Money. Possessions. School. Work. Life. The things of this world. At times it can all feel empty and meaningless. In Your Life Has Meaning , Luke George Thompson focuses on themes and Bible verses primarily from the book of Ecclesiastes and the life of Solomon to offer you a practical guide to finding meaning in life. Thompson walks you through ideas from thought leaders of the past Neitzsche, Kierkegaard, Camus, Sartre, and others and the voices from the present found in self-help books, fantasy novels, and entertainment to show how they themselves poke holes in the false sources of meaning that so many chase after. As a teacher of apologetics and a pastor who works regularly with college students, Thompson invites you to view the world from God's side of it instead of focusing on life "under the sun." And that's where the true treasure of this book is, as it reminds you that your purpose in life, no matter what your job, is to help others recognize God's love, for this is your "role in an epic story."
An excellent book worthy of repeated reads, Thompson uses the Biblical book of Ecclesiastes to demonstrate that life does have meaning more than just in the here and now, that we are part of an epic, overarching story. This book is written with non- or nominal Christians in mind. Read it and find out your role in the most epic of stories.
So good & so many excellent insights on Ecclesiastes. I will definitely be rereading in the future!
"But this focus on life 'under the Sun' is really an invitation to view the world from God's side of it, from over and beyond the sun. You will find an epic Story of love, warfare, salvation, and heroism; you will find a beginning, a tragic fall, a climax, and a good ending waiting for us; and you will find your own name on those pages, playing out your part."
I feel like I learned a lot! I’ve never thought anything about Ecclesiastes, but now I feel like I can say I have a good grasp of the general concept 😌 great book if you wanna read on Solomon’s discussion of the meaning of life <3
Solid resource for anyone who wants to understand Ecclesiastes or is preparing a Bible study on it. Good illustrations and helpful explanations of the themes in this book!
This was a fairly great book. It most efficiently and thoroughly explained what is the meaning of life? and why do we even bother? I quite enjoyed this book. It's pretty short with only 149 pages however it is loaded with all sorts of correct information. I recommend this book to anyone with similar questions I had. Such as: Why are we here(on earth)? How does our life choices influence eternity? Is there anything else out there after I die?
