Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
I thought the pacing on this novel was good . . . not so fast that I lost the thread, but fast enough to pull me into the story line. Though I did figure out whodunnit and partly WHY they did, it wasn't until almost the 'official' reveal. As to the romance aspect, I liked that it wasn't an insta-love kind of thing, but rather that both Erin and Dillon felt a spark of interest that intensified as they searched for Erin's daughter (as well as all the mayhem that ensued!). I really liked that they each encouraged each other to trust God and became a safe place for the other one to share past hurts.
Not just a heart-in-throat kind of opening scene, but a rip-a-mother's-heart-out kind. Barritt delivers one emotional sucker punch after another in this edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense.
A mother with a missing child who is desperate to find her. A stalker dogging her every move and taunting her at every turn. And that handsome St. Bernard mix tracking expert -- oh, and his human counterpart -- who stick by her side despite all the angst and upset
Honestly, I felt every emotion imaginable to the nth degree during this read. From fury at certain individuals to abject terror on Erin's behalf, to swoonalicious toe-curls over a certain K-9 duo. :-) So many plot twist and downright U-turns! Not to mention gasp-out-loud moments! Christy Barritt knows how to keep a reader fixated on a story.
And -- the icing on the cake -- eeeppp, I got to listen to Patricia Santomasso's riveting narration which made my 'reading' experience all the more enjoyable.
Dangerous Mountain Area is by Christy Barritt. Erin Lansing was raising her adopted daughter, Belle, after divorcing her detective husband, Liam. Liam was a professional liar and played a good game for others. He was a good guy at the police department but a controlling maniac at home. To protect herself and her daughter, she divorced him. They had a huge verbal fight at the courthouse steps. Then, he disappeared and could not be found. Rumors started that she had killed Liam. Now Bella was missing. Finally, since they police fully expected her to be involved, they were looking for her. Ranger Rick Dillon, a former cop and now who worked with dogs on a personal basis. Then they found a body with a necklace which matched the one Liam always wore; but it wasn’t him. Then someone began trying to kill Erin. Rick is determined to find out who and why?
Somewhere in the romantic suspense universe there must be a dartboard with various story elements on it... such as shooting at car, kid in danger, being run off the road, stuck in storm with hero, heroine running off alone to rescue loved one, injury requiring the ER, etc. This story includes all the above. I found it to be too predictable, and the writing wasn't as well-crafted as in her other books. On the other hand, there's lots of action to keep the reader engaged, which I enjoyed. 3.5 stars.

Dangerous Mountain Rescue by Cindy Barritt is a 2022 Harlequin Love-Inspired publication.
Erin’s ex-husband is missing, presumed dead, and all his cop buddies have decided she is at fault. Now, her daughter, Bella, has gone missing, too. Unable to rely on law enforcement, Erin has decided to go out on her own to find her daughter. Unfortunately, it would seem someone doesn’t like that idea…
Enter Dillion Walker, a K-9 Search and Rescue handler. After Dillion and his K-9 partner, Scout, finds and rescues Erin, he goes along with her in the search for her daughter, even putting himself at odds with law enforcement who are determined to find something to pin on Erin.
With the odds against them, Erin and Dillion go against the grain, forging a deep bond, to find Bella and discover the truth about what happened to Erin’s ex-husband. Their efforts, though, could put them both in danger…
When I took a closer look at this line from Harlequin, I thought it would be just what I was looking for- romantic suspense written in the style I preferred, without the language and explicit sex scenes. I loaded up my Kindle with a handful of them, only to discover that despite all those positives, the two or three I read were poorly written. So, the unread books I had on my Kindle have been sitting there collecting virtual dust ever since. While looking for a another book on my Kindle, I came across this book, and decided to give the imprint another chance, hoping at least one of books would be a winner.
This book was a definite improvement over my previous experiences with this imprint. It was well constructed, flowed evenly and all the threads were tied up satisfactorily. Now, was it memorable? Not really- In fact, it was a bit more predictable than usual, and the romantic elements were very flat, as were the suspense elements. One will know very early on where the story is headed, it’s just the whys and wherefores that will keep one invested.
The story is pretty standard, maybe a little dull even, but of course, as is often the case, the dog, Scout, who was sort of left in the background for the most part, ends up being the big star of the show and was the best reward for sticking with a story that was mostly underwhelming.
Despite that, this book did give me a little more hope for this Harlequin line. I hope I can find one that makes a better impression, amongst the books I have on my Kindle.
Overall, not a terrible way to while away a weekend afternoon… just a little on the bland side.
*Content: As per usual- no language, no SC, and minimal violence. There is a light Christian tone.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Dangerous Mountain Rescue. This is a K-9 Search and Rescue Novel. I really enjoy Christy's work. I was excited to receive this one in the mail. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of suspense. I know you are going to love it.
