Rory wants revenge. The only thing standing in her way is them. After she stealing her family spell book back from the museum exhibit it had been cruelly placed in after her grandmother's death, a PI team is sent to find her. They make her a deal: she has two weeks to convince them not to turn her in, but they won't leave her side until time's up, or they hand her and the book over to the guards.
Vengeance, secrets, lies and heat that threatens to break her resolve to hate them all...
This is a fantasy reverse harem book, meaning that the main character does not have to choose between the love interests. MMFM.
Thieves and Thorns is a dark, twisted story of pasts and revenge woven into a masterpiece of fantasy and sin. It follows the story of heroine Rory and her plot to revenge that is inconveniently interrupted by three acquaintances...although they were definitely easy on the eyes. This book is practically dripping with sin, but I'm not complaining.
Theives and Thorns is the first book in Scarlet King's new reverse harem duology. Following four Mythics, Rory the dark witch, Ezra the Shifter, Conan the Elemental, and Darius the demon and their spicy endeavors that are slowly uncoiling six years of revenge plotting. After escaping her abusive ex, Rory begins her journey towards vengeance for herself and the other victims who are under the manipulation of her ex's twisted idea of love. To achieve this goal, it all starts with one essential item, her family's grimoire. A grimoire trapped in a museum, at the hands of humans for years since her grandmother's house surrendered to ashes. In her attempt to steal it back, she attracts the attention of Darius, an incubus who recently escaped from hell, as well as a private investigator duo, Ezra and Conan, hired to retrieve the stolen artifact. Only plans shift when they agree to live with her for two weeks. Rory doesn't need their help, but with them wrapped around her finger, they are more than willing to give it to her...and more. She's fiery and stubborn, and the arrogance among Ezra, Darius, and Conan crave it.
The spice in this book is indescribable. From group scenes to MM scenes, praise to degradation, everything down and dirty. Hot scenes, hot characters, and even hotter dynamics. Scarlet presents the opportunity for the heroine to explore areas of her trauma along the lines of PTSD, nightmare, and as a sexual assault victim. Ezra, Conan, and Darius help her reclaim her sexuality with a layer of trust. It had a tremendous impact on the story; it is worth mentioning how well executed it was throughout the book.
I read this book in a single sitting. The first line alone had me hooked. I was addicted to the characters, the spice, and the descriptions; everything was as incredible as I expected. AND THE CLIFFHANGER. I have absolutely no words. It is safe to say I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fantasy, character-driven, dark romance book. This one fulfills all you would need.

If you are a lover of all things fantasy and major spice, get onto this book!
There are a few trigger warnings so make sure you check those out before you read this book. Thieves and Thorns follows Rory's journey for revenge from past trauma, and along the way she meets Darius, Ezra and Conan. There are some grumpy/sunshine vibes between Darius and Rory, as well as Ezra and Rory, with Rory being the grumpy one which is a nice change! And the TENSION between Conan and Rory 🥵🔥
This book is a fantasy reverse harem with M/M scenes, and the spice in this book is top notch 👌🌶🌶🌶 I WAS NOT EXPECTING this book to end on a cliffhanger! For some reason I thought it was a standalone, and now I will be impatiently waiting for the next book to come out so I can find out what happens next! 😅
Looking for your next read?? Look no further because here it is!!!
A dark fantasy reverse harem book about a dark witch full of trauma getting railed by 3 sexy ass men?!?! Ummm I think the fuck YESSSSSS.
Now, I'm gonna throw this out there because I feel like it needs to be said. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE! And that's OK.
And for fucks sake people, PLEASE make sure you read the kink and trigger warnings before diving into this book because if there's one thing I can't stand it's people that don't take heed to the warnings from the book and from other book reviewers and go in blind only to later write a crop review about how there was too much kink and spice and too much violence or how they couldn't continue due to the traumatic events the main character experienced. THAT'S WHAT THE WARNINGS ARE THERE FOR. So you know if you can handle the book or not!!! ***WOOOOSAAAAHH
Anywayssssss, moving on to my review! Scar really just threw out another hit book filled with all of our dark desires and dreams. A book that will have you asking for forgiveness for you sinful thoughts while the ache between your thighs throbs harder with need as you binge read chapter after chapter and your toy is in desperate need of a break after working overtime!!! **AHEM not that this was my experience or anything. Scar totally didn't just give me multiple orgasms and shatter me within 24 hours and just 1 book. Not at all. 😳😳😳😳😵💫😵💫😵💫
Oh right, did I mention that you are going to hate Scarlett for all of the twists and turns, the sexual tension, the literal hell she puts Rory through, and the god damned cliffhanger at the end that made me throw my phone and scream "WTF SCAR!!! (Insert spoiler ending and a lecture along with a threat and add some tears and hyperventilating for good measure.)" 🤣🤣🤣😏
Seriously, I'm pretty sure everyone else who ARC read this with me ended up messaging her in tears she destroyed us all in so many dirty, delicious, and sadistic ways!!! But let me just tell yall that I loved every tear she made me shed, every outburst of emotion she forcefully dragged out of me, and every single second of heart wrenching, gut stabbing pain she put me through. I 100% will go through it all again with her next book, and every single one after that!!!
