Em and Stefano’s story was emotional. I liked a lot how Stefano supported and stood by Em, after the hell she had gone through.
Regardless, Em was such a strong and feisty character! Just like the two other heroines from the previous parts! And the friendship among these three princesses was amazing and solid!
I was so excited when the rat was finally exposed and when Stefano’s manipulative sob father was sent to the hellhole where he absolutely belonged to!
A nice mafia romance read, well paced and developed.

I have read a few books from this author but she continues to blow my mind. This is the third book in the very addictive Mafia Elite series. You can read this book as a stand alone but there are previous characters in this story as well. I was so excited when I got this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I could not put this book down until the end. I’m so excited to see what she will write next.
Stefano Rossi is just waiting for the time when he is on the throne. He hates his father and can’t wait until the day he leaves the earth. Stefano has always loved one woman , the beautiful Emiliana Vitale. He has to keep her a secret due to their family. Stefano finds out there is a rat in the mix and he needs to find out who it is. He doesn’t want to put Emiana into danger but he can’t resist her anymore. He needs her in his life but is it the right time? Will Stefano find out who is betraying them or will it be too late?

Another fabulous book by Amy McKinley. She writes the perfect Mafia stories, good-looking Mob Bosses and gorgeous Mob Princesses. Stefano and Emiliana have been dancing around the issue of their love for each other forever. His father, a mob boss, is evil and a threat to Emiliana, actually a threat to everybody with his viciousness. Stefano's main goal is to keep Emiliana safe and away from his father. The time has come for Stefano to step up and take the crown from his father. But first there's a snitch out there that needs to be found. Lots of intrigue and guessing on who they can trust and who's double-crossing. This is my third book by this author and I am thrilled I found her and plan on reading all of her books.

So, Em we only found out in the previous book that something had happened to Em but in this book we get the full story. This didn’t break her, she fought her way through the experience and Em knew deep down that Stefano would come for her. Em has survived and still has moments where she has to step back...then there are other times that we’ve already seen where Em...well hit first forget the questions.
Em is a fighter and hell of a strong female character, that I love about her...I love all the females within this series. Em is ruthless holding nothing back-even if she is “managing” that a little. But beyond loyalty to her friends and her feelings towards Stefano have grown into something more.
I love the connection that they both share! Both want to protect the other and know what is at stake. It’s intense, steamy and very compelling to read how everything will be revealed...and trust as the secrets are only just beginning.
This series keeps developing with the storyline that pulls you in and leaves you wanting more of each character.
And it’s only just getting started…

Stefano Rossi is the Underboss of the Rossi family, his has been a life of darkness from the start and his father is the main cause of it, however, losing others in his family has had a deep affect as well, but there is one spot of light and that is Emiliana Vitale, but she has her own darkness within that she fights on the daily as well, they would appear to be the perfect match, however, danger is always on the horizon for the two.
The Five Families have found out that there is a rat within their ranks and they have their suspicions, but they don’t have any solid proof, but hopefully that will soon change, Stefano is investigating with the other heads of the Five Families, but he has to play the slow game and when he is with his father, he has to project a cold demeanour where nothing and nobody mean anything to him, it is the only way to keep them safe from harm. Meanwhile Emiliana is slowly recovering from a past trauma which was inflicted by the rat they are all trying to catch, is still affecting her now, but she tries to do a bit more each day to break its hold over her, however, when she is triggered by an event in a supposed safe place, she realises that maybe she isn’t as far forward in her recovery as she hoped. The only shining light is Stefano, he can hold the demons at bay and calm her raging emotions like no one else, but the feelings she has for him are deep, strong and undeniable, but the stolen moments they share aren’t enough any more.
As the danger around Emiliana becomes apparent when she is attacked and Stefano realises that he cannot keep the necessary distance between them any longer and for them to truly be free, his father needs to go and he will target anyone who hurts Emiliana in the process, now they have made the first move it is no holds barred. Emiliana insists that she isn’t the fragile Princess everyone assumes her to be and she demands to be able to be part of the plan to defend herself. Will Stefano and Emiliana be able to remove the obstacles between them and their future together, or will they be torn apart before they can even begin? Oh Stefano is definitely worth reading… this author never fails with any of her books, and also though this one was shorter, it did nothing short of tickle the itch her books can get! Never dissatisfied when she comes across my kindle!

