K.R. Meera is an Indian author, who writes in Malayalam. She won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for her short-story, Ave Maria.She has also been noted as a screenplay writer of 4 serials.
Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala.She worked as a journalist in Malayala Manorama, later resigned to concentrate more on writing. She is also a well-known column-writer in Malayalam

'ആരാച്ചാർ' കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഏറെ പ്രതീക്ഷകളോടെ കാത്തിരുന്ന് വായിച്ച മീരയുടെ അടുത്ത പുസ്തകം. മരണം, കൊലപാതകം, ഹിംസ ഒക്കെത്തന്നെയാണ് പ്രമേയങ്ങളെങ്കിലും തികച്ചും വ്യത്യസ്തമായ വായനാനുഭവമാണ് 'ഘാതകൻ'. ആദ്യാവസാനം ഉദ്വേഗം നിറയ്ക്കുന്ന കഥാഗതിയും വളരെ മികച്ച കഥാപാത്രസൃഷ്ടിയും പിടിച്ചിരുത്തുന്ന കഥ പറച്ചിലും ഇതിനെല്ലാം മേമ്പൊടിയായി വർത്തമാനകാല സംഭവങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ചൂണ്ടി എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ സമയോചിതമായ വിമർശനങ്ങളും സാമൂഹ്യ, രാഷ്ട്രീയ ഇടപെടലുകളും കാഴ്ച്ചപ്പാടുകളും ചിന്തകളും ഒക്കെ പരിപക്വമായ അളവിൽ ചേർത്തത് നോവലിനെ ഗംഭീരമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഏറെ പ്രതീക്ഷയുണ്ട് മീരയിൽ.

നോട്ട് നിരോധനം നടന്നു ഒരാഴ്ചക്കുശേഷം, കൃത്യമായി പറഞ്ഞാൽ 2016 നവംബർ 16 നു ബാംഗ്ലൂരിരിലെ തന്റെ താമസ സ്ഥലത്ത് വച്ചു സത്യപ്രിയക്കു നേരെ ആദ്യ വധശ്രമം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു. ആരാണു തന്നെ വധിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നതെന്നോ എന്താണ് അയാളുടെ മോട്ടീവ് എന്നോ അറിയാത്ത സത്യപ്രിയ, 24 വർഷമായി പാരലൈസെഡ് ആയി കിടക്കുന്ന അച്ഛൻ പറഞ്ഞ അവസാന വാക്കിൽ തന്റെ ഘാതകനെ തേടിയിറങ്ങുകയാണ്. ആ വാക്കുകൾ ഇങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു, "അവന് ആളു മാറിയിട്ടില്ല, ഏതു നിമിഷവും നീയും വധിക്കപ്പെടും".

മീരയുടെ രചനകളെല്ലാം സ്ത്രീകളുടെ ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നുള്ള കഥ പറച്ചിലുകളാണ്. പക്ഷെ അതു വായിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷന്മാർക്കുപോലും (പരകായ പ്രവേശം ഒന്നും നടന്നില്ലെങ്കിലും) കഥാപാത്രം അനുഭവിച്ച തീക്ഷ്ണത ഒട്ടും കുറയാത്ത രീതിയിൽ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നു എന്നത് മീരയുടെ എഴുത്തിന്റെ മിടുക്കാണ്.  അതു ആരാച്ചാറിലെ ചേതനയായാലും സൂര്യനെ അണിഞ്ഞ സ്ത്രീയിലെ ജിസബെൽ ആയാലും ഘാതകനിലെ സത്യപ്രിയയായാലും.

ഘാതകനെ തേടി സത്യപ്രിയ തന്റെ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലേക്കു ഒരു യാത്രപോകുകയാണ്. ആ യാത്രയിൽ അവൾ അനുഭവിച്ച വേദനയും അപമാനവും ദാരിദ്ര്യവും അവഗണനയും ചതിയും എല്ലാമുണ്ട്. ഈ ജീവിതാനുഭങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം വർത്തമാന കാലത്തെ നോട്ടുനിരോധനവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തി വായനക്കാരെ ഉദ്വേഗത്തിന്റെ മുൾമുനയിൽ നിർത്തുന്ന ഒരു അപസർപ്പക നോവലാണിത്. കണ്ടെത്തലിന്റെ ഓരോ ഘട്ടത്തിലും സത്യപ്രിയയെപോലെ വായനക്കാരും ഞെട്ടിപോകും. ഒരുപാട് ട്വിസ്റ്റുകൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ഒരു പരിപൂർണ്ണ എന്റർറ്റൈനർ തന്നെയാണ് ഘാതകൻ.