If you are like me and have suffered lots of trauma in your life then you will appreciate that Rory also has tons of trauma and suffers more throughout the book while also working through it all!!! Seriously, Rory is such a strong, powerful, sexy, amazing, and sarcastically hilarious woman that I want to be her when I grow up. And I mean, who wouldn't?? Bitch has 3 hot and powerful ass men destroying her insides!! I love their relationship dynamic btw, fucking love the banter and the teasing! I fucking love all of it!!
I highly recommend this book if you love dark romance, reverse harem, PNR, and fantasy books like I do. I know for a fact you will enjoy this book!! 😘
Holy shit, I just stepped into a world of dark pasts, vengeful futures and 🥵🔥😈 currents. Thieves and Thorns was a beautifully woven, sinfully sexy tale of Rory (who I have deemed by soulmate) and her three tantalizingly beautiful alphaholes, each of whom love and dominate her in their own unique ways which I absolutely loved to see 🤫. Each of these alphaholes also have their own dark and twisty past which comes to play in little snippets, though a majority of this book is about Rory and her boys connecting (literally 😈 and figuratively 😍) while they help her navigate the tricky path of revenge.
I'm absolutely blown away not only by this incredible story but by Scarlets phenomenal writing abilities. It's been quite awhile since I've had a cliff hanger like this where I'm literally SCREAMING 😂
5 sinful sexy savage stars for Thieves and Thorns!!!
A dark witch with an even darker past reclaims her birthrite but unwittingly also claims 3 "men" with souls just as dark as hers. An incubus with secrets and a soft side, a wolf shifter with boundary issues, and an elemental with trust issues. Impossibly these 4 are brought together by a book of dark magic and find themselves unable to walk away from each other. RH with a side of MM, this book is dark and sexy, leaving you wet and wanting more.
What do you do when six years' worth of planning your revenge goes haywire in one night? You let a group of hot mythics take the edge off, of course. A dark witch, Rory, has managed to take back her family's grimoire from a local museum, only to be tracked down by several men who are curious about why she stole it. When they uncover her plot to enact revenge against a group of sadistic vampires, they begrudgingly agree to help her do so. But... she doesn't need or want their help. She can't get rid of them... And she can't fight the pull she feels towards them, but her horrific past won't let her move on.
Scarlet has an incredible talent for lulling readers into a false sense of security. It's all fun and games and "Here. Have a super hot foursome." and "Hey, it's all good. We're using CNC and bondage to heal from trauma." and "Enjoy some heartfelt MLM content." Then, BAM! Last-second plot twist and cliffhanger that will absolutely gut you. I wouldn't change it for a thing. The emotional journey makes the readers really feel the characters' struggles.
I think one issue readers may have is the world-building. It's a fairly short novel, so to fit all the background information in, there are long, drawn-out paragraphs. The info doesn't weave organically into the story, so the readers might struggle with how it sometimes slows the plot down.
With that said, I still rated it four out of five stars. It's just good old-fashioned, dirty, filthy fun. Add in a revenge plot, and sprinkle with a tough-as-nails heroine, and it's the kind of RH every depraved reader will love.
We do have to discuss content warnings. There are mentions of past abuse, including SA. It's not too graphic but keep your triggers in mind before choosing this novel.
Overall, if you're looking for a fairly quick read full of heat, mythical men, plot twists, and a well-deserved revenge plot, look no further. Thieves & Thorns is the way to go.
