This is a memoir about a woman that came into the world feeling unloved and unwanted at a very early age. Raised by an alcoholic father and a cold ,detached mother, she must make her way in the world based solely on her instincts. A victim of childhood abuse, sexual and physical assault, she learns to accept the unacceptable in order to survive. A major pattern of self-destructive choices begins to emerge. A major portion of her life was spent uncovering, forgiving, resolving that pattern. She still had decades to live before she would recognize what that pattern meant. The intention of writing the bare unadorned truth of her life is to be an example to other women. To reveal to other marginalized women to never give up. Anyone can weather post-traumatic stress and psychological issues if they have the will to live. The will to keep living life no matter what it would generate.

This book is one feisty woman's story of her life over many decades up to the present. I liked the book as she certainly has lived through many unique seasons. The writing is very plain spoken. You can tell there is a teacher hiding somewhere inside her because every new word, concept, place, or thing is carefully explained to the reader like as to a student. Barring this odd way of writing it was still an enjoyable memoir.
This author is inspirational, showing how never giving up can be worth it. She goes through many difficult things in her life, and in this biography, she shows us how she managed to survive the chaos of the world around her, all while dealing her inner chaos as well. Anyone looking for a string of hope to hold on to should read this book.

review by Rev. Taylor Stevens “It is rightly said that only when you fully own your story are you free to write the ending. Mimi Tallo decided to fully own her story. Not only did she decide to own it, she courageously shares it in this beautifully and authentically written book. While Mimi still has much living to do she clearly demonstrates that the ending is now on her terms.
This is not a woe is me missive. It is a heroines tale of pain, abuse, adaptive poor choices, and then ownership and transcendence. Ms. Tallo proves that regardless of past wounding great possibility is always available. She is a brave beacon of boundless potential.
Relentless honesty and unsparing authenticity make this a book about great hopefulness. It lights the way for others to also triumph over.”
