A day in the life of an awesomely sweet kitten that counts its gifts throughout the day exemplifies the joy & compassion that one experiences. The illustrations are very expressive that the kiddies are sure to relish. The text backed with picturesque graphics is a whole package. The animated images are eye-catchy & it makes for a page-turner read for them. The book oozes zeal & all moms would adore reading this to their babies. The book imparts optimism by pushing the children to treasure the small somethings they acquire every day. The rhyming text is fun.
Parents beware!! Your child may try & demand a lovely cat once they see this!! (lol)
I want to thank Booktasters, the publisher, the author & the illustrator for providing me with an e-ARC. I relished reading it.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings is a cute little book about a little kitten that decides to count the happy incidents in her day. She starts with the sun shining and ends with the little boy who cuddles with her after he comes from school.
The book deals with two topics at once. One is numbers. The other is positive thinking- embracing the minor yet happy events of the day and being grateful to have so many things that make us smile and laugh.
The illustrations are cheerful and full of life. I love how cute and cuddly the kitty looks on each page. The narration sort of rhymes at times, but don’t focus on it.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and BooksGoSocial and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was told as a kid we should count our blessings but never in a religious sense. Now blessing is used in this book and the author in her blurb talks about her spirituality. But blessing is not really used spiritually in the book. It's more about finding the bright side of life. It rhymes, but I don't think that's really needed.
Illustrations are great. Many schools won't probably use this which is a shame. 3.5 stars
My daughter is starting to ask questions about God, and my husband and I have been trying to teach her to find happiness around her rather than in having someone buy her something. This book was the perfect combination of both of those things.
My son enjoyed the counting and this book helped spark conversations around what is a blessing, appreciating what you already have, and why we can't get a cat (we both are very allergic). Very cute story!
Thank you to the publishers for providing a free copy via NetGalley!
Kitty begins her day by waking up and going about her daily routine. She decides to count her blessings today, while she ponders how many blessings she will receive. As the day progresses, Kitty is alternatively excited and dismayed by events as circumstances foil some of her plans.
Kitty Counts Her Blesses by Kat E. Erikson fittingly shows how certain things that seem one way may actually be another as Kitty learns to count her blessings. The story has valuable lessons for children, particularly those who view everything in either black or white. In addition, while Kitty is counting her blessings, children will learn how to count.
The sweet illustrations by Roksolana Panchyshyn will thrill young children. The kitten is loveable and cute. Kitty's owner is nice, engaging and appealing, and the other animals in the story are charming.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings is aimed at children ages three to seven, but I believe it will also appeal to children of a younger age as well.
I received an advance review copy of Kitty Counts Her Blessings for free from BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
In our home there is no such thing as a picture book that goes unread. And this one is no exception.
Everyday should be filled with a minimum of one blessing, and Kitty Counts Her Blessings is an absolute treasure.
Not only is it a great introduction to counting, but it is a wonderful way to begin building a foundation of an attitude of gratitude.
My child was six (at the time of writing this) and reading beyond his age group, but he still was talking about how Kitty took her frustration at the storm and realized that there are still blessings even in the rough moments.
The best part is that with KindleUnlimited, he will be able to read it whenever he wants. Over and over again.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings is the second children's book I have read by Kat E. Erikson. This story is written for children between the ages of 4-7, but I think younger children would also enjoy this short story.
Kitty wakes up and is excited about her day. She starts counting her blessings as she goes through her day. She is having a wonderful time until it starts raining! Kitty quickly runs into the house as her mood and attitude turn downward.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings has a great message to children about counting our blessings. Sometimes the rain comes, and it makes it a little harder to count our blessings. This book was well edited and flowed smoothly.
From the beautifully designed cover to the illustrations inside, Roksolana Panchyshyn designed a book that will draw children in again and again. They will adore Kitty, her expressive facial features, and following her antics throughout the story.
I highly recommend this story for anyone with preschool-age children, especially those who love animals (and need a little reminder to count their blessings!). This book was well edited and flowed smoothly.
Thank you to the publisher and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One way of connecting with God and others is having a heart of gratitude. It is a learned virtue that gives spiritual blessing and joy. Kitty starts her day counting her blessing and goes to finding blessing that she finds difficult to find. This is a great conversation to have with your kiddos. A heart of gratitude is spiritual well being and maturity. It is so important not only for our children but for us as well. It is contagious so go catch you some gratitude with this delightful book.
