The 7th Latin American Symposium on Polymers (SLAP' 2000), sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, was held in Havanna, Cuba, in November 2000. Topics covered included chemical modifications and specialty polymers, polymer processing, composites, biomass utilisation, biopolymers and natural polymers, biodegradation, recycling, biomedical applications and polymer physics. The present volume of Macromolecular Symposia collects some of the invited lectures giving an overview on the main challenges and perspectives in current macromolecular science.
