I survived a job for royal vampires with my life and identity intact. That means I can return to my normal life as a knight, right?

Wrong.

When a group of werewolves goes berserk in our local pub, there’s a new threat in the city and the local pack hires me to find out what it is. Unfortunately that decision draws the attention of a certain vampire prince who likes to keep tabs on the most powerful pack in the city. Just when I thought I was free of the Demon of House Duncan, we’re embarking on a road trip together to investigate.

And what we discover changes everything—as well as each other.

I've decided books like these need a name. They're those books that are nothing special, but they're not bad either. More like maybe t.v. shows that are good (sometimes better than others), but perhaps not as amazing as movies or a really good series. Most of these books are procedural in nature and each book in the series just feels like another episode. Books like this are also something you may read when there is nothing better, but you want a book you know will at least be semi decent.

I am really going to come up with a term, but I just got done with finals and it may be beyond my ability to do so at this moment 🤣 suggestions?

And can I just say something? The term "the great eruption" 🤦‍♂️... is it just me? 🤣🤣🤣 hmm maybe my mind is just a dirty dirty birdie. I giggle like a 10 year old boy every time I read it.

Strong heroine. Action. Adventure. Magic. Mystery.

Great urban fantasy. I enjoyed all elements. As for the romance that’s taking time to develop. It’s in the background.

I find the story entertaining as I get used to the author's writing style.

Three Dog Knight is the second book in the Midnight Empire series and is a post-apocalyptic world where vampires now rule the world, thanks to ash covering the world. Everyone else is food unless you have magical powers. This book carries on from where the other left off so read them in order.

Our FMC made me laugh, but her mouth gets her in trouble. She is a kick ar$e character and is always the first into the action. There are certainly enough paranormal creatures around to try to stop her from finding the objects that could kill them all if they got into the wrong hands.

It is full of action and adventure where the Knights fight the monsters in the world, causing chaos. I love it when stories are told in dual POV.

Another adventure, some violence, and a hot vampire prince later and we still haven't learned much more about London. I really want to know who her father is, I feel like it has to be someone important, like a royal. The heat between London and Callan picked up a bit in this one. Of course, we are left with a bit of a cliff hanger at the end.

I liked this one a bit better but it still fell short and got a bit formulaic towards the end. The discovery of who did what and why concluded in the last 80% in the same manner as the previous book.

The bad guy and the whole center point kinda came together in this one and it unveiled the full mystery, which wasn't bad. I just still did not like the idea behind the stones.

The execution was better than the previous but the author tried so hard to make the leads a thing without really showing any chemistry. Their story was barely average because it had so much potential. Didn't really care for the mystery in this one either but it wasn't the worst, just felt a bit too convenient to me in the grand scheme of things.

Three Dog Knight is the second book in the Midnight Empire: The Tower series by Annabel Chase.

I am a huge fan of Urban Fantasy and Ms. Chase has knocked it out of the park with this second book in the series.

I love the heroine in this book, London Hayes. Having completed her last mission (no spoilers), London thinks that she is in the clear to go back to being a boring knight.

Not so fast London!

This time London is dealing with rogue werewolves and London is hired by wolf pack to find out what's really happening. This puts her right back in the vampire prince's crosshairs.

I love everything about this book. The world building is excellent!

I love the action, romance and other worldly characters.

Highly recommend this amazing urban fantasy!

I enjoyed London in this book even more than in the first one. Callan, less so. I can't really pinpoint all the reasons why, but he doesn't do it for me. Nothing about him screams alpha - he is more like a beta who has some minor alpha tendencies.

At least there was finally some heat between them. I don't mind a slow-burn romance, but this is barely a flame at this point. Hopefully, we'll get even more in the third novel.

A little underwhelming in terms of the plot but overall a fun read.

When I was done with this book, Goodreads did not automatically put it in “Read” like it usually does. So two days later, I saw it in my Currently Reading section, and I could not remember if I finished it. I feel like that says a lot about how underwhelming the plot was.

I adore these characters.

Supernaturally hilarious detectives

This book lives up to the “supernatural joyride” comment in the books info. The action, adventure and mayhem Callen and London get up to its as thrilling as it is hilarious, plus the chemistry between the pair practically jumps off the page. I’m loving this series!

Enjoyable

I am really enjoying this series. It is a bit dark with the Eternal Night. I like the female lead. She is confident and competent. If you enjoy a new spin on Vampires with battle knights this is a great read!