A special thank you to Books Go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
“Kitty Counts Her Blessings” is a beautiful children’s book that teaches children to focus on their blessings in every situation. The book is listed for children ages 3 – 7, but I think it is relevant from newborn to age 7. Children often learn to count long before the age of 3 and they absorb the positive or negative in their environment from birth.
The book uses counting and rhyming in a fun way. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, fun, and cuddly. It reminds me of a cheerful nursery environment.
I appreciate how the author focuses on blessings, even when we want to complain about what we want but don’t have. This teaches children to look for and appreciate the blessings they have in every situation.
I realize that the author has a spiritual base, and I appreciate that. However, she has written the book so that a family can ‘count their blessings’ with or without such a spiritual base, thus giving the child a positive focus in life regardless of their family’s religious beliefs. A positive attitude, in my opinion, is an important foundation to give a child from day one of life. Life isn’t always perfect, but the ability to focus on the positive in each situation, helps the child to deal with life’s ups and downs. Additionally, if a child sees their parents and caregivers express positive attitudes, it nurtures the child and gives them the security that they will be safe, regardless of the circumstances.
I received this advanced reader’s copy for free from Book Sirens and the author. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings is an adorable book which takes a positive spiritual concept-- finding the good in life ("blessings") and focusing on the positive to help balance the negative and cheer a bad mood --then turns that concept into something accessible to everyone regardless of their personal beliefs. In fact, other than the blurb about the author which mentions her deep spirituality and the general connotations of the word "blessings," nothing religious is mentioned in this book. I personally appreciate that because it allows this book to positively impact a wider audience.
The first thing I noticed about this book was also what drew me to it: the absolutely gorgeous art style.
It's vibrant and cutesy - a little bit modern and a little bit classic. Just looking at the pictures made me smile and I spent quite a bit of time on each page, taking in the details of each scene and appreciating the art. (The screenshot above is just one of the back matter pages for exemplary purposes. In the actual story pages, there are often full scenes with many details interspersed with pages laid out similarly to the back matter.) This is very much the kind of art which both the child and adult can appreciate during storytime.
Written in a rhyme scheme which breaks only for Kitty's lists of blessings, this book tells the story of a cat who begins the day appreciating all the good things in her life but forgets to be appreciative when a rain storm ruins the day. Through the story, she's reminded to keep "counting her blessings" and find ways to make the best of the rainy day by focusing on the positives instead of moping around.
It's a good message in general, completely lacking the usual toxicity that surrounds the notion of counting blessings. This isn't about ignoring the bad or partaking in delusional positivity. Instead, it's about hope and happiness. Teaching children to not to dwell too much on disappointment is a noble cause, as is teaching them to stop and appreciate the good things in the world around them. Doing so through an adorable kitty also helps to make it not seem preachy, since there's a level of removal from humans and it can be taken as literally or metaphorically as the reader prefers.
Overall, I like this book. I think the rhyme scheme is a bit... much at times, though. Sometimes, the wording choices are a little odd, made more with the rhyme in mind than what would sound natural. Nothing is hard to understand for an adult and I doubt it would be hard for a child, but I definitely would have preferred either a bit looser of a rhyme scheme or none at all.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley, but this review is my honest opinion which is being provided voluntarily. I also rented and read this on Kindle Unlimited for purposes of comparing the reading experience... and because I feel this book is good enough to help provide the author with income by renting it.
Kitty Counts Her Blessings is a sweet book that teaches the young reader to see that the small things in life that we experience are special little gifts. This is a wonderful book that little ones will enjoy and learn to see all the wonderful blessings we are given in our life and that even in situations that seem challenging blessings can still be found. Kat E. Erikson used perfectly selected simple language that young children can read and understand, good usage of rhyme scheme to help the child predict what would come next, and an interesting plotline that helps the reader go on a little journey with Kitty.
The illustrator, Roksolana Panchyshyn, captured the story beautifully with her beautiful use of color and design. Panchyshyn captured the joy and sadness of the tale. The pairing of the author and the illustrator was a perfect match.
From a Christian perspective, I would have liked to see a mention of God or Jesus, because without this missing important component the book is more spiritual than Christian faith-based, since the Giver of blessings is absent from the text. Nonetheless, it can be understood that conversation with your child can be sparked through the reading of this book, however, since it is marketed as a Christian fiction I have removed one star. Otherwise, it is a winner!

What at first appears to be a counting book, is so much more. Not only can you teach counting with it, but Kitty Counts Her Blessings, teaches a child to look for all the blessings in life. At the same time, it also reminds the adult who is reading this lovely book, to look for the blessings throughout the day even when it feels like there isn't any.
