Hands down my favorite fantasy/Isekai webcomic or manga I’ve ever read. I adore this. It is consistently hilarious, characters are lovable, and our MC is a truly chaotic force that always keeps me guessing. I was riveted up to the last chapter. Fantastic.
I read this as a webtoon. It was a long but enjoyable journey.
The many names FL is portraying a working woman that gets in an accident and, as she passes away while reading her favourite novel, she gets transported to the world of that novel. She then get's excited about coexisting in the same universe of her favourite side character, Prince Kyle, and her persona evolves an extreme level of thirsting for the character's appearance and behaviour, but mostly his looks. The author picks up on traits often seen in the fans of the romance genre such as fangirling/stanning. At first, that's all the story is about but then the message of the story becomes clearer: side characters in the original novel are people too and deserve attention. The prince is suspicious of this new person's sudden appearance and assumes she's out for his life since he's one of the main candidates to the emperor throne. As to keep her under his vigilance without raising suspicion, he tells her to stay not far from his palace. She finds work at his private stable and cross-dresses as a man - this is because working at a stable is not considered a women's job in that era. The story progresses by showing us the day-to-day life of stable boy Joe and how he wishes his prince would fall in love and they would get married.
There are two seasons. The first season has the most chapters and is a bit more light hearted. We see Joe becoming friends with every commoner he crosses paths with and even a few nobles. The main characters of the original novel show up at some point and become friends with Joe too. The season's focus is on Joe's charms as a person and how he improves the life of everyone else. The prince starts to show favour to his stable boy and believing that Joe really has genuine feelings for him. In a world surrounded by cold-hearted people and having to watch his back constantly in order to survive, the prince starts to see Joe's value in his life.
Season two is my favourite. By this point, most of the relevant characters have been introduced and the emotional value established, so the story can start to have a bigger plot. This is where Joe starts to shine not for his quirky rule-bending personality but because both us and him start to discover talents brought up by circumstance. He's put in difficult situations and we have to see how he get's out of them. The war arc adopts a darker tone and even though the humour is still there for tension relief, I didn't feel like it took away the impact of the actions and themes.
I feel like the story was made to let the female characters shine. Joe, Deloah, Priscilla all played fundamental roles in supporting their Princes. Tasha had a big impact in Snow's life too. If anything, sometimes I felt that the male characters weren't on par with the ladies, at points they were pretty much like puppets.
I enjoyed how Joe kept going from being a woman to man and swapping around as it if made no difference to them. I wouldn't say that it didn't dictate their personality but it didn't define it. While Geumja might have been tomboyish inclined, she also completely succeeded in deceiving everyone playing as boy Joe for many years. None of the characters that knew her real identity treated her different for it. Isabella was able to get her more feminine side out of her more than once too. Geumja/Joe was neutral and Kyle and her friends loved her nonetheless. Ofc it's a fantasy, they may mention that men aren't socially accepted as a couple but there wasn't any active discrimination at the idea that male-Joe loved Kyle openly and the end goal was marriage.
The ending was just like a fairytale from the old days where the happy ever ending doesn't show us beyond the
Once again, I enjoyed the lenght of the story. It accompanied me for a few nights worth of reading. I enjoyed how non-conformative it was. It picked up commonly used cliches and made a satire out of them. The artsyle was gorgeous as well. I found myself stopping in some of the panels just to appreciate how beautiful they were.
too few people have read this !! i personally think that this story is on par with many of more popular manhwas of the same genre. just like side characters, this manhwa deserves some love too !!
i went into it with fairly low expectations, partly because some of the reviews i saw but to my surprise, it was much better than I anticipated ! you just gotta shut your brain off sometimes—especially during the first half—bc it can get unrealistic and some plot points can be a little out there (and that’s basing it on fantasy levels of realism) but i personally had no problems with it tbh you just gotta go with it LMAO this has shocking depth to it and and the way the tone always shifts from comedy to action to romance to melodrama to REAL drama (sometimes all in a single chapter) was really unexpected, but in a good way. it constantly keeps you on your toes.
