NLT One Year Chronological Study Bible

Rate this book
Are you ready for a rich, fresh experience with God's Word? The One Year Chronological Study Bible from Tyndale orders the entire Bible chronologically and divides it into 365 daily readings. As you read, you'll discover how the narrative of Scripture fits together from beginning to end. Through the chronology of 14 historical eras, the Bible's magnificent story unfolds with greater clarity and power as you read each day, harmonizing the narrative, history, teachings, and redemptive covenants in a seamless account. This, the greatest story ever told, reads as we're used to a story reading--from the beginning to the end, aligning the drama, teaching, prophecy, and poetry in the timeline from the ancient past to the promised future. With study notes and devotional questions each day, you'll see the unfolding of God's work among His people. Even better, you'll also see your place in God's grand story.

While there are many chronological Bibles, study Bibles, and devotional Bibles, The One Year Chronological Study Bible stands out as a Bible offering all of those elements. It's a rare combination of study and devotional content on nearly every page and the chronologically ordered New Living Translation text organized in 14 eras of history.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Bible this year. This version has equipped me and I have learned so much as I saw the redemptive thread all throughtout scripture from Genesis to Revelation.

Loved reading scripture like this where the book is laid out chronologically and you never have to flip around. The commentary and questions are so deep, and I’ve learned much from them.

I endeavored to read the Bible straight through, chronologically in the month of January. After research, I chose this version, and it was wonderful! I appreciated the transition notes from day to day and the three questions following each day of study. I highly recommend both this version of the Bible, and reading it straight through as you would any other book. It’s worth it to see the themes of scripture unfold.

LOVED this version!! The New Living Translation is written in a way that is accessible and easy to read. At the beginning of each day’s reading there is a summary/explanation of the reading and its connection and relevance to the big story. It was SO HELPFUL! I recommend this book to anyone who has ever considered reading the Bible cover to cover but didn’t know how or where to start. I am going to read it again this year!

If I could give this Bible 10 out 0f 5, I would. It took me 16.5 months to get through it instead of 12, but that's okay. You can go at your own pace.

Unlike most Bibles that group the different books into categories, such as the Pentateuch, history, prophets, gospels etc; a chronological Bible puts the books in the order in which the events occurred. Every verse of the Bible is still there, but they're just arranged chronologically. For example, rather than having all the prophetic books grouped together, the prophets are interspersed with the history books to show where they actually appeared in the time sequence. For books that cover some similar material (e.g., the Parable of the Sower appears in more than one of the gospels), the similar chapters are put together. If you want to go to a particular chapter of the Bible, there's a master index at the back. However, I really enjoyed reading it chronologically.

I've been a Christian for more than 60 years and I had previously read all of the books within the Bible, but I feel like I gained such a deeper understanding by reading it this way and seeing how everything fits together. I have a much clearer picture now of the history of Israel, the divided kingdom and exile, the return of the Israelites and the prophets. It was also really enlightening to read some of the New Testament letters interspersed with the missionary journeys of Acts so you could gain a better understanding of the different churches.

Before I started, I took a lot of care in choosing which chronological Bible I would use, as there are different versions and themes. I really enjoyed this one for a number of reasons. I hadn't read the New Living Translation before and I really liked it. Each day's reading started with a summary paragraph, which was so helful. These paragraphs not only summarised the key points in that day's reading, but also linked it to other parts of the Bible. There were also a few discussion questions at the end of each day's reading, and I kept a journal of my answers to those questions, which also helped me to think more deeply about it. A few key articles are also included that help bring it all together as one cohesive story.

If you have never read the Bible chronologically, I'd really encourage you to do so. I can highly recommend the process and this Bible in particular.

This is the first time I've ever read the entire Bible in a year, though I've tried before. This Chronological New Living Translation made this project flow much easier than it would have otherwise. I especially enjoyed the introduction to each day's reading, which set the tone for the text and alerted me to watch for specific themes. And I'd never read a chronological Bible before; it was a fascinating project. I was surprised to find myself really enjoying the portions that previously were a struggle to get through.

Excellent for personal study. The chronological arrangement gave me a much clearer idea of the timeline of scripture and its implications. The commentary was often helpful, as well.

I finished the Bible in one year, which is probably my biggest accomplishment of 2024. I have such a better and deeper understanding of my religion and spirituality. Being raised a "Chreaster" Catholic, I had no idea how long and how much history is contained in the Old Testament. Once I got used to the language and writing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Old Testament takes almost 9 months to read through, and I found the stories and accounts of history fascinating. The way the New Testament is set up in the Chronological Study Bible is why I gave this version 4 stars. The four Gospels are put together simultaneously, so you are reading the same story or parable from Jesus with 3 or 4 different perspectives all at the same time. I think the study Bible would have done better to separate each of the four Gospels (reading each book of the Gospel in its entirety before reading another Gospel). It would not have detracted from the timeline and instead provided a more unified perspective of the Gospel writer's experience.

Best chronological journey I've experienced in God's word

I loved this NLT form of scripture with study notes and references. Things became clearer to me this time. I've read God's Word in chronological fashion via reading lists in the past, but this was much better. Everything was broken down and clearly organized into daily reading schedules with extra background info of the different eras covered in the Bible.

I would, and have, suggest this to others . If reading through God's word has seemed confusing or intimidating in the past, this might be the one version that finally puts our history into perspective from creation until now.

This version has opened up nuances I've never seen in my years of reading in KJV, NKJV or others. Thank you Tyndale.

This is my favorite chronological Bible that I’ve read yet. The daily reading sections are the very manageable and perfect length, which makes it so easy to read the entire Bible in one year.

I found the format of this edition chronological Bible to be very helpful with the short overview and explanation at the start of each day’s reading. It really helped make the passages more easily understandable.

I also really like the overview of each of the 14 eras it breaks the Bible into. It gives a nice overview of the major themes of the Bible. I highly recommend this version!

I highly recommend the NLT One Year Chronological Study Bible by Tyndale. I was able to read the entire bible and it made sense by going in chronological order. I really love how it opens up with a synopsis of what the reading will be and how it closes with Daily Discovery Questions. This is not just a Chronological Bible - it's a Study Bible! If you are struggling with completing your yearly bible reading plan, I recommend trying this method/bible out.

I Did It!

I like this Bible. I appreciated the daily summaries at the beginning of each day. The section descriptions helped identify how God was speaking and when God was acting. The New Living Translation was easier to read and understand than the NIV I had used previously.

This Bible was used in a congregation-wide challenge to read the Bible in a congregation-wide challenge to read the Bible in a year. They liked this chronological study Bible.

If your goal is to read the Bible through in a year but in a chronological order, this one certainly helps. The NLT translation is also helpful to those who want something easier to understand, yet still a scholarly translation work. It is also a good changeup if you are used to reading a different translation (like me) and want to mix it up a bit

Reading chronological is a game changer. This specific Bible also has daily questions and summaries as well as a supplemental app. The Bible is broken into Eras and it helps put the Bible into the correct perspective: One story, HISstory. Thankful for this Bible and the impact it’s had on my church.

A fantastic way to read through the Bible

I have tried several yearly Bible reading plans. This is by far the best one I have come across. The translation is easy to read. The beginning of each day has a preview of what will be read. At the end of the reading there are questions about that day’s reading. This is very well organized. Años I can recommend it.

Putting the Bible in context

I loved the synopsis of the day's reading, giving insight to what we read... And the weaving of the passages together as they were written.
. Along with the questions following the days reading. I took notes each day in my journal, copying favorite verses.
