Black Hills Rendezvous #3

Daddy by Surprise

Rate this book
Kat Petroski has a weakness for "swoo." That indescribable charm guys from the wilder side have. Not that falling for it has worked out for her, since she's a twice-divorced mother of two. So she's got an early-warning "swoo" alert. Then Jack Treadwell walks into her life.

Between his motorcycle and his adventure-seeking attitude, Jack has all the trappings she can't resist and should. Still, is that the "real" Jack? Something tells her he may be more dentist than biker. But is he father material? Because "swoo" aside, Kat's a mom first. And the man who wins her heart must first win over her boys.

Black Hills Bad Boy, book three in Debra Salonen's Black Hills Rendesvous series, is another of those warm, comfortable novels that you just feel at home in within the first few pages.
Kat and Jack are an unlikely couple. He's a successful dentist who's always followed the rules until the discovery of his fiancée in a compromising situation makes him question what he wants from life. Jack's bucket list includes buying a shiny new Harley and all the gear to go with it and setting off to explore the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Kat is a struggling single mother of two, both sons the result of her succumbing to the swoo of their respective fathers. She's studying to become a teacher and picking up whatever jobs she can manage to supplement the meagre child support she receives. The very last thing Kat needs or wants is to fall for yet another gorgeous man, but where there's a swoo there's a way.
These two are lively, genuine characters whom I liked from the start. The small country town setting also appeals to me and as I've already read the first two books in the series I felt as though I was catching up with old friends. The plot also had plenty going for it and I found it hard to put the book down. I'm looking forward to Black Hills Bachelor, which is the fourth book in the series.

This was a pretty good read, a tad boring in parts, but otherwise good. I don't have children nor am I several times divorced with children by diff fathers, so it was hard for me to relate to the female lead. However the idea of a sexy guy busting into her life and setting the ex's straight while sweeping her off her feet was cute.

This is the first book I read by Debra Salonen. I stopped reading this book at chapter 4 because the story or characters didn't hold my interest. I found the story boring. I would probably read more books by this author.

This was a sweet story. Jack is trying to reinvent himself, walk on the wild side a bit. Kat is just trying to make ends meet and take care of her two kids and deal with her two exes at the same time. I like how Jack seemed so out of place and yet was trying to be the bad biker dude. Kat and Jack had great chemistry, and were both very likable characters. Jack may have started out trying to prove something, but ended up learning something about himself in the process.

Bought this at a library sale for 50 cents. Read aloud in the car with friends on a road trip. Trip was great, book was bad, but deeply funny. Characters having old west alter egos they keep having connected sex dreams about is obviously the best, most inspired part. Unfortunately, the characters hookup in the main character’s 8 year old son’s bed and it is really messed up to witness.

Debra you have a twisted mind.