ആണത്വത്തെ കുറിച്ചു നോവലിൽ പറഞ്ഞ ഒരു കാര്യം എനിക്കിഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു
"ആണത്വം എന്നത് ആണുങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടതല്ല. അതു അധികാരവുമായി ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. അതു ശെരിക്കും അധികാരത്വം ആണ്".

നോട്ട് നിരോധന സമയത്ത് സത്യപ്രിയയ്ക്ക് നേരെ ഒരു വധശ്രമം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു. ഘാതകനെത്തേടിയുള്ള സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ യാത്ര അവളുടെ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലേക്ക് വായനക്കാരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു. ആര്? എന്തിന്? എന്ന ചോദ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഉത്തരം തേടിയുള്ള അന്വേഷണമാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം. ഇടയിൽ ഒക്കെ വായനക്കാരെ ഭ്രാന്ത് പിടിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്താണ് ഇത് അവസാനിക്കാത്തത് ഇടയ്ക്കിടെ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്.

Assassin has more plot than all the novels I read last year combined. You only need to read the first chapter to know that you're in for a wildly dramatic ride. Set during the nerve-racking era of demonetization (which I now realise makes for a great story - why don’t we have many novels that dwell on significant Indian events? I've probably read more about Brexit and other such world events than about things that actually happened in my own country.), Assassin is about a gutsy woman who is a victim of attempted assassination. Her family’s history rivals the histories of some nations in tragedy, complexity, and sheer volume. She takes it upon herself to unearth the identity of her assassin, and her past unfolds as she investigates, spitting out various people who have motivations to harm her family. The character of her resilient, philosophical, and sardonic mother is one of the highlights of this novel. We don’t often read about the 50s and 60s in Indian novels, and it was nice to visit this period. There is a lot of unsettling violence in this novel, and it's very difficult to read at times. The author's note mentions that she was trying to capture the lived experience of Indian women, and I really hope that the life of an average Indian woman is far, far, far less traumatic than the lives of women in this book. The novel is overstuffed with characters and side stories that take the focus away from the central plot, and I wish it had been leaner and meaner. The theme of demonetization is dealt with in a heavy handed manner, and is eventually very tiring.

It is great to discover Indian female writers in translation, and bonus points if they are feminist and have a dark sense of humor. I discovered K. R. Meera through the Hindu Books newsletter which heaped a lot of praise on this novel. I'm glad I bought this book and am now very eager to check out her other novels.

Such a fantastic piece of work but could easily have been 100-150 pages short. Also felt like it was playing to the audience at few places. But I still adore K.R.Meera.

ഘാതകൻ ആരാച്ചാർ എന്ന നോവലിനോളം ഗംഭീ��മല്ലെങ്കിലും ഈ എഴുത്ത് മറ്റൊരു തലത്തിൽ ഏറെ മനോഹരമാണ്.
ഇതിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലും സംഭാഷണ ശൈലികളിലും നടപ്പുരീതികളിൽ നിന്നും വേറിട്ട് നിൽക്കുന്നു. ഈ വായനയിലെ ഏറ്റവും മനോഹരവും രസകരവും കഥാനായികയും അമ്മയുമായുള്ള സംഭാഷണങ്ങളാണ്.

