An easy-to-read biography of the Mexican-American who led the nation-wide boycott of grapes as part of his movement to organize and help farm laborers in the United States.
This book is about Cesar Chavez, a Mexican American migrant worker who is known for being a Latino American civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (now to United Farmers Workers union). His life story is about standing up for the Latino-American community and fighting for respect and rights. This is a great book for upper elementary school students as a nonfiction and biography genre. There is not a lot of texts about the achievements of Latino-American people, but this is a great start. The biography will help introduce an underrepresented community and brings to light Chavez’s achievements, passions, hark work, and triumphs. While this book is written well, the images are a bit old school.