I have absolutely fell in love with this adorable book!! The whole theme makes you happy and want to smile, and the illustrations are just beautiful! What child would not want to snuggle with you while you read this sweet book to them?! And because this book is so adorable, you will love reading it to your child.
A must for any parent who wants to not only teach their child how to count, but, also, to teach a child to look for the wonderful things in the world - their blessings!
I received a copy of this book through BookSirens. I was not required to post a positive review - but one of my honest opinion.
3.5 stars. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! They're so bright and colorful and fanciful! I lingered over them for quite a while and really enjoyed all the detail. I'm sure young kids will really appreciate and engage with them.
The story is told in rhyme, and there are places where the word choices and rhythm are sacrificed to the rhyming structure. That said, the message is sweet and there are lots of lively sounds that kids will enjoy imitating. Because of the "blessing" term, I probably wouldn't use this at my public schools, but I'm sure it would be enjoyed in personal and community libraries. I would have liked having it on the bookshelf in my Sunday school classroom or church nursery too!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Thank you so much to Booktasters and the author for sending me this copy!
This was a quick, easy, and super sweet read. We follow Kitty through her day while she is counting her blessings. This is a picture book and it is filled with gorgeous illustrations that are very vivid and colorful. They will for sure capture the attention of children and adults.
Do you know what's the best thing a kid's book can do? It's when the book RHYMES! It adds a layer of sweetness to the amazing story that every child can enjoy and learn a lot from!
The cover was love at first sight for my 3.5-year-old!
My daughter loves cats and the cover is so colourful, that once she had a look at the cover page, she went absolutely crazy! The message of this book is very positive, but I could do without the rhymes at some parts. It helps with learning numbers, in finding the bright side of every situation and appreciating your life.
Many thanks for NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this Advance Reading Copy.
The precious little kitty that likes to count her blessings meets with the destruction of her fun when a storm passes by, then she discovers that there can be fun (and blessings) even in apparently bad days. This book, in a charming way, with lovely illustrations, teaches a valuable lesson to children about the realities of life. Not all days will be sunny days, but a good attitude will make all the difference! Excellent. Highly recommended.
When I started reading this beautiful and colourful children's book, I was thinking: perhaps we all should count our blessings more often. So, it contains a lesson for us all. I liked the way the book and the story was built and the pictures really were amazing!
I would recommend this book to parents who like to read for their children. Together with the amazing paintings, I give without any doubt a 5 star rating for this book!
This was a cute and quick little kids book. I would say around ages 0-4 would probably enjoy it. I read it to a little one and they liked the pictures a lot. The colors were bright and inviting, it taught some counting and most of all that even when things aren’t perfect there are blessings all around.
I like this book! It teaches children how to observe and be grateful for the sensory details of their life.
I personally don’t like cats or the word “blessings,” so there are some things I would change about the book, but it is well-written and well-illustrated.

In a nutshell as the title would suggest, it's a counting book. But what adds to the beauty of the book is the theme. It's very positive with vibrant illustrations. The way it's shown that the blessings continue even after it's start raining, shows through the kitty that we should always have a positive thinking which is an excellent moral for children. Overall a good read for the kids.
Received from a free site, very cute. The only thing I didn't like was the kitty running loose for the day, very dangerous around here. Roaming cats are not safe. But, hey, its fiction.
Kitty is pussycat who knows that she's blessed and spends her day counting her blessings and being grateful that she's so blessed..
Kitty Counts Her Blessings was a delight and a blessing. Counting has been taught in many ways in households and classrooms. You learn to count fingers, toes, blocks, balls or any object the creative teacher incorporates into his/her theme of the week.
When I was little, the game/song I was taught to play was, 1-2 buckle my shoe, 3-4 shut the door, 5-6 pock up sticks, 7-8 lay them straight, 9-10 a big fat hen! (Poor hen, that was my favorite part too). Funnily enough, as a Christian, I never thought about using blessings. This adds a spiritual aspect to something as simple as learning to count and begins a life lesson pattern that can only grow as they do.
Here's a little rhyme I wrote in response to the book:
This charming, rhyming counting book with pictures so bright they're such a delight
It shows the love between a cat and her boy who feel blessed together and count it all joy.
What a nifty idea this author did share a lesson on counting and gratitude with good cheer
So what pray tell did I rate this book? why 5 stars of course with a can't-you-tell look