I loved it! It's a Mafia romance, and it contains all of the things that you would want and expect from a Mafia story. Many secrets are revealed, and relationships are uncovered. I think that it is probably best to read all of the books in this series in order. Although I did not do that, I was able to follow the relationships by referring to the list of Mafia families and the names of their family members that the author placed at the beginning of the book. Still, I feel that it would have been better to read the two earlier books in order to follow the characters better.

We come to one of the books I was really looking forward to reading. We’ve had snippets of this couple in previous books, so I eagerly waited for it.
And I can tell you it didn’t disappoint.
Book three has the enigmatic and dangerous Stefano Rossi biding his time….
He’s looking for a rat! Someone put his Emiliana in the firing line, and that just won’t be tolerated!
He’s also next in line for his fathers title, but daddy dearest isn’t going anywhere (in fact he’s a real nasty piece of work, using his children as pawns and shields!) but Stefano can wait, he’s waited for revenge for a very long time (he has a score to settle with dad!)
Emiliana is struggling to return to normal life! Being kidnapped can change a person, and it’s definitely changed her, she’s darker and more focused. She will have her revenge one day!
This couple were just great, they know they can’t or shouldn’t be anywhere near one another, but like magnets, they are drawn to one another time and again. But being anywhere near Stefano isn’t good for her, she could a target!
But when they decide to unite! Then watch out “five families” these two together are a force to be reckoned with!
This one just leaps off the page, grabs you by the throat and won’t let go until the last page is read!
Full of action, twists, betrayal and angst. All the things I’ve come to know and love from this author. Attention to detail, making sure the storyline fits the previous books (which you don’t really need to read, but I did and found it most helpful)
I had an inkling who the rat was, but it was still surprise! And how they were dealt with, it’s mafia justice.
And now we have to wait for book four (and that could be interesting one )🤔 😉

So, after finishing this and having read most of Ms. McKinley’s books now, I have come to the conclusion that she could write the phone book and make it addictive reading! Seriously!!! If you have yet to pick up one of her many books, what are you waiting for? You will kick yourself for missing out this long.
Born in Darkness is another gem in Ms. McKinley’s crown- a stellar mafia romance, it is the third book in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. A masterfully woven romantic suspense story with action, violence, mafia politics, second chances, family dynamics, friendship, chemistry, sizzle, secrets, drama, intrigue, tension, and edge of your seat developments.
This book is Stefano and Emiliana’s story, I was excited to dive in and honestly say Ms. McKinley doesn’t rest on her laurels here, she ups the ante yet again, grabbing me right from the get-go and had me flipping the pages to find out what happens, all while proving once again that this series just gets better and better with each new release.
If you haven’t read the previous two books, I highly recommend that you do, as not only are they fantastic stories in their own rights, they also contain important information that will help you better appreciate this story, as well as building a bigger picture.
I love this series and the wonderfully complex characters that take centre stage here. I have a serious addiction to Ms. McKinley’s stories and need my next fix stat- Book #4 can’t come soon enough and looks set to be brilliant!!!
Take my word for it- if you love mafia romance, romantic suspense, wonderfully developed characters, depth, and addictive reading- then you definitely won’t want to miss this exciting story or series!!!

Book 3 in what is currently a 5 book series. This installment can technically be read on its own but the back information you would have from reading the other books was beneficial to me keeping the information and names straight. This book answers some questions that were left open from the previous books and seems to set up things for book 4. Note, by jumping to book 3 you also get spoiled on the former romances and a little bit on how they came about.
I really enjoyed the building relationship between Emiliana and Stefano. Stefano is the son of one of the five heads of family for the Chicago Italian Mafia, but he is fighting against his father’s tyrannical rule of his life. Emiliana is still recovering from her abduction and being sold into human trafficking. Both have yearned for the other since they were kids, but can they overcome their life situations to finally be together?
I loved that Stefano is able to help Em continue to build herself up after her ordeal, and doesn’t shy away from it or hold it against her. She’s healing but he’s willing to be there as a support system and friend for her. I also enjoyed seeing Stefano standing up for himself and dealing with the ramifications of his father’s actions.
As mentioned, some lingering questions from the other two books are answered here and I enjoyed the mystery aspect of that. We see more tension build up with the Bratva here and I can’t wait to see what comes of that in book 4.
Content warning: suicide, talk of human trafficking and arranged marriages, violence against women, gun violence, death, mafia violence, torture.