Holy shit 😂this is the first book in the duology written by Scarlet King and I was lucky enough to get an ARC. let me just say, this was one of the best written fantasy RH I have read . The tension was ON POINT 👀 it started out with Rory taking back something that belonged to her family that was stolen. She wanted revenge from her past so she could live in peace after so long. But of course it’s never that simple! That’s when things get crazy and she meets 3 men that rock her world even though she’s hesitant. Two of the men are there to take the stolen item back but give her 2 weeks to convince them not to turn her or the book in. This is a dark and steamy book. The spicy scenes alone kept me from setting this book down. The MMMF/MMF/MM scenes are literally SO HOT. Usually for me it’s hard to keep up with group scenes in some books because so much is going on but scarlet really took the time it seems to make sure it all made sense and I wasn’t confused at all on what was actually happening 😂🥵everything about this book was amazing. The plot twists and the attached the characters grow is out of this world amazing! I don’t know how I’m going to survive the wait for the next book 😂🖤
Thieves and Thorns is a SUPER SPICY RH about a dark witch with an even darker past, and the 3 men that barrel their way into her home and life. Rory is sassy, fierce and determined to follow through with her revenge plot. Each of the men have their own dark pasts.. Darius is an incubus straight from Hell. Conan and Ezra, lifelong friends, private investigators, an elemental and a shifter.
This is definitely a dark romance with dark themes! Secrets, lies, twists and turns you won’t see coming. RH with MM scenes, dub con and so much more. The praise and degradation are on point! Oh my gosh, the spicy scenes live rent free in mind 🤤🥵
I loved this book! LOVED IT. Fast paced, excellent story, deliciously spicy and a cliffhanger that took me by surprise (I’m dying for the next book!!). Check trigger warnings for sure but I 100% recommend Thieves and Thorns.
This book is the first in a duology, and it did not let down. The level of tension that was in this book was excellent. The amount of spice was great. I cannot wait for the second book! If you like mystical creatures, magic, revenge and reverse harem this is the book for you!
Wow! Dirty and delicious. Super steamy and spicy. I loved it! It starts out with Rory the FMC running for her life. Rory is a witch, and her family spell book has been stolen, so what does she do? She decides to steal it back, it’s technically hers, right? All she wants is her quiet life and her revenge. No one needs to know. Well until 3 hotties show up and inform her she’s busted. The men are there to take the book back, but Rory must convince them to let her keep it. Turns out these “men” can relate to her inner darkness and are drawn to her. It’s a dark, panty melting hot RH with MM. The writing kept me sucked in with all it’s deliciousness. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters, Darius is my favorite ;). That cliffhanger though, I was not prepared!! I can’t wait for more. For her first solo novel Scarlet knocked it out of the park!
This book is the first in a new duology from Scarlet King It follows Rory, a dark witch, who we see escaping her crippling past and abusive ex. She has no one left, all her family dead. The only thing she can do is rebuild her grandmother's cottage and try to live a normal life on Earth. Then she plots her revenge, but she needs a special family heirloom to enact revenge, and to get it she must steal it. This action introduces us to our gloriously addicting men. Darius, Ezra and Conan. Darius is an incubus from Hell escaping his own demons, while Ezra and Conan are sent to investigate Rory. They're all so guarded but drawn to each other. The tension between each individual is perfection. Rory doesn't know how to trust anyone with her heart, Conan is cold and detached, Ezra is trying to understand himself, while Darius wants to break down Rorys walls but he can't seem to break his down as well. There is hot filthy sex between the individuals and the group. The tension in their fights and disagreements just add to the scenes they each act out. This book is not just sex, there is a mission Rory is on and these men want a part of it. There are also sweet and tender moments I did not expect from this group. It also shows the harrowing truth of trauma and dealing with the PTSD that comes with it. Our FMC may be strong but there is also strength in her struggles. I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down, it had me gripped from the start. Be warned this book ends on a cliffhanger! Check your trigger warnings, if your a dark romance reader then give this book a shot! MFMM- Contains MM scenes
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Holy Hell I was not ready for this. Dark fantasy reverse harem full of witches, demons and dark magic. 😈💀🥵 yes please. ***Please please for your sake check your triggers warnings this is not for everyone. If it's not your cup of tea move along..we Welcome to the pages a badass witch, and 3 HOT mythical men that will kill for her. Rory a badass witch who has a troubled past which as made her into the strong women she is now. A sexy force not to be reckoned with. I love the hilarious banter between them a despite their situation. Scarlett really knocked it out of the park. I laughed, cried, got angry, hot🥵 and finally the ending had me on edge. Talk about cliffhanger. Sorry not sorry you will probably throw your book😄 A dark paranormal romance, reverse harem, definitely a favorite genre for me. Absolutely love it.