സത്യയുടെ ഘാതകനെ കണ്ടെത്താൽ ഒരേ സമയം പോലീസും കഥാനായികയും അന്വേഷണം നടത്തുന്നുണ്ട്. കുറ്റാന്വേഷണത്തിൻ്റെ ത്രിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ പോലും നഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ വായനക്കാരനും അവരോടൊപ്പം അന്വേഷണത്തിൻ്റെ ഭാഗമാകാൻ കഴിയുന്നുണ്ട്.
കാലിക പ്രസക്തിയുള്ള ആശയങ്ങളും ചർച്ചകളും പല കഥാസാഹചര്യങ്ങളിലൂടെയുമായി വായനക്കാരന് മുന്നിലെത്തുന്നുണ്ട്.
അതി മനോഹരമായ നോവൽ. 560 ഓളം പ്രജുകളുള്ള ഈ പുസ്തകം എല്ലാ തിരക്കുകൾക്കിടയിലും വായിച്ചു തീർക്കാൻ രണ്ടേ രണ്ട് ദിവസമേ വേണ്ടിവന്നുള്ളൂ എന്ന് കൂടി പറയുമ്പോൾ ആ എഴുത്തിൻ്റെ മനോഹാരിത പറയാനില്ലല്ലോ?
നാട്ടിൽ പോയ സമയത്ത് തൃശൂർ മാതൃഭൂമി ബുക്സിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം വാങ്ങിയത്. പുസ്തകം എനിക്ക് ഗൾഫിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരാനുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് കൊണ്ട് രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് എൻ്റെ പ്രിയതമ ലിനുഫറും ഈ പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചു തീർന്നിരുന്നു. ആ രണ്ടു ദിവസം വീട്ടിൽ അടുപ്പു പുകഞ്ഞില്ലെന്ന് മാത്രമല്ല. ഞാനും മക്കളും പട്ടിണിയായിരുന്നു (ഹ... ഹ...)
മീരയുടെ ഘാതകനെ കിട്ടിയിട്ടും ഖബർ കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിയാത്ത വിഷമത്തിലാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ.

If you are looking for a page turner then this is it. Other than that I found the novel very long winded and not a satisfying read. Author wants to bring all her political convictions into this book and criticize the policies and actions of everyone except the communist party. To bring in Kashmir issue and maoist issue into picture, her lead character has lover from Kashmir who is a Maoist in Eastern India. But the experiences of this character from Kashmir is what we read in the newspapers and nothing more deeper than it or any different perspective than them.

In the end after traveling across India to trace her killer, we come to know some old ladies and close associates of the family knew all these things for many many years. Though the lead character or her mother or her very influential family members are the only people who doesn't know all this. Even though the killer had the lead character easily accessible to kill her he had to wait for 20 years and the demonetization announcement to act. Otherwise how can author keep on talk about demonetization so much. Though demonetization is the author's favorite topic in the first part of the novel, then there's almost no reference to it.

All the facts the lead character finds out with so much effort, the police also finds out but we are never told how they found out such things. For the lead character she gets all the solutions from people who are just waiting for her to approach them to reveal all of it.

The book I read had an essay by P.K.Rajashekharan, who finds all the inner layers and hidden meanings of the novel. But just like the novelist mentioned somewhere, this novel is like an onion, once you peel the layers one by one, you are left with nothing but the time you spent on reading this long long novel.

Its a roller coaster ride.

One of the most captivating thriller, literature and fiction.

So many twists and amazing plot development was keeping me on the edge until I finished it.

Sathyapriya a 44yr old unmarried woman forced to become a detective by herself to identify the person who tried to kill her a few times and his motive. Thus, she found out about herself and also about a lot of people who all were a part of her life in her bitter past.

The protagonist and her mother are so interesting. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

It was a crazy and disturbing journey.

നിങ്ങളിതുവരെ കെ ആർ മീരയുടെ 'ഘാതകൻ' വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ലേ? ഹയ്യോ, കഷ്ടം!!! പിന്നെന്തു വായന? അനുഭവത്തിൻ്റെ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ പറയാം, ഇതൊരു ആഴക്കിണറാണ്. ഒന്നുകിൽ എത്തി നോക്കി അപ്പോൾ തന്നെ പിന്മാറാം, ഏഴെട്ട് പടികളിറങ്ങിയതിന് ശേഷവും പിന്മാറാൻ അവസരം ഉണ്ട്. അതിൽ കൂടുതൽ ക്ഷമ കാണിച്ചാൽ, നോട്ട് നിരോധിക്കപ്പെട്ടതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളുടെ ക്ഷമയും നിരോധിക്കപ്പെടും. പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ട്  ഉദ്വേഗം മാത്രം. ഇതിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളത്രയും നിങ്ങളെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതായി തോന്നും. തുടങ്ങി വച്ചാൽ മതി. അതു പിന്നെ നമ്മളെ നയിച്ചുകൊള്ളും. വായിച്ചു തീർക്കാതെ രക്ഷയില്ല!!💯