I seriously can not get enough of this freaking amazing series. The author writes each one with amazing anticipation and characters as the last book had withheld. I am so lost in every book in this series, and can not get enough, I love this series, and I will tell you that till the cows come home!
This one was just good and amazing as the previous novels! I seriously think this series keeps getting better and better, the suspense and the passion will make me swoon one of these days for sure haha! I fall in love with the characters from each book every time and I can not get enough from what I read!
Honestly each book is different in regards to the story line and the characters. Nothing seems to over lap or repeat itself in the sense of you are amazed and slammed against the wall with the passion with no intentions of ever letting go! For this one I was super excited as Emiliana was getting her story, loved her and she always spoke to me as a character, and after reading this amazing book, I understand why! The danger really intensified in this novel and as well as my thoughts when things happened! I loved this one, think it is my favorite one in the series thus far! Amazing read and do not pass this one up!

My, oh my!! Another thrilling installment in this series. I can’t get enough of these strong, badass mafia women. They are strong, funny, brave, loyal the families, powerful, and especially connected to each other,
Emiliana has been through hell and back. Targeted even as a child, Emiliana has had to watch her back. When she was taken by a human trafficking network and held for months, Emiliana clung to what she knew would keep her strong. Her love for Stefano is some of her earliest memories. The stolen kisses, hidden touches, lingering looks were the images that played through her mind during the roughest parts of her captivity.
Stefano is the only remaining child of a cruel man. Stefano’s father used his children like pawns in business and it cost two the lives of two of them. Stefano has faced abuse and torture at the hands of his father since he can remember. Stefano has fought against showing his feelings for Emiliana knowing that his father would stop at nothing to use her against him.
Now as the families search for the mole in their organizations, Stefano is planning a way out from under his father. Can Stefano keep Emiliana safe from his father and his long reach while routing out the mole? Will all Stefano’s plans to build a more positive and stable family be toppled by his father or the mole?
The action and steam keep the pages flipping. There are so many twists and turns in this story. The pages flew by and I was sad when it was over. I can’t wait for Book 4!!

OH EM GEE!! Born in Darkness was the perfect book 3 in Mafia Elite Series. I love Emiliana and Stefano’s story, I love their character development too, especially when together.
Emiliana is the one he can’t have, for her own safety, but she’s the only 1 Stefano wants. Someone’s after Emiliana the question is who? On top of all that they are trying to flush a rat out of the organization, that’s giving away valuable information to the wrong people.

Born in Darkness was everything I love in mafia romance. This is book three in the Mafia Elite Series and I easily read it as a standalone but I enjoyed the writing so much, I will be going back and reading the first two books.
Stefano Rossi is destined to be king. As a mafia underboss, he is not so patiently waiting for his evil and hateful father to get out of his way even if he has to move him himself. As the next “king", he desperately wants Emiliana Vitale (I love her name!) to be his “queen “. Both of them are tired of waiting and only sharing stolen kisses every now and then but if his dad finds out his intentions, it puts her in serious danger. Her life has already been put in danger due to a set-up by a rat within the Five Families. After being viciously attacked, she has been fighting tooth and nail to get securely back on her feet. One effect of the attack is a darkness that now lives within her that matches the darkness within Stefano. They are becoming a powerful, badass, and protective duo willing to draw blood to protect each other and make the future they both desire a reality.
I loved these two individually and as a couple. The action, twists, angst and heat kept me perched on the edge of my seat until the very end. Amy McKinley has definitely made a fan out of me with this book. I highly recommend this to all mafia lovers out there. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

I’m literally speechless. I don’t even know where to begin with my review for this wonderfully written story. I’ve been a fan of this author since the very first book I read of hers. The Mafia Elite series centres around the Italian-American Mafia, in particular the young adults who are coming of age and finding their place in their dangerous but glamorous world. There are power struggles, deception and plenty of action!
Born in Darkness focuses on Emiliana and Stefano, who we’ve gotten to know in earlier books. Emiliana is great – she’s a keen cook and strong fighter, particularly when using knives. She’s still haunted by past traumas, but with her brother’s help has channelled this into training so she can defend herself. She does, however, continue to experience PTSD, particularly as it becomes clear that she’s still not entirely safe.
This is a real page-turner, with readers being given enough clues to try and figure out for ourselves who might be leaking information to those trying to harm Emiliana and her friends. There’s never a dull moment! And it’s fun catching up with the couples we’ve gotten to know in earlier books – Max and Lil, and Enzo and Sofia.
This is another five-star read for me! I would definitely advise readers to start at the beginning of the series, with No Way Out. I’d recommend it to fans of action-packed romance!

