Mickey Mouse and Goofy head off to Japan where they view the scenery, try the food, complete with using chopsticks, and then become fascinated with kites.

This results in them entering a kite flying competition and have a great deal of fun.

Mickey and Goofy are in Japan, seeing the sites and trying the food, which, it should be said, they have difficulty in eating as they try to use chop sticks!

They ride the bullet train, 'one of the world's fastest trains', says Mickey, view Mount Fuji, 'It's the highest mountain in Japan', Mickey informs Goofy, before they arrive in Tokyo where they visit the Toy Museum and Edo Palace.

After leaving the Palace they spot lots of boys flying kites and they learn that the following day is Boys' Day on which not only do families fly carp streamers on their houses, one for each boy that lives there, but there is a kite flying contest.

Mickey and Goofy admire the many different kites that they see and decide that they, too, would like to fly a kite but only boys can enter the competition. Despite that they still go ahead and build a kite and they fly it around until it blows away. Fortuitously it is found in his garden by a little boy, who, when Mickey and Goofy eventually find their kite, agrees to fly it for them in the competition. Everybody is happy!

And once again the book ends with some 'Did You Know ...?' facts about Japan and its culture.

My family collected most of the books in the Small World Library, and this was my favorite. I've always loved Japan, and even learned how to speak some. The pictures are engaging, and you learn a little bt of culture while readig about Mickey and Goofy!

I love Disney books! This book is great! my favorite part is when Kenji found Mickey and Goofy's kite. I also liked when they decided Kenji could fly the kite for them in the contest. This is such a fun book and you can learn more about Japan when you read it.

Nice illustrations and plenty of words per page. Winning competitions through your own merit is the right thing to do. Otherwise you're just cheating. But I guess, this book teaches people to be giving and not selfish.
