I almost didn't read this because I'm not a witch, but I'm glad that I did. There's plenty of (non-witchy) solid information about crystal care, correspondences, healing, grids etc. There's also information about connecting with your crystals and the color rays that I haven't seen in other books. Plenty for witches to engage with too such as sigils and spellwork, but this content doesn't dominate the text and the book is easily approached in a "take what you need and leave the rest" sort of fashion. An excellent metaphysical resource for crystal lovers and crystal healers of any type. Glad I picked it up.

There are countless guides to crystal magic, but few manage to achieve what Crystal Magic for the Modern Witch accomplishes—melding technical knowledge with a practitioner’s insight into the subtleties of the mineral kingdom. This book is a testament to Devin Hunter’s nearly thirty years of working with crystals, presenting more than a hundred varieties in a way that feels both thorough and refreshing. It’s not simply a collection of correspondences but a cohesive system that elevates the practice of crystal magic beyond the basics, providing a deeply practical and richly visual experience for readers.

Hunter’s presentation of the crystals is sophisticated, offering far more than a rundown of properties. He delves into the nuances of each stone, describing their physical, mental, and spiritual benefits while linking them to elemental, astrological, and tarot correspondences. This allows readers to approach each crystal from multiple angles, understanding how its energy intersects with various magical systems. For instance, his treatment of clear quartz extends beyond its well-known function as an amplifier—he explores its capacity to attune the practitioner’s will, acting as a dynamic tool for focusing intention and deepening psychic clarity.

One of the highlights of the book is its emphasis on integrating crystals into a broader esoteric framework. Hunter weaves together correspondences that include planets, plants, and even tarot archetypes, offering practitioners a chance to see how these stones interact with other magical disciplines. His section on using crystals in conjunction with the Major Arcana of the tarot is particularly compelling, showing how stones can be paired with specific cards to enhance their divinatory and transformational power. This approach transforms what could have been a dry compendium into a vibrant manual for creating a truly interconnected practice.

Practicality is at the heart of Crystal Magic for the Modern Witch. The spells and recipes included are designed for real-world use, addressing a range of needs from prosperity to protection, well-being to psychic enhancement. One memorable ritual, the Serpent’s Circle, uses serpentine to invoke deep personal transformation, revealing Hunter’s skill in crafting workings that are both symbolically rich and energetically potent. These aren’t just rituals to be performed mindlessly; they are immersive experiences meant to shift the practitioner’s internal and external landscapes.

The book’s layout is as meticulously crafted as its content. Nearly two hundred color photos accompany the text, making the book as visually engaging as it is informative. The images do more than illustrate—they serve as visual focal points that deepen the reader’s connection to each stone, helping to convey the energetic signature of each crystal. The inclusion of grids, layouts, and crystal spreads also provides concrete guidance on how to apply the information, ensuring that readers have everything they need to integrate the knowledge into their own spellcraft.

What truly stands out is Hunter’s respect for the mineral spirits and his nuanced approach to forming relationships with them. His method goes beyond rote memorization of attributes—he teaches practitioners to listen, communicate, and work collaboratively with the stones. Whether through meditative techniques, crystal spirit invocation, or crafting grids designed to amplify specific energies, Hunter’s work emphasizes that crystal magic is not about simply using stones but about forming partnerships that enhance the efficacy of one’s magical practice.

Crystal Magic for the Modern Witch goes further than offering a static list of attributes—it’s an invitation to explore, experiment, and create. Devin Hunter’s knowledge is paired with a modern sensibility that respects both the traditional uses of these stones and their evolving role in contemporary witchcraft. For those looking to refine their practice and build a deeper, more intuitive relationship with crystals, this book offers an expansive yet grounded guide to working with the mineral world.

Devin Hunter’s Crystal Magic for the Modern Witch is more than just a reference guide—it’s a complete hands-on toolkit for working with crystals in a meaningful way. I’ve read a lot of crystal books over the years, but this one goes beyond listing basic correspondences. Each entry feels like you’re getting to know the personality of the stone, with thoughtful insights and practical suggestions that actually make you want to pick up the crystals and start working magic with them right away. What I love most is the care Hunter takes in pairing each crystal with unique associations—things like tarot cards, plants, and even specific affirmations. It’s these extra layers that make this book feel alive and rooted in personal practice.

The gorgeous photography throughout really adds to the experience, and I found myself constantly flipping back just to admire the images. But don’t let the beauty fool you—this book isn’t just eye candy. The spells, cleansing methods, and divination techniques are genuinely solid and easy to adapt, no matter where you are in your crystal journey. With over a hundred varieties covered, it’s perfect for beginners wanting to dip their toes in, but it’s also deep enough that I could see more seasoned witches getting a lot out of it too. If you want a crystal book that actually makes you feel excited to work your magic instead of just setting it on a shelf, Crystal Magic for the Modern Witch is the one you need.

With most crystal books, you get the basics, where the crystals come from, and their spiritual properties. Devin Hunter expands on that, adding meditations and elixirs you can do to really maximize the crystals' potential in your practice. Even including how shapes, form and structure of the crystal can affect its vibrations. The book is gorgeous with full color pages that anyone would enjoy looking at.