Erin Lansing is searching for her teenage daughter in the mountains. Law enforcement is her enemy ever since the disappearance of her ex-husband a year ago. He was a police officer and the whole police force blames her. Now her daughter is missing. Will she have to go it alone? Threats appear on her phone. Now what?
Search and Rescue Handler Dillon Walker and his K-9 partner, Scout have been called out to find a teen that has disappeared by the Park Rangers. They will do everything they can to find the girl. Dillon's not sure why the police are treating the mother in such a way. Can they team up and find her?
A horrendous journey through bad weather, mountainous terrain, and attacks. God has a plan for these two, a good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of war and political chaos. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
This story was jam packed with action from the start. There are a ton of twists and turns in here. You just have to keep reading to figure out what happened.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character and action oriented storyline that has no steam but some kisses. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The plot keeps you guessing until the end. There were some great examples of trying to live you life trusting in God. It was exciting and inspirational. If that sounds good to you, then try this for yourself. Enjoy.
Erin's husband disappeared a year ago, and now her teenage daughter disappears in the mountains under dangerous conditions. Erin is frantic to find her daughter, even if on her own, but the police suspect her of both disappearances. Search and Rescue handler, Dillan, and his K9 Scout are called in to help in the search, but someone doesn't want Ella found -- or for Erin to come home alive! Scary situations and life and death scenarios bring lots of suspenseful action to the story. Is Erin really innocent, or is she hiding something? Can Dillan and Scout find out the truth before someone else dies?
Erin’s daughter was missing. Dillan and his dog Scout were trying to find her
Everything is crazy. The chief of police thinks I killed my husband last year and now thinks I have done something to my daughter who has been missing for 24 hours. I called the park rangers when they found my daughter’s car parked at the trailhead and asked for help. They are the ones that brought in Dillan and Scout to help find Bella. But I can’t wait for them I am going to start on my own. I have to find my daughter. I just have too
Erin's daughter is missing. Since her divorce from her cop husband, she's been person non grata with the local law enforcement especially after he disappeared so she knows that she will get no help from them. The ranger calls in Dillon a former cop who along with his K9 make a great search and rescue team.
There are lots of twists and turns before this one is resolved. Erin and Dillon learn things about each other and themselves as they work together to find Erin's daughter.
This book is too predictable. I liked the characters, but they are like so many others in other books. It is hard to criticize because authors do something I cannot—write! This book had that moment which makes my brain close down…the text that says, “Come alone or…”. Why do authors write this? Idk. There isn’t anything that distinguishes this little book from so many others.
Erin's daughter Ella is missing and it's Dillon's job to find her with the help of Scout the tracker dog. After fruitless searches and many bullets fired (we never did learn who was shooting at them), Erin winds up missing as well. Amid blizzard conditions, can Scout pull a miracle? Christy Barritt keeps us guessing!
Erin's daughter is missing in the mountains of North Carolina and she has a feeling that Bella may have been abducted. She teams up with Dillon Walker and his dog to search, but instead of finding her daughter, they find a decomposed body that might be her ex-husband. The search continues amidst various threats to Erin and fear for Bella's fate.
The action started at once, and never looked back. Dillion did not see Erin really taking over, all she wanted was ber daughter back. He wanted to help find Bella before she was killed. Who was behind the whole terrible string of actions? Follow the action to the surprise ending.
You'll find a resilient heroine, a lost teen, a noble search and rescue officer, bad cops, and a dog with a great nose in this fast paced, action-packed, suspense by Christy Barritt. Narrator read well and gave characters individual tones for their voices while keeping the pacing of the book steady and strong.
This was a well-written, fast-paced, great characters, search & rescue dog, keep-you-guessing until the end novel. I read it in one day, and I’m looking forward to reading some of the others in this series. I don’t think they are connected other than having search and rescue dogs, so reading out of order shouldn’t be a problem. And honestly, you can’t go wrong with a book by Christy Barritt.
A great plot, intriguing characters, and a lot of twists to keep you guessing. Who do you go to for help when the law enforcement and most of the town are against you? As the incidents increase, and the threats intensifies, how can you find your daughter in time and still deal with the hateful interference.
I don't know how Christy Barritt continually writes these nail-biting, heart stopping and gripping novels, but she does. I can't wait for the next one. And the twist at the end was the best. Thank you so much!
I did not want to put it down until the very end. The story was intriguing and scary. The characters were amazing. I can't wait for the next one Great job. Thank you for sharing.
Christy Barritt is a phenomenal writer! The suspense in this story kept me on the edge of my seat. Of course there was a very handsome hero to fall in love with.
This story could use a bit more editing & grammar correction! It’s predictable/ a good mystery though about 1/2 way through I figured out who the “bad guy” was behind all the mayhem. It was a fun quick read.
This was a good story that kept moving, and kept you wanting to read more. It kept you guessing as to who was behind the abduction and what the end of the story was going to bring. Thoroughly enjoyed this mystery story!
What an awesome read! Christy has done it again with this book. It was filled with excitement, adventure and just a good story. I can't wait to read the next in the series!