2012ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ആരാച്ചാറി നു ശേഷം അതിനോട് കിടപിടിക്കുന്നതോ അതിനേക്കാൾ ഏറെ മുന്നിട്ടു നിൽക്കുന്നതോ ആയൊരു നോവലിന് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള കാത്തിരിപ്പ് വെറുതെയായില്ല. ഘാതകൻ എന്ന ഈ ബൃഹദ്നോവലിലൂടെ കെ.ആർ. മീര അത് സാധിച്ചു തന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

“നിങ്ങൾ എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും ഒരു വധശ്രമത്തെ നേരിട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടോ?” എന്ന വാചകത്തോടെ ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഈ നോവൽ 2016ലെ നോട്ടുനിരോധനത്തിനു സമാന്തരമായി നടക്കുന്നൊരു വധശ്രമവും അതിനെ ചുറ്റിപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള അന്വേഷണവുമാണ് പറയുന്നത്. നോട്ടുനിരോധനം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു എട്ട് ദിവസങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം ബെംഗളൂരുവിൽ സത്യപ്രിയ എന്നൊരു നാല്പത്തിനാലുകാരിക്ക് നേരെ ഒരാൾ വെടിയുതിർക്കുന്നു. പരിക്കൊന്നും കൂടാതെ സത്യപ്രിയയും പിടി കൊടുക്കാതെ ആ ഘാതകനും രക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് ആ ഘാതകൻ ആര്? എന്തിനു തന്നെ കൊല്ലണം? അവനു പിന്നിൽ വേറെ ആരെങ്കിലും കാണുമോ? ഇനിയും തനിക്ക് നേരെ വധശ്രമം ഉണ്ടാവുമോ? അതോ ആള് മാറി വെടിയുതിർത്തതാണോ? എന്നിങ്ങനെ സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിൽ തന്റെ നാട്ടിലെത്തുന്ന സത്യപ്രിയക്ക്, ഒരു അജ്ഞാതന്റെ കത്തിക്കുത്തേറ്റു വർഷങ്ങളായി ചലനശേഷി നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന അച്ഛൻ ശിവപ്രസാദിന്റെ മരണം നേരിടേണ്ടി വരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ സത്യപ്രിയയും അമ്മ വസന്തലക്ഷ്മിയും പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ടുള്ള ഉദ്വേഗജനകമായ കഥയുടെ പ്രധാന കരുക്കളാകുന്നു.

തനിക്കു നേരെയും അച്ഛന് നേരെയും ഉണ്ടായ വധശ്രമങ്ങൾ മാത്രമല്ല, പതിനേഴു വർഷം മുൻപ് ഒരു അപകടത്തിൽ മരിച്ച ചേച്ചി ശിവപ്രിയയുടെ മരണം കൊലപാതകം ആണെന്ന സംശയവും സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ നടുക്കം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നു. കൂടാതെ തനിക്ക് ഇതിനു മുൻപേ മൂന്നു വട്ടം ഉണ്ടായ അപകടങ്ങളും ആ സംശയത്തിന് ആക്കം കൂട്ടുന്നു. നാട്ടിലും സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ ഘാതകൻ അവരെ വെറുതെ വിടുന്നില്ല. വധശ്രമങ്ങൾ ആവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. ആരാണയാൾ? എന്താണ് അയാളുടെ മോട്ടീവ്? ഒരു ഉള്ളിയുടെ തൊലി അടർത്തിയെടുക്കുന്നത് പോലെ കഥയുടെ ചുരുളഴിയുകയാണ് പിന്നീടങ്ങോട്ടുള്ള ഓരോ പേജിലും. ഉള്ളിയുടെ തൊലി ഉരിയുന്തോറും കണ്ണിൽ നീറ്റലും കണ്ണീരും വേദനയും വരും. അന്നേരം കണ്ണീർ തുടക്കാനെടുക്കുന്ന സമയമാണ് സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലേക്കുള്ള എത്തിനോട്ടങ്ങൾ കടന്നു വരുന്നത്. ഇത്തരത്തിൽ ഭൂതകാലത്തിലേക്കും വർത്തമാനത്തിലേക്കും മാറി മാറിയുള്ള ഒരു കഥാകഥനരീതിയാണ് ഇവിടെ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അന്വേഷണം പുരോഗമിക്കുന്തോറും ഓരോ തെളിവ് ലഭിക്കുമ്പോളും അതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഭൂതകാലം സത്യപ്രിയക്കും വായനക്കാർക്കും ഒരു പോലെ ഞെട്ടൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന ഓരോ വഴിത്തിരിവുകൾ ആകുന്നുണ്ട്. തനിക്ക് നേരെ നടന്ന വധശ്രമങ്ങൾ തന്റെയും കുടുംബത്തിന്റെയും മറക്കേണ്ടതും അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കേണ്ടതുമ���യ ഒരു പാട് സത്യങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള ചൂണ്ടുപലകകൾ ആയി സത്യക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. സത്യക്കൊപ്പം തന്നെ വായനക്കാരനും ഉള്ളിൽ നീറ്റലും വെറുപ്പും ദുഃഖവും എല്ലാം അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നു. ഒരു കുറ്റാന്വേഷണ നോവൽ ആയതിനാൽ എനിക്കിവിടെ കഥാഗതിയെപ്പറ്റി കൂടുതൽ തുറന്നെഴുത്ത് സാധ്യമല്ല.

