I really enjoyed the story in poetic verse. I found it humorous how Shelly tried on all kids of things to serve as a pretty shell like a bicycle helmet. Then in the end her own shell was beautiful after it had been cleaned bu the rain. And the lesson she learned was "Beauty can be found inside yourself." Go Shelly!!! And the pictures were very appealing.

Shelly the turtle was happy with her shell until she was invited to the Dragonfly Ball. She soon thought she needed something new and fancy to wear instead of her plain, dusty shell. Shelly then sets off to find a new shell. When everything she tries out just doesn't work out, Shelly realizes that her old dusty shell is perfect to wear for the ball, especially after it has had a nice rinse off from the rain.

I like the rhyming and the word choice!

Shelly's Shell Search would teach readers that sometimes what we are searching for in life may be right in front of us, and we may not realize it. A neat activity to go with this book might be for each student to come up with their own type of shell or maybe even hat instead. This gives students the chance to be creative and to use their imagination.