Wow!! Rory is taking care of her life and gets bombarded by these guys who just make themselves welcome in her life. I was very confused to begin with, but very surprised with how the story goes. The spice level was 🤯🥵 woah. Definitely an adult story, check trigger warnings!
I’m gonna start this review by saying READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THE BOOK FIRST!! I cannot stress that enough!! There is a lot happening in this book that may set off your fun parts as well as blow up mind. So, you’ve been warned.
There is no book dark enough for me and I’m open to just about any kink (I said just about, not all!! 😏) But, if you like RH, graphic, group, dubcon, MM, MMF, CNC, and more, then READ THIS BOOK! Also, we should be friends! 😉😘
Now, for the good stuff!
This is an excellent book, that is well-written, with a strong plot, fully-developed characters, and a carefully crafted fantasy world. There are plenty of books out there that can keep your attention by just throwing sexy fun times at you. But writing one that has all the elements of a great fantasy book while weaving in seriously sexy and sensual scenes without feeling forced or done just for marketing/sales — that is a real talent. This author achieved that beautifully!
If fantasy RH is your jam and you can handle some very dark themes and lots of kink, then I highly recommend this book. EXCELLENT READ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Something I feel happens with a lot of reverse harem books, is that there's barely any time for developing every realtionship with every person besides the main plot, so everything feels a little rushed.
the relationships with one of the guys is always under developed. Like I feel most of the time they suddenly feel so much about her without no depth or barely knowing each other.
The story was good you know, nothing game changing, just entertaining.
✨ARC REVIEW✨ There is just so much good to talk about in this book. First, we love a paranormal romance. The magic system and types in this universe are written differently than I have seen before and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. The sunshine-grumpy ratio in between the characters is exactly right and the book was so well written and compelling that I read it in a single sitting. The cliffhanger hurt my soul a bit but I can’t wait for the resolution🖤
Thieves and Thorns is a dark fantasy romance book with LOTS of spice. It was my first book in this genre and it was a great introduction! King handled the multiple POVs very well and wove them together to tell a story. The spice takes center stage but that's not all there is to the book. It follows Rory (a witch) and her quest for revenge, along with Darius (a demon), Ezra (a shifter), and Conan (an elemental). I also enjoyed Grace as a side character and hope we see more of her in book 2!
Speaking of book 2, I didn't realize this was a duology at first but it became apparent as the book went on. And that cliffhanger!! Can't wait for the next book!
This is a dark book and there are some CWs I think you should be aware of. It's not for everyone and that's okay. The CWs are as follows: graphic sex, dubcon and CNC, mentions of past SA, graphic violence, blood, death, past abuse, trauma, panic attacks, and PTSD
TL;DR: A wonderfully dark, spicy book with a great plot too.
Holy goodness. This book CONSUMED me. I freaking loved Dare, Ez and Cee. I adored how string Rory was - her determination and her spirit, and that ending was just *chefs kiss.
The steam was PERFECT and now I'm left impatiently waiting the next book.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Thieves and Thorns in exchange for an honest review.
5 STARS ✨
Okay, so let's talk about Thieves and Thorns.
Thieves and Thorns is a low fantasy, reverse harem novel that follows Rory, a witch in a world where supernatural creatures are regarded as 'mythics' (I absolutely loved the use of that term) who are, to say the least, treated very poorly by the humans who acknowledge their existence: we start right in the action, where Rory 'steals' a grimoire that is rightfully hers and has belonged in her bloodline in order to enact vengeance on traumatic events from her past.
I need to start off by saying to please ensure that you read the trigger warnings of the start of this book; just because I absolutely loved the read, it does not mean that there isn't heavy content in it, so please make sure that you take care of yourself and keep yourself safe by reading through the trigger warnings before going on this adventure.
Because, that's what this was, an adventure.
Scarlet has the talent to make you feel as if you are going through the story with the main characters: when I finished reading it (completely shaken by that cliffhanger, by the way) it felt as if I had genuinely had experienced the time that the characters had in the pacing of the book, rather than the few hours I spent reading the book, and it does take talent to completely capture someone like that and fully immerse them in the narrative.