Overall: 3/5

Plot and themes: 3/5

Characters: 4/5

Writing style: 3/5

Attention-grabbing: 3/5

The second book in the Tower series once again follows London in her knightly investigations, this time with the added bonus of psychotic werewolves. Callan is back at it again, trying to worm his way past London's self-defenses. It's kind of working too, despite knowing that if he suspects that she is a dhampir it'll be a death sentence.

I still loved the characters and the journey that they're going on in this book, but the mystery wasn't as interesting. It was also difficult for me to believe that despite the time that separated these books, the vampires would know that this would be the case that relates to her previous work for them. Just all felt a little bit too convenient. I know that these books are built on convenience, but I have limits especially when the first book had boosted my expectations so high.

Definitely still worth reading, especially to see where London's powers are going as she gets some interesting developments in this one. I think it'll be a great balance of awesome powers and a nicely paced romantic plot line.

Supernaturals/Enemies to Lovers/very PG

SYNOPSIS (of 4 Book Series): This series is set in a world where, due to supervolcanos erupting, the world is shrouded in eternal darkness. As a result, the world has been taken over by vampire factions who rule different parts of the world and all supernaturals are under them and in their control. The FC is a Knight of Boudica which is a group of all female knights who fight against evil and monsters for money and are licensed to use magic to do so. The FC is also a dhampir which is a hybrid vampire/witch. Dhampirs are forbidden and killed immediately as they are deemed too powerful and a threat to the vampires. The FC must therefore hide what she is. The story arc revolves around the MC who is a royal vampire and the FC who must track down certain magical stones that others are also seeking and which could lead to the world being destroyed etc. Each book covers the discovery of a different stone and is a self contained story with the larger story arc and romance covering all 4 books. Book 4 is the final book in this series and ends with a climactic battle and HEA.

The books are well written and, on the whole, well edited although there are a few minor editing issues with the later books. The FC is likeable with a quirky sense of humour and very kick ass. The world build is good and solid as are the supporting characters with real relationship building which gives the whole story a real depth.

What I would flag is that this series is very PG. By that I mean that it is not just a slow burn but that the FC/MC do little more than share a few kisses, their is no sex, no swearing and a very „A Team“ approach to fights where nobody gets killed except actual monsters. This is despite the behaviour of some of the bad guys. So if you are looking for a sexy, hot romance or a dark, gritty story, this is really not the series for you. I very much enjoyed the series but did feel that it could have done with a bit more violence and heat. The world that the author describes and the behaviour of the vampires is reprehensible and yet everything is resolved with a nice neat bow at the end and no one actually admits that how the vampires behave is not acceptable and that some of them should have been punished. Not all individuals are redeemable which means that I felt some of the ending was not true to the characters that had been created.

Having said all this, if you are looking for an engaging, exciting, swashbuckling romp with a happy, feel good ending then this series is definitely worth your time. Just remember, this if very PG and is probably suitable for 12 year olds!

Yeeeeeah here I’m again!! Damn I can’t wait to have more of Callan and London relationship, it’s so refreshing!!! Callan is a incorrigible flirty and damn I LOVE his innuendos hahaha, and London ? Damn the girl is funny, a genius in history and a badass !!!

Fucking finally!!! We have a book with classic werewolves!!! You know guys Wolf shifter and werewolf aren’t the same, one turn into a big wolf like Jacob in Twilight and the other turns into a super hot beast super cool like in Van Helsing the movie.

“And I have a half dozen special companions waiting for me at my flat. I don’t need Romeo or anyone else.” Kami shook her head. “You and those animals. No wonder there’s no room for a man. He wouldn’t even have a spot to sit on the sofa.”

Damn London is like me… my room is so packed with animals that I absolutely also don’t have space for a person hahaha yeah girl I get you, who needs man when you have your loyal companions ? I love to watch London and Callan , seriously they’re my couple goals, their dynamics and how well they work together is so… well I only can think of one word and it’s refreshing, for a vampire prince and a really dangerous one Callan is pretty normal like a guy that was rich all his life, and his adventures with London make him see a new perspective and I fucking love his personality, arrogant sometimes, sarcastic, and even kind if you look close to his actions, yeah he’s a pretty good guy, but not so good that it’s boring , he isn’t black or white more like a dark grey hahaha .