ഒരുപാട് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട് ഘാതകനിൽ. എന്നാൽ അവർ ആരെയും മറന്നു പോവില്ല നമ്മൾ. എല്ലാവർക്കും പ്രധാന വേഷങ്ങൾ ��ൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യാനുണ്ട്. പേരെടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടത് സത്യയുടെ അമ്മ വസന്തയെ ആണ്. വളരെ ശക്തയായൊരു അമ്മ കഥാപാത്രം. അക്കാലത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ സാമൂഹിക വ്യവസ്ഥിതിയും നിരോധിച്ചതും പുതുതായി വന്ന നോട്ടുകളും വരെ കഥയുമായി ഇഴുകിച്ചേർന്നിരിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ ഭാഗത്തു നിന്നുള്ള കഥാവിവരണം ആയിരുന്നിട്ടുകൂടി പുരുഷവായക്കാർക്കും ആ അനുഭവങ്ങളും മാനസികസമ്മർദ്ദങ്ങളും തന്റേതെന്ന പോലെ മനസ്സിലാക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാൻ കെ.ആർ. മീരക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ട്. മലയാളത്തിൽ ഇത്തരത്തിൽ ഒരു കുറ്റാന്വേഷണനോവൽ ഈയടുത്തൊന്നും ഞാൻ വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. കഥയുടെ ഉദ്വേഗം ഒട്ടും ചോർന്നു പോവാതെ വായനക്കാരെ മുൾമുനയിൽ നിർത്തുന്ന കഥാഗതിയും ചടുലതയുമുള്ളൊരു നോവൽ വായിക്കണോ? എങ്കിൽ എന്റെ സഹവായനക്കാരോട് ഉറപ്പായും ഘാതകൻ വായിക്കുവാൻ ഞാൻ പറയുന്നു.