the characters are also incredibly likable. the main character has A LOT of personality and there’s not a single word enough to describe her HAHA she’s a badass but emotional (as opposed to a lot of “stoic badass” female characters), she’s flawed and makes horrible choices, she uses humor as a coping mechanism, she’s a simp and a pervert, but can also be ridiculously smart. shockingly, she’s also very talented at many things and works really really hard but bc the story is told in her pov, she doesn’t always realize that herself. i personally think she’s not very self-aware which makes her an unreliable narrator in some aspects so there are some parts you have to make sense/deduce yourself as a reader bc she won’t tell you straight up with her thoughts.
kyle is also a pretty good ml and i like that he’s not op and makes mistakes. he’s a good guy and loves the fl a lot but he’s not perfect. he makes horrible choices, can be immature, and can sometimes be helpless but he can also stand on business and isn’t afraid to tell the fl how much he wants and needs her. he’s vulnerable with her and isn’t afraid to show it and admit it (despite the fl disguising as a man for like .. 98% of the story so gay rumors are just another day for them) i’d take a ml like this any day over a “perfect” ikemen with a personality of a cabbage that constantly swoops in to save the day for the damsel in distress or everytime the fl gets in trouble.
not to mention the side characters ?? staying true to its title, the manhwa really does give all the side characters the attention they deserve. i was surprised how quickly i got invested in them and i like how they’re also all written as flawed human beings with depth. not all of them had a lot of screentime but they didn’t need to bc the scenes they are in are so impactful. not one panel was wasted in characterization !!
i genuinely did not expect to like this as much as i did to the point that i cannot stop yapping about it LMAO but i am telling you that this manhwa gets better every chapter. if it doesn’t hook you from the beginning, push through and i promise it will reward you :>
definitely much different from anything i’ve read of the same genre so if you’re looking for something else to spice up your usual reading, i would def recommend it.
(also joe is a genderfluid legend and you can’t change my mind)
it was marvelous. hilarious. i couldn't stop laughing. i was utterly disappointed when they stopped having telepathic abilities tho. it was the best part of the whole thing. so hilarious.
i love how besotted he was towards her halfway through omggggggggg. male yearning >>>>>>
i decided to stop reading manhwa for a while bc i really don't have any self control once i've started reading. i literally couldn't get anything done bc i was just reading this.
Read the manhwa. It started off really cringe to the point it was a bit annoying and I was gonna drop it. I decided to keep going. It was still cringe along with becoming absurd and hilarious. I was constantly laughing and smiling throughout the story. It did get darker towards the end and I laughed less, but I enjoyed the war arc.
At first it was hilarious but the excessive fangirling is just way too draggy so starting ch. 40, i just skipped & skimmed thru the chapters. Still, the story became better as the plot thickens towards the end.
FL was an amazing woman! She transmigrated to novel and had to hide her gender. When she joined the war, she became unstoppable. She was God(dess) of War. She was a successful fangirl who came to make ML (the side character) had happy life and became the King!
THIS STORY IS REALLY CUTE!!!!! It's definitely a comedy but also takes itself seriously in ways that matter. Our MC is a cutie pie, and as of chapter 72, I don't hate anything yet!! Hurray!!
Funny, but when I caught up it started to get boring. And I am over the crossdressing. It finished so I just skipped to the end and didn't miss anything
This one goes for a histrionic comedic tone that I just can't quite wrap my head around. The gimmick is that the prince can hear all her fangirling commentary. While once or twice might be funny, every day for months it becomes toxic rather than humorous. Further, she doesn't really seem concerned with the terrors from the book. The readers don't know enough of what is to come to predict events or be shocked when they go awry. New mechanics, rules, and people just kind of appear. It's a bit different than the stock novel transmigration stories but it wasn't enough to keep me engaged. DNF.