Man I love how the author writes her character, the vampires royals are normal families that jabs each other or make fun of some situation but we can still feel they’re dangerous and cunning killers, this just makes all the world building be more rich and interesting. Yeahhhh this one ends in a cliffhanger!!! Damn Who the fuck dares fallow Callan? Damn I’m soooooooooo curious.

The second book is a series often tells the tale as to whether or not the first book was a fluke and the series is going to be good or bad. In the case of "Three Dog Knight," this installment definitely lets the reader know that the series is a good one. This read is just as good as the first.

This time London is back at work at a Knight and is trying to forget her growing interest in Callan, one prince of the vampires. The knights have been hired to investigate an abundance of rates in a neighborhood. London is nonplussed but the only creature she finds is a large fox. Additionally, she and her friend go to the local bar for a drink and stumble into a werewolf brawl that leaves a wolf dead. Upon an investigation by the werewolf council, London is hire by Romeo one of the members and she realizes that there is a greater threat at hand. It seems there is a beserker outbreak and London is needed to get to the bottom of the situation.

Of course the vampires get wind of the situation and Callan is not about to let London go off to investigate without him even if it means going into another vampire's territory. Along the way, London meet so many who are suffering for various reasons and she does all she can to help out when she can. However, there is one thing that will become increasingly clear, someone is not who they seem and if they are not discovered soon, more people will die.

The best part of a read is the slow unraveling of the plot and deviousness of some of the characters. The villains can be and are often more interesting than the protagonist. I am enjoying this series and looking forward to the next installment.

It’s book 2, but I think you could pick up the story without reading book 1. The world is dark, almost dystopian, with vampires in control of government and humans or witches attempting to bring back the sunlight. In such an earth, the vampire police are also supplemented by mercenary groups, or bounty hunters/detectives.

London is one of the bounty hunters, but she views her job humanely, treating her bounties as innocent unless proven guilty. She is judge, detective, executioner, and sometimes mediator. I like her a lot. When hired to remove rats from the dumpster (huge rats!), she finds a fox, raccoons, everything but rats. But the ‘victim’ insists she do her job despite his obvious prejudice.

Her real worry is a second hire by a local werewolf to find the magic stone causing other werewolves to go berserk. I won’t give away the ending, but it is a surprise.

What elevates the plot are the humorous side-plots, and I think it is more than ho-hum. I liked the first book better, but the plot has a bit of depth missing in some of the other books I have started and DNFed.

The romance is very light to non-existent, for those of us craving something more.

I think the series so far deserves attention.
⁃ Plot-heavy
⁃ Plot twists
⁃ Little romance
⁃ Theme: lightly moves around discrimination

I dither between 3 and 4 stars. It bored me 74% in, mostly because I craved more romance. The plot was good, though, and deserved a 4th star.

Extraordinarily entertaining post apocalyptic urban fantasy adventure series

This is an extraordinarily entertaining urban fantasy set an a post apocalyptic world a few decades in the future. Every super volcano on earth has erupted all of the ash end detritus from these volcanoes have blocked out the sun. Vampires and other supernatural beings have come out of the darkness along with many other supernatural creatures some of which creeped out of the earth into the darkness of a world with no sunlight. The vampires are the ruling class in the world and other supernaturals live under the rule along with all the humans that are left. Certain witches and wizards become knights which are basically a type of law-enforcement in this new world. An extraordinary cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline that will amaze you and entertain you from beginning to end. Read on and find out what happens in this book the second in the series.
Our main character London is a night and these adventures follow her and her story. She missed deal with vampires werewolves and many other supernatural and paranormal creatures. As well as dealing with humans and keeping certain secrets to herself. Action packed full of magic in the world that is similar to our own but so much different.

I really like these

It’s a strange and interesting world setup, with erupting super volcanoes bringing on Eternal Night, and a vampire and monster apocalypse upending the human world. There’s a lot going on and the MC, London Hayes, fits right in as a Knight who helps people deal with the fallout. She’s tough, intelligent and she doesn’t think with her hormones. The story has a tinge of romance, but it’s more about saying No than falling into bed. This comes as a huge relief to me, as I am very tired of books that get hijacked by sex scenes, with the stories squeezed into whatever pages remain.