ഒറ്റ വരിയിൽ  പറഞ്ഞൊതുക്കാൻ പറ്റിയ ഒന്നല്ല കെ. ആർ. മീരയുടെ ഘാതകൻ. എന്നെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു അത് തിരിച്ചറിവുകളുടെയും അതിലുപരി ഓർമ്മപ്പെടുത്തലുകളുടെയും ഒരു പുസ്തകമാണ്. തനിക്കു നേരെ വെടിയുതിർത്ത തന്റെ ഘാതകനെ തേടിയുള്ള ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ യാത്ര . അതവരെ പലപ്പോഴായി എത്തിക്കുന്ന ചീഞ്ഞ ഓർമ്മകളുടെ ചതുപ്പ് കുഴികൾ, പല തരത്തിലുള്ള ബന്ധങ്ങൾ എന്നതാണ്  ഈ നോവലിന്റെ വൃത്താന്തം. പണത്തിനും അധികാരത്തിനും അധിഷ്ഠിതമായ  സ്നേഹത്തിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തെകുറിച്ചു ,ആർത്തി മൂത്തു മനുഷ്യൻ ചെയ്തു കൂട്ടുന്ന കൊള്ളരുതായ്കളെ കുറിച്ച്, സ്ത്രീകളിൽ നിന്ന് സമൂഹവും പുരുഷന്മാരും ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന വിധേയത്വവും ഭയത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് , അത് ലഭിക്കാത്ത പക്ഷം അതവരിൽ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്ന അസ്വസ്‌ഥതകളെ കുറിച്ചെല്ലാം  മീര തുറന്നെഴുതുന്നു. പല തരത്തിലുള്ള മനുഷ്യരുടെ സ്വഭാവവൈരുധ്യങ്ങൾ , അവരെ , അവരുടെ പ്രവർത്തികളെ  സ്വാധീനിച്ച ഭൂതകാലങ്ങൾ  എന്നിങ്ങനെ അനായാസമായി  തോണ്ടിയിട്ടു പരിശോധിക്കുന്നത് കഥയിൽ പലയിടത്തും  നമുക്ക് കാണാൻ കഴിയും . പല വികാരങ്ങളുടെ  സമ്മേളനമാണ്  ഒരു തരത്തിൽ ഈ നോവൽ . വായിക്കുന്ന ഭൂരിപക്ഷംപേർക്കും , പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് സ്ത്രീ ആസ്വാദകർക്കു അല്പം ഒന്ന് അറക്കാതെ, അല്പം ഒന്ന് പേടിക്കാതെ ഇത് വായിച്ചു തീർക്കാനാവും എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നില്ല . കാരണം ബന്ധങ്ങൾ എന്നോ, സ്നേഹമെന്നോ വെച്ച് അളന്നു തൂക്കാതെ മനുഷ്യനെ പച്ചയ്ക്കു തൊലി ഉരിഞ്ഞു നിർത്തി വളരെ objective  ആയി വിലയിരുത്തുമ്പോൾ ചിലപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും ചില്ലു വിഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ ഉടയും . ചിലപ്പോൾ സ്വന്തമായി തന്നെ ഒന്ന് മരിച്ചു ജീവിക്കേണ്ടി  വരും .

അഞ്ഞൂറിലധികം പേജുള്ള വലിയൊരു പുസ്തകമാണ് ഇത് . പക്ഷെ ഘാതകൻ  ആരെന്നും , അവന്റെ സത്യമെന്തെന്നും തേടിയുള്ള യാത്ര വളരെ ത്രില്ലിംഗ് ആയിട്ടാണ് എനിക്ക് തോന്നിയത് . അതുകൊണ്ടു താല്പര്യമുള്ളവര് വാങ്ങിച്ചു വായിക്കുക .

നദിയുടെ ഒഴുക്ക് പോലെ വായിച്ചു തീർക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്ന ഒരു നോവൽ. കെ ആർ മീര തൻറെ പതിവ് ശൈലിയിലാണ് ഈ കൃതിയും രചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

സത്യപ്രിയ ആണ് നോവലിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രം. തന്നെ കൊല്ലാനായി നടക്കുന്ന ഘാതകനെ തേടിയുള്ള ഒരു യാത്രയാണ് ഈ കഥ.ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഉടനീളം Paedophilia ആയ തന്റെ അച്ഛനോടുള്ള പ്രതികാരം ആണ് തന്നെയും വേട്ടയാടുന്നതെന്ന് സത്യപ്രിയ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു.അച്ഛൻ ശിവപ്രസാദിന്റെ മരണം, ചേച്ചി ശിവപ്രിയയുടെ മരണം എല്ലാത്തിന്റെയും പിന്നിൽ ഒരു ഘാതകനാണ്. അയാളാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെയും വേട്ടയാടുന്നത്...

ആര്,എന്തിന്,എങ്ങനെ - ഈ മൂന്ന് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾക്കും ഞാൻ ഉത്തരം അന്വേഷിക്കുകയാണ്. അത് കിട്ടിയാൽ എന്റെ കുറ്റഅന്വേഷണം പൂർത്തിയാകും.

സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ അമ്മ വസന്ത ലക്ഷ്മിയുടെ ക്യാരക്ടർ വളരെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു, വളരെ ബോൾഡും സ്ട്രോങ്ങുമായ ഒരു സ്ത്രീ.

ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ചില വരികളിലൂടെ.....

"അനുഭവത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഞാനൊരു ഉപദേശം തരാം: വല്ലപ്പോഴും ഒക്കെ പഴയ കാമുകന്മാരെ തേടി പോകണം. അവരോടൊപ്പം സമയം ചെലവിടണം. അവരെ പിരിഞ്ഞതിനുശേഷം നാം സഞ്ചരിച്ച ദൂരം അപ്പോൾ മനസ്സിലാകും. പിന്നെ ഒരു കാര്യം, ചിലപ്പോൾ പോയതുപോലെ തിരികെ വരാൻ സാധിക്കില്ല. എങ്കിലും പേടിക്കേണ്ട, ആഫ്റ്റർ ഓൾ, ഒരേ പുരുഷൻ ഒരു സ്ത്രീയെ രണ്ടുതവണ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തിയ ചരിത്രമില്ല."

ഒരു ഇടവേളക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് വായന വീണ്ടും തുടങ്ങിയത്. മൂന്നുദിവസം കൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ നോവൽ വായിച്ച് തീർത്തത്. നല്ല അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു.🧚

ഘാതകനെ തേടിയുള്ള സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ യാത്രയിൽ മുഴുകിയിരുന്ന എന്നേതേടി ദേജാവു (Déjà Vu) വന്നു. ഹമ്പോ അതൊരനുഭവം തന്നാരുന്നു.. കിളിപോയി !!

ബെഡ്റൂമിൽ ചാരുകസേരയിൽ ചാരിക്കിടന്നു സുഖലോലുപനായി ആവേശത്തോടെ, "സത്യപ്രിയ" അനുഭവിച്ചപോലെ ഉദ്വേഗത്തോടെ ഘാതകനിലൂടെ ഒഴുകി നീങ്ങുമ്പോഴുണ്ട് പൊടുന്നനെ എനിക്ക് ഞാൻ ഒരു ലൂപ്പിൽ പെട്ടത് പോലെ ഒരു തോന്നലുണ്ടായത്. പുസ്തകം പിടിച്ചു ഇരുന്ന അതേ ഇരിപ്പിൽ അന്നേരം വായിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന കഥാസന്ദർഭം ഇരിപ്പിന്റെ പൊസിഷൻ അടക്കം ഒരണുവിട വ്യത്യാസമില്ലാതെ മുൻപും വായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നൊരു തോന്നൽ.

അക്ഷരങ്ങളിലേക്ക് നോക്കുന്തോറും ആ തോന്നൽ പിന്നേയും അധികരിച്ചു. കെടാത്ത ആവേശവുമായി നിമിഷങ്ങൾക്കകം വായനതുടർന്നു പുസ്തകം അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോഴേക്കും ഏത് കഥാസന്ദർഭം വായിച്ചപ്പോഴാണോ ദേജാവു വന്നത് അത് മറന്നും പോയിരിക്കുന്നു. പേജ് നമ്പർ അറുനൂറുകളിലും ഇടത് ഭാഗത്തെ പേജുമായിരുന്നു എന്നൊരു കരുണ മാത്രം ഓർമ്മ കാണിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

ഇനി ഘാതകനിലേക്ക്. അറുനൂറിലധികം പേജുകൾ ഉണ്ട് ഈ നോവലിന്. വായിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി ഒരു ഘട്ടത്തിൽപ്പോലും വിരസത തോന്നാതെ ഉദ്വേഗത്തോടെയും ആവേശത്തോടെയും ഒക്കെയാണ് ഞാൻ ഘാതകൻ വായിച്ചവസാനിപ്പിച്ചത്.

സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ ആത്മകഥയാണിത്. തൻ്റെ ഘാതകനെ തേടിയുള്ള, അയാളുടെ കഥ തേടിയുള്ള യാത്ര ചെന്നവസാനിക്കുന്നത് സത്യാപ്രിയയുടെ തന്നെ കഥ അവൾ അറിഞ്ഞും മുമ്പ് നടന്ന വഴികൾ വീണ്ടും നടന്നും അവസാനം തകർന്നും ആണ്. ഇതിൽ ഒരുപാട് കഥാപാത���രങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ട്. അവരിൽ ഓരോരുത്തരും പ്രാധാന്യം അർഹിക്കുനവരാണ്. കാരണം അവർക്ക് അവരുടേതായ കഥയുണ്ട്, justification ഉണ്ട്. Pedophilia എന്ന ഒരു topic ഉം അതു വഴി ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന പ്രേശ്നങ്ങളും ഇതിൽ ചർച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇതിൽ എല്ലാവരും മനുഷ്യരാണ്. തെറ്റുമുണ്ട് ശരിയുമുണ്ട്. ചില ഇടങ്ങളിൽ നോട്ട് നിരോധനമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കാര്യങ്ങൾ പറയുമ്പോൾ lag ഉള്ളത് പോലെ തോന്നിയിരുന്നു. കുറച്ചും കൂടി വേഗത്തിൽ അവളെ കൊല്ലാൻ വേണ്ടിയുള്�� ഉദേശം പറയാം എന്ന് തോന്നി. എങ്കിൽ അവസാനം ആ reason പെട്ടന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു തീർത്തപോലെയും തോന്നി. സ്നേഹം, കൊടുക്കൽ വാങ്ങൽ, ദേഷ്യം, വിദ്വേഷം, പക എന്നിങ്ങനെ കുറെ emotions ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ വന്ന് പോകുന്നുണ്ട്. സത്യപ്രിയയുടേ അമ്മയുടെ attittude വളരെ രസമുള്ള ഒന്നായി തോന്നി. ഒരു നല്ല page turner ആയിട്ടുള്ള ത്രില്ലർ.

Assassin is a book about the so-called “difficult” woman, with Satyapriya being the embodiment of that. Women who do not fit into the mould created for them by society. They upset society and make the men uncomfortable with their confidence and independence. This is visible in every interaction Satya has with Anurup, Sameer, or Mahipal Maharaj. Satya, being middle-aged and unmarried, also disturbs a lot of women. Her mother, Vasanthalakshmi, is also not subversive. In fact, she is my favourite character in the book. A woman surrounded by adversities, who still retains her strength, her identity and her humour.

Very engaging plot. As usual Meera doesn’t disappoint in bringing out some very strong female characters. The plotline weaves in and around the protagonist Satyapriyas past and present. Great writing and suspense is maintained to the very end. Absolutely loved the mom character, may be even more than the protagonist. Always a fan of the feminism and views expressed in her books. There are some parts where the writing may seem redundant but it picks the pace back up very quickly.

A long read at 700 pages but worth the time and effort!

എഴുന്നൂറോളം പേജുകൾ ഉള്ള ഈ പുസ്തകം തീരെ മടുപ്പില്ലാതെ വായിക്കാൻ പറ്റിയെങ്കിൽ അത് K R Meera എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ കഴിവാണ്. സ്വന്തം ഖാതകനെ അന്വേഷിച്ച് ഇറങ്ങിയ സത്യപ്രിയയുടെ കഥയാണിത്. നാൽപത്തിനാല് വയസിനിടയിൽ അവർ അനുഭവിച്ച സുഖങ്ങളും ദുഖങ്ങളും പീഡനങ്ങളും പ്രേമവും എല്ലാം ഒട്ടും dilute ചെയ്യാതെ പച്ചയായി പറയുന്നുണ്ട് ഇതിൽ.
തീരെ ബോർ അടിപ്പിക്കാതെ ആദ്യം മുതൽ അവസാനം വരെ ത്രില്ലിംഗ് അയി, ഇനിയും ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ബാക്കിയാക്കി ആണ് ഖാതകൻ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്.

This is my first KR Meera book. I had heard a lot about her, but have not had the chance to read any of her books.
Her command over Malayalam is excellent and the writing style and flow are one of the best.

However I thought that the book is too long and she has made it unnecessarily confusing and complicated. The heroine suffers every mishap on earth where something simpler would have done with her beautiful style of writing

After reading Aarachaar, it was with atleast or an equivalent that that I hoped for this one, but sadly both can’t be compared. I can say about each character in Aarachaar and how beautifully they were engraved.
Here in Ghathakan, it’s good book, but having read Aarachaar, I feel but disappointed..