This is my first time reading reverse harem; I actually heard of reverse harem through Scarlet's videos so, there is a kind of justice to the fact that the first reverse harem I read was one written by Scarlet. Although I obviously have no prior knowledge of reverse harem, I do think that it was executed incredibly well. I think the thing I loved about this book and why I rated it so highly is that when you get a spicy read, and a lot of main characters, and an intense storyline, you can lose the essence of character development and the plot and the narrative can be completely overwhelmed with spice. With Thieves and Thorns, it had a perfect balance. There was the time to address Rory's trauma, there was the time to learn about Darius, Conan and Ezra because the book contained all four character's perspectives, so you really get the chance to delve into who they are as individuals and how they are together, too.
I'm not going to spoil anything, but they all have very different relationships with each other and it is just perfect, the spice levels are high, they are high, bordering off of the scale high, but they were so. well. written.
I honestly do not have anything negative to say — I loved this. It was just written beautifully, the plot was crafted beautifully and addressed the triggering themes appropriately and authentically. You truly can see how much dedication and work Scarlet has put into it whilst you're reading, and it definitely paid off. You need to give this a go. The second book in the duology, Revenge and Roses, is expected to come out in June 2022 and I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on it.
I have NO WORDS, and yet, I‘m screaming. This book came straight from smut heaven and it fu*king owns me. The characters ins this book? *chef kiss* The smut in this book? *chef kiss* The dirty talk? *chef kiss*
We get an angry witch, Rory (26), who wants to take revenge on her vampire ex, and three hot magical dudes who stumble into her life; an incubus, a wolf shifter and a grumpy elemental. Thanks to the amount of smut, the plot was in the background, but oh boy who needs plot when you get • degradation • praise • dirty talk • MMFM with ⚔️ • group activities • bondage / BDSM • 🍑 • primal kink and • edging
I‘m invested in all characters and I loved their dynamics. There were two things I particularly appreciate: they use LUBE — finally! Thank you Scarlet King! — and they have a serious talk about the polyamory / reverse harem situation. Bonus: almost all characters are queer! No, wait, there is more! Two of the guys are clearly PoC. Darius is described with brown skin and Ezra with dark skin. Love, love, love that!
I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t wait for the sequel!
Only thing I disliked was Ezra’s pet name for Rory, and the constant nicknaming in general. (They all have such short names, no need for abbreviation.)
DNF (did not finish). What made the book unfinishable in your opinion? I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn’t get into it. First, the main character is a witch in a world where it is not a good thing. She’s able to steal a grimoire out of the museum too easily and is saved by one of the love interests. The love interest is a incubus from hell who has nothing better to do then harass the main character. The main character is a terrible worker and only gets away with it because her friend hired her (which made me really dislike the heroine). Then two more love interest show up and are supposed to be bounty hunters, but they decide not to turn her into the humans. I just found too many of the scenes unbelievable given the world context. I lost interest at the 28%. So, I will give this book an average rating.
This started out pretty good but quickly turned into sex scene after sex scene after innuendo after blatant come on. The whole thing and every interaction was just so overly sexual. The hyper sexualization of everything took away from the intimacy between the characters. The little magic we did get was cool though.
The smut in this, holy moly. If you only like a little spice, or no spice at all, don’t read this, because I lost count of the amount of very detailed sex scenes.
Also, read trigger warning! It’s definitely not a book for everyone.
I however, loved the smut. It was well written, detailed and HOT 🥵🥵 I just think there was quite a lot of it for a shorter book, I would’ve loved to have more about the characters and their back stories between these scenes.
I’ve not really gelled with Rory or Conan. But Darius and Ezra 😍
I fucking loved this book. I want to be best friends with Rory, the spice was chef’s kiss, I loved all the men and the tension between them all ✨✨✨✨.
I love Scarlet’s writing and how her characters are so relatable. I saw some of my own pain and struggles in this book and it was so refreshing.
Scarlet just knows how to write a bad bitch and I love that for her I couldn’t be more excited for book 2 and literally anything and everything Scarlet writes. Give me all the books 👏🏼.
Initially, the prologue and first chapter piqued my interest! A witch getting revenge and a motley crew stumbling upon to help? Sounds good 👍. But after Conan and Ezra were introduced, specifically Conan, it lost my interest.
The tension and chemistry that Rory, our witch, had with Darius and Ezra was flutter inducing, the MM scene in the shower was 🥵🔥💕 but then...
We learn that Rory has a hidden, dark desire to be punished/hurt with her pleasure. Hey, to each their own! I just couldn't stomach Conan. I was really put off by his character! I'm a reader who needs some sweetness from a Dom in order to enjoy the trope. But Conan just seems like a bad guy. After his "talk" with Rory, I just didn't want to read this anymore.
