career goals by giving in to their burgeoning attraction. But close proximity means in no time they’re sharing meals, movie nights and… a bed. Campbell realizes her childhood crush on swoony Jack is now big, steamy and very adult. And it isn’t long before Jack realizes he’s powerless to resist the lure of the gorgeous, intelligent Campbell.
This is book 2 of the California Suits Series but could be read as a standalone without too much trouble. A brothers best friend/ office romance.
Jack is in 100% with his buddies on this journey of creating and running these hotels. This ex military, hottie also has the smarts to help make his hotel a success. Growing up as a military brat, he is all to used to moving around and not staying in one place. He worries his friends feel he is just waiting for the next place to pull him away. He has always felt more at home with the Taylor family than his own.
Campbell is working towards her Master Sommelier while working to help the new hotels get up and running with the best chefs and wine lists. She loves the freedom of being a little bit away from her family but knowing they are close at hand. She is working alongside Jack, her brothers bestfriend that she has crushed on since he came to their place for the first time. When working together, turns into sharing a space, she is concerned about crossing the lines.
When they cross the lines they are worried about what the family will think. Will their past keep them from exploring this new adventure together or will they give things an honest try? Could there be another love story in the making?
Open a Claire Marti novel and your heart may never view love the same. From heartbreaking to heartwarming, emotions run deep. Wine Country King is a beautiful canvas of bountiful flavors. Jack and Campbell somehow manage to find the sweet spot between overly dramatic and scorching hot. With a sprinkling of humor and a a never-ending supply of heart, Marti delivers a feast of the senses that proves hard to resist.
I absolutely loved this book!! It had a great storyline and the characters were so realistic!! I loved the happy ending and how it brought in other characters so you can read their stories too!!! I definitely want to read this complete series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Campbell has always had a crush on her brother's best friend, Jack. Years later, as they work on the opening of a hotel together, the feelings she's always managed to keep hidden suddenly won't go away. Unknown to her, Jack has always had non-sisterly feelings for her. When they become roommates, the chemistry between them burns hot. But will it affect her ambition?
Claire Marti is a new-to-me author, but I find that I quite enjoyed her style. The chemistry and familiarity between the two leads were unmistakable. I liked their banter and teasing. I also liked the relative low drama vibe the author used to take the pair on their journey to HEA.
I definitely recommend this read.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Get ready for all that is Jack and Campbell. Their chemistry was undeniable. Jack wasn't known for settling down or commitment. One night with Campbell and he knew everything would be different. Campbell was focused on her career but when she had time away to think she discovered everything she ever wanted was with Jack. I love this series and I can't wait to get Cam's story.
This is a sweet story of a high school crush becoming a reality. Of course these two needed to overcome their priorities and come to the conclusion that they are better off together than apart. I do like how the story unfolded and the conclusion the author came up with. You do not need to listen to this series in order, I have not listened to book one and I wasn’t lost in the slightest. Evan and Victoria make an excellent team for narrators, they really complimented each other and making this audiobook a huge success! 🎧Audibly Addicted Reviewer
My favorite things, brother’s best friend romance and wine!
Wine Country King is book two in the California Suits series. Jack and Campbell are explosive. Campbell is used to playing in an all-boys world, and she knows how to fight and win. But when she has to share an apartment with Jack, her brother’s best friend, the gloves are off. She’s wanted him for a long time and now it’s time to show her how grown up she is.
These two lit up my kindle with their chemistry. I cheered them on every step of the way. I loved the banter, the sass and the characters so much. This author creates an awesome escape and characters that are easy to fall in love with.
I like the Hotel Kings series but I had a bit of a time getting into this story. Campbell has been in love with her brothers best friend Jack but she wants to be a wine sommelier and she can’t let her feelings get in the way of it. When Jack shows up to start overseeing the hotel Campbell explains she gave Jacks apartment away to the landlords father and he would have to stay with her. Well Campbell is pretty sure she can resist her urges for Jack but she doesn’t realize he has them too. Good story and I can’t wait to read the next one.
This book is a brothers best friend romance! Jack and Cambell have known each other for years and have had an attraction to one another just as long!
They find themselves thrust together and when they can no longer fight what they feel things start to get complicated! As both try to juggle their futures they have to decide if having one together is possible!
Jack and Cambell were such a cute couple and I love how gutsy and take charge Cambell is! Jack is the perfect gentleman but such a beast when he needs to be!
This is an entertaining forced proximity brother's best friend range. It is well written with great vivid storytelling. The emotions are realistic and at points heavy. There are swoonworthy moments and steamy heat. Jack and Campbell are characters that are very likable.