I also like the idea of the Knights of Boudicca, as it’s rare to find a fantasy novel that has a sisterhood of warriors. Witches, sure, but in fantasy, women with weapons generally seem to travel alone or in mixed company. Not here though, and the way the Knights were viewed by other people, their home office, how they organized themselves and carried out their assignments all added a lot to the story. Ms Chase has a fine ear for relationships between women, and the ways women tease friends, so her Knights sound to me like a team of athletes who’ve played together a long time.

At any rate, Ms Chase writes very engaging stories: I’ve read the first two books in one sitting, and I’m glad there are more books in the series to dive into.

They Took The Stone

MidnightEmpireTower2

More stones. More tragedy. More greed.

London Hayes is a Knight of the Boadicea order, which means they are all female, and based in what used to be known as London, but is now Britannica City, named for the vampire queen who vanquished all the others.

The earth has an ash atmosphere due to the eruption of seven supervolcanos, all at once. The ash still blocks the sunlight, many years later. Technology has curved and now serves magic; and the vampires are at the top of the food chain, in more ways than one.

Shapeshifters and Magic users (witches and wizards) also came out of hiding; but all are regulated by the vampires. Humans are at the bottom, and a lottery system keeps the vampires from feeding frenzy; but not everyone makes it back from the tribute centers.

London has her own problems - she is a powerful elemental witch, with a bit extra. She hides as a midlevel witch, but has come under the scrutiny of the royal princes. Not even a snarky attitude can keep them at bay forever, and her efficiency as a problem solver keeps her on the radar.

Now, it seems there are stones of power that affect the exercise of magic; and they are winkling back to the surface, after centuries of burial.

Yeah…

entertaining and great characters

Rating: 4⭐️

I really enjoy this author and her characters and series in Midnight Empire: The Tower are getting more interesting with each book.

Three Dog Night’s best elements are involved in its main mystery and investigation, that of what’s making the local werewolf population go out of control.

It’s both a werewolf Alpha that seeks out Knights of Boudicca, specifically London Hayes, to solve the mystery. And that means bringing, unfortunately, the vampire royalty into this in the form of Prince Callan.

Chase has this investigation go incredibly complicated, takes the odd couple on the road, across territorial borders, which gives the author a chance to expand her universe and explore additional possibilities for other paranormal creatures and magical powers.

London herself emotionally doesn’t evolve that much but everything else around her is changing and it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. Not unexpected as this story has some wonderful twists and surprises to it.

Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

love this series

I should knock on wood with how excited this made me feel but yo, I liked this a lot. Especially when I stumble upon books hoping it’ll be something that fits my mood or preferences.

The writing is good. To the point, flows well, keeps me enthralled and doesn’t feel laggy. London gets a little commentary sometimes but I enjoy her humor. I love Cal and the way he can make a big impact with so little limelight and conversation. It plays a lot with London’s thoughts, I think. Which is cool to witness. It makes me root for something more.

The bad guy really threw me and I was as disgusted as she was. And dude but the possible risks that could’ve come and the things that really did come to pass were sad, and it only emphasized the danger in this world.

Love the world and what’s been built so far. Love her knights team. LOVE that I’m reading about a female knight (female seems to be a big thing in the world) who lives in a sunless world where vampires rule, and it can still feel like a “normal” read instead of a super intense book that, like, takes all the attention away. Characters come first.

Definitely a recommended read.

After successfully finishing a job for the terrifyingly powerful vampire royals, knight-for-hire London is happy to put the experience behind her—even if that includes the alluring vampire Prince she can’t seem to stop thinking about.

She has enough to worry about anyway, like the fact her very existence puts her at risk in a vampire-run world. Or that she actually deceived the royals, keeping the dangerous object she was hired to retrieve and handing over a decoy instead. As long as she continues to keep her head down and her nose out of vampire business they shouldn’t suspect a thing.

When an incident involving the largest shifter pack in the city has her reuniting with the very vampire royals she’s vowed to avoid, London has to work twice as hard to protect her secrets, and her willingness to keep the Prince at arm’s length.

This book has even more of the fast-paced action, witty banter, and vivid world-building that made the first so fun to read. It revolves around another quest that connects very nicely with the previous book and sets up events that have me eager to read the rest in the series!

Lots of action, as interesting as Book 1. But ... two things bothered me.

It's always disappointing when an author does this stuff. London is smart, and if I think about it, she should be thinking about it too. This makes the story less believable.
Aside from this disappointment, I liked it. I laughed. I started book 3.