As the year comes to an end, I am once again astounded by the talent that this author has for writing. Like the previous two books in the series, as well as many of her other works, the book was quick to draw me in, especially since I’ve enjoyed the other two books immensely and couldn’t wait for the story to continue, even if it was focused on yet another new pair of characters, much like her other stories. This book, like many others, can be read as a standalone novel, but there are references to previous books in the series that make more sense if you have read them as well.
Stefano and Emiliana have fate against them in this continuation of the addictive Mafia Elite story. Much like Romeo and Juliet, they are forbidden to love one another, but in this modern ‘re-telling’ of the story, the situation is much more complex. The Five Families have discovered a rat in their midst, so whilst trying to hide their love from her father, Stefano is doing everything in his power to protect Emiliana and figure out who is causing trouble in Chicago. The connection between the two, the guessing on who may be the snitch and the overall anticipation of what will become of the forbidden couple made the book impossible to put down. Needless to say, I am beyond thrilled that there is another book in the series, and plan to read it as soon as I am able to!

This installment brings us the development between Emiliana Vitale and Stefano Rossi. If you have read the previous novels, you will have some more information on them and the others that we have read about so far, and I really enjoy feeling as though we have already gotten to know a bit about these characters before delving deeper into their love story. Poor Em suffers from PTSD from her abduction a few years prior, where our knight in shining armor came to carry her right out of hell. Stefano has had to deal with his own ‘darkness’ being the son of Frank, devil incarnate, and has struggled with keeping his distance from Em only to keep her safe. I for one, was swept off my feet by their love story.
I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this new installment to this series. I have had my sleuth hat on from the very first novel, and I was very much looking forward to knowing whether I was right in my assumptions. I absolutely adore the way this author reels you in, and feeds you information, but with the twists and turns, and introductions of new characters, doubt creeps in. This is the third book in this authors mafia series. If you haven't read the others yet, just know that this book has so many twists and turns that you need to hang onto something while reading it. I feel like I was given whiplash by how quickly things were unraveling and the twists that the book takes you on. Just when you think you have an idea as to where the author is taking you, BAM, there is a twists that throws down another path. You feel like you need to bite your nails while reading this. It's a who did what to who and who was responsible for what. Then there is the steamy slow build burn of childhood love turned into grown up love. Opposing factors kept them apart but what if those factors no longer existed? Would they end up together? These are questions that you will be asking while reading this book. After all the twists and turns having you feeling like you just road a roller coaster, you will be left with a very settled feeling. This book not only gives you love, steam, thrills, suspense, and is a complete page turner; it makes you want the next book to see how things are going to work out. This is a must read and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves slow burns and/or mafia romance.

As the third book in the mafia elite series this one quickly became a favorite. It's action packed right from the start and there are so many twists and turns that when you figure everything out you'll be as shell shocked as the characters are! While these all could be stand alone books following along with the characters through each one builds upon the storyline and allows you to understand the events happening and why they are happening. Plus each book has been amazing and I'm already anxiously awaiting the next one.

This is the first book that I have read by Amy McKinley, and it was a interesting, different twist on the whole mafia romance. Born In Darkness is book three in the Mafia Elite Series but is a stand-alone read. I do think it would have been an easier read if I had read the first two books in the series but just to keep up with the names of the Five Families in Chicago. This is a great story with a few words that are repeated more times than not. The writing, plot and style of McKinley is top notch. There is a HEA for some of the characters, but the story leaves off trailing into book four, Savage Secrets. 5-stars for Born into Darkness by Amy McKinley.

This is the third book in this series which is just as awesome as the previous two books. I highly suggest reading the previous two books to help your enhancement of this series. This is an author that I never hesitate to pick up. Her books are well written and her attention to details just makes her stories pop. This book is no different. I was pulled into the story by the characters from the beginning. They are connectable and keep the story engaging. This is a faster paced story that is full of action and romance. Stefano has a destiny of being kind. He is biding his time just waiting for that to happen, not only is he waiting for that but also for the woman he loves to be by his side. Emiliana fell in love with the one man who is off limits to her. As their relationship grows so do the enemies. How far will he go to keep her safe and at his side? I loved their growth and chemistry throughout the story. They truly made the story fun and entertaining to read. I also loved the growth of the plot that kept me wanting to know more. This is a must read and I highly recommend it.

I continue to be blown away by the creative genius that goes into a story such as this. To have a vast and endless imagination is quite unfathomable. To assemble a cast of dangerous, mysterious, multi faceted characters is no easy feat. The stories just keep getting better, with each one bringing something new and exciting with each instalment. Every character invokes different impressions and feelings. Nothing is predictable. Everything is changing constantly. Stefano and Emiliana's journey was fraught with danger, tension, uncertainty. One thing that was apparent from the beginning was their deep feelings for one another. With everything seemingly against them, they must fight with everything that they had to make it. Both possessed incredible inner strength, and together they formed something impenetrable. Secrets were needed to keep them safe and scheming to keep the enemy at bay, The love connection that existed between Stefano and Emiliana was moving and mesmirising. Packed with so much edge of the seat activity, this story is breath stealing perfection. I could not have hoped for more. 5 stars.

This is book three in the series and I loved it. I was excited to get Stefano and Emiliana’s story.
Stefano’s dad is a mob boss and monster, plain and simple and the life that Stefano has had to live is heartbreaking. For years he has tried to hide his feelings for Emiliana for fear that his father would try to use her against him.
Emiliana has had a traumatic experience that has left her with nightmares. There is only one person that makes her feel safe and also has her heart, Stefano. I will say that Emiliana is a very strong and determined woman, she has the desire to fight and protect herself.
Things take a scary twist and Emiliana ends up in Stefano’s care. Will he be able to protect her from danger? And what will happen when her brother finds out about their relationship?
Overall I really enjoyed this book . All of the characters added a great element to the family. It was great seeing some from earlier books, like one big family. Loved the ladies. We get some steamy moments, thrilling, scary and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing and I can’t wait to read more from her and the series. 1-click and get started today.

I absolutely loved this story. To me this was the perfect mafia romance. I sometimes struggle when the heroine is kidnapped and abused by the hero then falls in love with him. That’s is definitely not the case in this book. Stefano and Emiliana have been in love since they were kids. They kept their feelings hidden except for a few stolen kisses and longing looks because they are from different mafia families and Stefano’s father was pure evil and threatens to harm her to keep his son in line.
There is a lot going on with this story with Stefano and the other Mafia heads trying to flush out a traitor and oust Stefano’s father as head of the Rossi family. But to me all of that became background to the beautiful story of these two soulmates and their chance at finally being together. I mean seriously, who would not swoon with how Stefano is always there to protect Emiliana and how he will do anything to make her happy. ‘Sigh’.
This is one of the best love stories that I have read in the last month and it had enough action to keep me totally engrossed. I can’t urge you enough to read this book.
There is a lot going on with this story with Stefano and the other Mafia heads trying to flush out a traitor and oust Stefano’s father as head of the Rossi family. If you believe sleep is over rated and you don't mind not getting any then this is the book for you because once you start you won't want to put it down. I know I didn't!! It is a 5 star book from start to finish which is something I have come to expect from this amazing author and in particular this series. I was on the edge of my seat from the first word and stayed there right until the end. She takes us into the Mafia world and shows us the dark side of the life but also such depth of feelings and emotions shared by the characters especially Stefano and Emiliana. I LOVE the strength and connection they have. I also LOVE the badass female characters she writes.
While you can read just this book on it's own, you really don't want to miss the grounding the previous books will give you into the storylines that thread through this series. I couldn't wait to see if a few suspicions I had after reading the previous 2 books were true and while I won't say if they were or not , no spoilers here, I will say please give me more!!!

Emiliana is a victim of Stefano's vindictive, mafia boss, dad. However, she doesn't let it define who she is. She might seem like she's fragile, but she is far from it! I loved her inner strength to overcome the trauma and become a force to be reckoned with. Stefano is also a strong character. He had to deal with so much loss in his life that it turned him into a fierce protector. And Emiliana is his to protect until the end. He is determined that he will do anything, even take down his own dad, to keep her safe. But can he do it before his dad causes more damage? Can he ferret out the rat before all is lost?

Born in Darkness is the third book in the Mafia Elite series and oh my goodness, so much happens and so many questions I had were answered. I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the next book comes out.
This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites and I will actively look for her books so I don't miss one of her amazing suspenseful books.
Emiliana and Stefano were burning it up with the tension between them and man was it worth the wait, well at least for me. There is just so much that happens that I can't get into too much for fear it will give something away accidentally and I will not ruin this great book for someone
Em, Lil and Sofia are women you would not to make mad and I love. I love all of these amazingly strong women who are not afraid to get their hand dirty but will also let their men take control when necessary.
I cannot recommend this book enough. Please just trust me
